Abstract

The major distinctive feature of the Islamic banking as compared to the conventional one lies on the pricing mechanism. The ‘new’ system applies variable pricing mechanism, as reflected on the Profit and Loss Sharing (PLS) system, meanwhile the ‘old’ system applies fixed pricing mechanism, as reflected on the Interest Based (IB) system. Several implications arise from this very basic difference. This paper discusses the implementation of Islamic banking, its socio-economic effect and its role in the development. As a new type of banking system, Islamic banking attracts serious attention from the business players and regulatory authority as well, around the world. The discussion in this paper includes comparison be¬tween these two systems on several instances; the socio-economic effect of the implementa¬tion of Islamic banking; and its role on the (economic) development. In addition the paper also prescribes the direction and the policy required for developing Islamic bank. Keywords: Islamic banking, Profit and Loss Sharing, community welfare

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and identify the impact of change in tourist expenditure towards the household incomes. The data used in this study was secondary one, especially from the Sistem Neraca Sosial Ekonomi (SNSE) Table of Indonesia in 1999 and from tourist expenditure data. The problems appeared in this study were analyzed by using Structural Path Analysis (SPA).The results of the study show that the change in tourist expenditure in Indonesia, most influence the upper household class in urban area in 1999. The change in tourist expenditure most influence non-farm household. Since higher proportion of tourist expenditure is spent to buy non-agriculture products. The urban household receives the influence of change in tourist expenditure more than the rural household. Thus, it is suggested that the government should put emphasis in developing rural tourism by promoting tourism based on agriculture and rural life. Keywords: tourist expenditure, household income, SNSE, Structural Path Analysis (SPA).

Abstract

Investment is an important key for economic growth of a nation, in fact even for developing countries such as Indonesia. There are several factors affecting foreign direct investment coming to a nation. The goal of this research is to analyze the implementation of tax incentive to the behavior of foreign direct investment. Beside this, in general the aim of research is to identify the impact of product domestic bruto, national saving and tax upon the level of foreign direct investment coming to Indonesia during period 1970-1999.By Using regression analysis, the result show that foreign direct investment in Indonesia is affected positively by product domestic bruto and tax incentive that is PP No. 45/1996. The tax incentive given by the government, however, attracts less foreign direct investment. In other hand, by using qualitative analysis, the decision of foreign investors depend upon empirically not only the economic factors but also the non-economics factors.Based on the situation above, the study suggests that in order to achieve an optimum investment policy, the economic policy need to support the consistency and transparency of the government policy, create the political and social stability and secure in doing business activities in domestic market. In addition, good infrastructure is incentive too for the foreign direct investment because it leads to decrease the investment cost.  Keyword: foreign direct investment, product domestic bruto, tax incentive
