Abstract

Generally, an autonomous boat with vision ability faces difficulties in navigation and data processing. In this work, implementation on image processing in underwater environment is implemented using autonomous for surveillance purposes. In this endeavor, the focus will be on analyzing the use of single vision cameras in providing data for research on environmental front underwater and also detecting depth and obstacles for better navigation. The system is able to detect solid objects in underwater and it can provide different   information of marine environment using correct algorithm and technique. The result is accurate enough to detect obstacles or objects above and beneath the water taking into account the diffraction of light needed for perfect vision. In this research, OpenCV library is used for digital image processing and colour feature analysis rather than Mat lab due to the complexity for real time process. The design structure is mainly based on Pontoon style because it is more stable and reliable especially on the river wave condition. Moreover, additional sensors and actuators are implemented in this project to monitor underwater information for navigation purposes.

Abstract

Pulsed eddy current (PEC) is an advanced Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) technique that uses transient waveform for their coil excitation. It has the advantage of gathering different depth information in a single excitation process, thus provide the solution towards the drawbacks by both single and multi-frequency eddy current testing. In this work, experimental and simulation investigations on PEC were conducted to establish the correlation between PEC signals and different defect i.e. crack, depths. Initial FEM simulation work has provided understanding of the underlying phenomena of the PEC results through the visualisation of the induced eddy current and defect interaction in the SS 304 sample. Features from the differential magnetic field transient profiles have provided information of the crack in terms of its depth and location. The understanding of the PEC responses and results can be extended for future work in quantitative evaluation of defect in conductive samples by PEC.

Abstract

Graphene is considered as a famous nanomaterial because of some parameters such as its large surface–to–volume ratio, high conductivity, high mobility, and strong mechanical and elasticity properties. Therefore, in this work the conductance of two dimensional bilayer graphene (BG) is developed using the Fermi Dirac distribution function. For bilayer graphene two, various stacking structures (AA and AB) have been reported, which have armchair edge. Quantum gradient emerged between the channel and the gate and carrier movement of bilayer graphene is considered as FET channel, which is an important property of FET. Besides, band gap energy and resistance of BG have been modelled in this study. The impact of temperature on the resistance is extensively studied. It is demonstrated that the resistance of BG is the function of temperature and the conductance is increased at higher values of temperature.

Abstract

Segmentation of brain tumors in magnetic resonance imaging is a one of the most complex processes in medical image analysis because it requires a combination of data knowledge with domain knowledge to achieve highly results. Such that, the data knowledge refers to homogeneity, continuity, and anatomical texture. While the domain knowledge refers to shapes, location, and size of the tumor to be delineated. Due to recent advances in medical imaging technologies which produce a massive number of cross-sectional slices, this makes a manual segmentation process is a very intensive, time-consuming and prone to inconsistences. In this study, an automated method for recognizing and segmenting the pathological area in MRI scans has been developed. First the dataset has been pre-processed and prepared by implementing a set of algorithms to standardize all collected samples. A particle swarm optimization is utilized to find the core of pathological area within each MRI slice. Finally, an active contour without edge method is utilized to extract the pathological area in MRI scan. Results reported on the collected dataset includes 50 MRI scans of pathological patients that was provided by Iraqi Center for Research and Magnetic Resonance of Al Imamain Al-Kadhimain Medical City in Iraq. The achieved accuracy of the proposed method was 92% compared with manual delineation.

Abstract

EMR helped improve services to patients by delivering organization and accuracy of patient information, but issues regarding security breaches and medical identity theft are growing concerns. This paper enhance the current EMR system by integrating modified encryption. The simulation used modified Blowfish algorithm in an EMR system that focuses on four goals: 1) define the requirements, 2) design and identify features, 3) develop the EMR incorporating added security mechanism using modified Blowfish algorithm, and 4) test the application with sample data. Based on the results, the incorporation of the encryption was successful based on testing and checking done on the input terminal and the database server. Data inputted on the EMR system was successfully encrypted before transmission and decrypted only on the terminal for viewing. Performance results show that without encryption, saving took an average of 87.8ms while encrypted, it acquired 88.8ms, a difference of 1ms can be noted. The minimal difference is because of the size of the data. The average decryption time of all records using modified algorithm took 1342ms while using plaintext took 1322ms. The decryption time is higher by 20ms due to the application of the decryption algorithm.

Abstract

This paper proposes a new meta-heuristic search algorithm, called Bat Algorithm (BA). Bat algorithm is an optimization technique motivated by the echolocation behavior of natural bats in finding their foods. The proposed algorithm is presented to solve the dynamic economic emission dispatch (DEED) problem. As emission minimization is conflicting with minimum cost of generation, the DEED problem becomes a multi-objective optimization problem with conflicting objectives. The proposed algorithm is validated on 5-unit generation system for a 24 h time interval. The results proved the efficiency of the proposed method when compared with the other optimization algorithms reported in the literature.

Abstract

In floating point arithmetic operations, multiplication is the most required operation for many signal processing and scientific applications. 24-bit length mantissa multiplication is involved to obtain the floating point multiplication final result for two given single precision floating point numbers. This mantissa multiplication plays the major role in the performance evaluation in respect of occupied area and propagation delay. This paper presents the design and analysis of single precision floating point multiplication using karatsuba algorithm with vedic multiplier with the considering of modified 2x1 multiplexers and modified 4:2 compressors in order to overcome the drawbacks in the existing techniques. Further, the performance analysis of single precision floating point multiplier is analyzed in terms of area and delay using Karatsuba Algorithm with different existing techniques such as 4x1 multiplexers and 3:2 compressors and modified techniques such as 2x1 multiplexers, 4:2 compressors. From the simulation results, it is observed that single precision floating point multiplication with karatsuba algorithm using modified 4:2 compressor with XOR-MUX logic provides better performance with efficient usage of resources such as area and delay than that of existing techniques. All the blocks involved for floating point multiplication are coded with Verilog and synthesized using Xilinx ISE Simulator.
