The Jurnal Kajian Bali (Journal of Bali Studies) is an area study journal that specializes in publishing research-based articles about Bali. The topics of articles about Bali that can be published are very diverse including Balinese culture, politics, music, language, architecture, literature, history, mass media, popular culture, tourism, economy, environment, health, law, management, religion, and Balinese customs. The journal would also like to publish articles on Bali with comparative approaches. The Jurnal Kajian Bali (Journal of Bali Studies) is published twice a year, every April and October. Published articles are reviewed in a single blinded manner. The Jurnal Kajian Bali (Journal of Bali Studies) was first published in April 2011 by the Center for Balinese Studies, University of Udayana. Starting from April 2019, the journal is published jointly by the Center for Balinese Studies and the Center of Excellence in Tourism, University of Udayana. However, starting April 2020, the Jurnal Kajian Bali (Journal of Bali Studies) was published by the Center for Cultural Research and the Center of Excellence in Tourism, University of Udayana. This change occurred because of the reorganization of research centers at Udayana University from the end of 2019.

Abstract

This article aims to determine the socio-space segregation between newcomers and natives having the same genealogy in Denpasar, Bali. The study was focused on three aspects: determining the factors that influence the occurrence of socio-space segregation; the factors that most influence the shape of such interactions; and its influence on the spatial. The approach taken was descriptive qualitative, through verification at Housing Complex Padang Galeria, West Denpasar. The final result was: bigotry against region of origin, both the migrants and natives became the forerunner to the segregation of socio-space; the most influential factors for the socio-space segregation was customary (pakraman) village institution itself that binds its members in a teritorial unity, spiritual and member togetherness; socio-space segregation phenomena were abstract when transformed into mental maps will show multinodes in the sub-villages in the region of pakraman village.

Abstract

This article tries to assert the focus of discussion on the function of temples in Bali that shifts to sociological and political functions. The external pressure sociological and political dimensions are assumed to be able to shift or to complete the function of the temple as a place of worship for Hindus in Bali. The sociological function of temple is as a means of reunion for Hindus who live far from their family and the political function is the temple can be used as a place to hold political meetings by political leaders who will participate in local elections. Can the temple functions be shifted? Six informants who are considered being the most competent to answer this question stated “not” because it is due to a political meeting included giving donation for the temple maintenance and helping to finance such a big scale ceremony of Hindus in Bali.

Abstract

Wayang is the traditional performing arts whose the story contains many moral teachings, ethics, and mrality. Shows (art of pakeliran) screen puppet, not only as spectacle but also as a guide. This article analyzes the transfomation of the Hindu leadership values throught at pakeliran. The purpose of the study is to increase the appreciation of literature, namely preserving and developing traditional works especially oral literature play shadow puppets Bali especially about Hinduism leadership values. Methods of analysis using cultural study approach with descriptive analytic method. The theory used to analyze is the deconstruction theory, and the theory of Critical Education. Conclusions from this research is the transfomation of value not only carried out on formal education (schooling) but also through education can no scholling through art of pakeliran.
