Abstract

Subgrade is an important part in road pavement construction, which serves as the foundation and must have the ability to bear the traffic load applying on the surface of the pavement. This study examined changes in the carrying capacity of soft soil after stabilization process using asphalt emulsion. The results of this study indicate that the stabilization process using asphalt emulsion can lower the Plasticity Index and increase the dry density and strength of the soil. Keywords: subgrade, stabilization, asphalt emulsion, Plasticity Index, dry density, soil strength.

Abstract

This study concerns with the research work on Location Model of Public Service Obligation State-Owned Company (PSO-SOC). Its aim is to develop an approach of making location decision on distribution facilities of such company, in which capacities of facilities are limited (capacitated facilities) and it deals with single commodity. Heuristic solution is proposed to modify established Add Algorithm, which is designed for uncapacitated facilities. The Network Representation is used to represent original problem of LocationModel. An example is provided to illustrate the proposed step-wise of solving the model. Keywords: location model, Add Algorithm, Network Representation.

Abstract

Speed humps are speed limiting devices to protect pedestrians and reduce the accident rate. The installation of speed humps in residential can reduce the speed of motorists but, at the same time, also can create a problem. The purpose of this study is to analyze the noise level caused by installation of speed humps and to compare noise levels before and after vehicle crossed the speed humps. The results show that the noise levels caused by vehicles after passing the speed hump are higher that those before the hump. The average noise levels at distances of 50 m and 10 m before the speed hump are 64.15 dBA and 63.63 dBA, respectively. These values increase to 66.64 dBA and 69.89 dBA at distances of 50 m and 10 m after the speed hump. It is also found that the noise levels for different location and time of measurement are significantly different. Keywords: speed humps, noise level, speed limiting device.

Abstract

Slag as waste material of steel-making process has similar characteristics with aggregate that has been widely used in pavement construction. The use of slag as chip seal aggregate to provide skid resistance needs to be analyzed. In this laboratory study, the chip seal samples are made using steel slag and natural aggregate. The bonding materials used are asphalt and epoxy resin. Skid resistance tests for all chip seal samples and also hot rolled sheet pavement without chip seal application are performed using the Portable British Pendulum Tester. The results show the variations of chip seal aggregate weight are inconsistent. The natural aggregate used as chip seal material could produce high skid resistance value of 10.3% higher than that using steel slag. Also the skid resistance of chip seal with the ALD 3 mm are not significantly different with that of ALD 6 mm. Similar results occur on the skid resistance of chip seals using epoxy resin and asphalt. Keywords: steel slag, waste material, chip seal, the Portable British Pendulum Tester, skid resistance.

Abstract

The determination of bus service frequency using cost-benefit approach is presented in this paper. This study was conducted in Malaysia where bus operators could provide feasible bus services using this method. The investment costs include all costs for vehicle, human resources, workshop, operational facilities, andsupporting facilities while the benefits are expected from ticket fare collected and fuel subsidy. The primary data consists of passenger number, ticket fare, travel time, number of vehicles, and route length. The secondary data, provided by bus operators, include vehicle investment and operation and maintenance costs. The results indicate that this method is applicable and can be used by bus operators to provide feasible bus services with adequate frequencies. Keywords: cost-benefit analysis, bus service, service frequency.

Abstract

Sustainable transport system should be able to provide physical access to places of employment, health, education, recreation, and other places associated with human life. In addition, sustainable transport must also support the economic growth and poverty reduction. The purpose of this study is to identify the forms of community participation and develop indicators of community participation in a transportation. A comparison of transport systems in two cities in Indonesia, namely Semarang and Surabaya, is selected as a case study. The results indicate that the forms of community participation in sustainable transportation system include payments of fuel tax, vehicle tax, parking charges, public transport tickets, and road pricing. In addition, there are many indicators that can be used to assess the sustainability of an urban transport system. The results also show that the transport system in Surabaya is better than that found in Semarang. Keywords: sustainable transport system, transportation system indicators, community participation.

Abstract

Jakarta has developed an integrated transport system and planned, called Macro Transportation System planto address transportation problems in Jakarta. Transjakarta, a Bus Rapid Transit system (BRT), is one of thepublic transportation facilities included in the Macro Transportation System plan, which was intended as aneffort to developa new urban transportation culture. This study used the concept of socio engineering toassess the Transjakarta transport service in Jakarta. The results indicate that the highest service quality relatedto the dimension of empathy and lower service quality associated with the tangible dimension. Keywords: integrated transport system, Bus Rapid Transit, socio engineering.

Abstract

Baraya Geulis Train Service is local business class passenger train with a route serving Bandung-Cicalengka. In this study, the performance of train operations are assessed, which include operating speed, timeliness, load factor, headway, and comfort on the train. The results show that, in general, the operating performance of the Baraya Geulis Train is quite well and in compliance with existing standards. Only the operating speed of this train needs to be improved so that it can meet the minimum operating speeds, which is 60 km/hour.Keywords: train operational performance, local trains, operation speed.
