Abstract

Misconceptionis a notion which is contradictory with the scientific one or the idea claimed by expertsin a certain Field; the notion is inaccurateup on a concept, the concept use is false, it sex emplification sare wrong, the different concept sare confusing, and the hierarchi calrelation of the concepts is wrong. Therefore, information about misconception is required so as to avoid a continuous misconception. One of the factors which affect the mastery of concept by the students deals with their cognitive style. The objective of this research is to identify and describe the existence of misconception in the subject matter of Basic Introduction to Mathematics with the topic of discussion of Logics viewed from the students’ cognitive style. This research used a descriptive qualitative methodwith a casestudyapproach. The subjects of theresearchwerethefirst semester students of the Study Program of Mathematics Education of STKIP PGRI Pacitan, Year 2011. The samples of theresearchweretakenbyusingthepurposive sampling technique. The identification of theexistence of misconceptionwasdonebyusingtheCertainty of ResponseIndex (CRI) developedbySaleem Hasan, andtheidentification of thestudents’ cognitivestylewasconductedbyusingtheinstrument of Group EmbeddedFigures Test (GEFT) developedbyWitkin. The data of theresearchwereanalyzedbyusingthe model claimedbyMilesandHuberman. The results of theresearchshowthattheproportion of misconceptionbythestudentswiththecognitivestyle of Fielddependent (FD) ishigherthanthat of studentswiththecognitivestyle of Fieldindependent (FI). The studentswith FD undergomoremisconceptionsininversion, conversion, andcontraposition (38%) whereasthestudentswith FI undergomoremisconceptionsin plural statement negations and innegations with quantifiers (32%). The misconceptions by thestudentswith FD arelargelycausedbytheirwrongpre-conceptionandlowability. Meanwhile, themisconceptionsbythestudentswith FI aremostlyduetotheirwrongsimplificationandintuition.

Abstract

There are two points in this research. First, there are lot of violence phenomena and the strained situation between the members of religious community in the society recently. Second, it has not found the way to solve the conflicts which is relevant to the Indonesians character. Related to the problems, the results of this study show that; 1) through multicultural teaching and learning method, the unique of human beings, suchas the differences of religion or belief, race, culture, sex, physical aspects and peoples’ economic status can be placed on the same level.2) the multicultural educational concept of education in three centers of education by Ki Hajar Dewantara as one of the alternative application methods. Trough familial education, the parents teach their children for understanding the importance of having equal right among the ones who have different ethnic group, race, religion, belief, culture, social strata, and humanism values. At school, the teachers and academic staffs can teach the multicultural values of education which are systematic, academic, and controlled. In the society, the citizen or the members of thesociety can implement the feeling of awareness in the real life, related to the importance of seeing the differences of people without differencing the religion, belief, culture, sex, physical aspects and peoples’ social status.

Abstract

In the history of Moslem education, the history of Islamic Schools development will always be atractive to be analized critically. The study is being urgent because it is expected that the Islamic schools will have some roles in the Moslem education development objectively and comprehensively. It is regarded as the important one because in every phase of Islamic schools’ development is always found some efforts to be better, the innovation, and other improvements. Islamic school is one of the Islamic isntitutions of education in Indonesia. The islamic school has long cronology on its development. Since it is formed until now, there are some improvements which are trasforming the Islamic education institutions to be qualified which are supported by the Moslem reformers. The lack of the awareness of the Moslem education importance in Indonesia in the beginning of Islamic schools’ development is felt by the Moslem doers of education. That is why, the Islamic schools should be forceful.
