Abstract

Sharing knowledge is one of important elements in academic libraries. The activity uses ICT to inform one another. Most academic libraries in Indonesia, supporting infrastructures and reward are the main factor to conduct the activity. The implementation of such activity, especially in academic libraries, has resulted some beneficial both for librarians and its users. Motivation is considered as one of important aspects in sharing knowledge. By having supporting facilities or infrastructures, the activity can run smoothly and properly.

Abstract

On-the-job training is needed in various scenarios and takes on a number of different guises. Each institution has its own unique, evolving needs that will are ongoing staff training. New employees, even when they are experienced lagers, undoubtedly will need to learn about local cataloging rules, work flow and possibly the library management system. A new job might also involve cataloging new types of material. On-the-job training is particularly vital for library school graduates as they face additional issues concerning practical application of their cataloging education. Every library staf needing cataloging training will be a professional librarian, and it is also required for paraprofessionals who perform cataloging tasks. Determining the objectives of the training should always be the first step, and these objec­tives will inform the whole planning process. While some training ideas are as important now as they were 20 years ago, the twenty'-first-century library brings new challenges. For instance, the changes in library school curricula mean that traditional assumptions about a new graduate's cataloging skills must be discarded. However, twenty-first-century cataloging training is not just situated in the present and future; to fully understand present-day catalog­ing and cataloging rules, trainees need to understand past practices of retrieval and to reimagine its card catalog roots. Therefore, twenty-first-century libra­ries need an army of Janus-like catalogers where each one trains their recruits to look to the past, present, and future.

Abstract

The study aims to identify the degree of author collaboration among scholars in digital literacy articles published from 1997-2013. The 661 digital literacy articles were gathered and indexed by Web of Science. The study found that the degree of author collaboration was 0.62 or 62%, indicating that more than a half of 661 articles were multi-authored papers. In addition, America Continents have proportionally contributed in discussing about digital literacy topic. It was then followed by European countries, Australia/Oceania, Asia, and Africa respectively. The study also figured out that Eszter Hargittai was the most prolific author who has published 8 articles in different journals on this particular topic.

Abstract

Reading is the most problem that this nation challenge with. Nowadays, as the ICT involved any pace of human life, many libraries are getting the same problem that is how to attract people to love reading, or accessing information in general. Many actions were taken by some libraries to attract people to love reading, for instance, a Love Reading Community (Komunitas Cinta Membaca). This is one of solutions that can be adopted to other libraries. The aim of this community is to encourage students having reading habits. Therefore, the paper will discuss the community efforts in encouraging student to love reading.

Abstract

Terbitnya Peraturan Menteri Agama Republik Indonesia Nomor 6 tahun 2013 tentang Organisasi dan Tata Kerja sebagai ortaker baru di lingkungan UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta mengakibatkan adanya perampingan satuan kerja di lingkungan UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta termasuk salah satunya adalah perpustakaan. Dengan mengambil dan menerapkan konsep dari lean thinking. Tulisan ini dimaksudkan untuk merampingkan alur kerja efektif dan efisien dengan menghilangkan waste atau pemborosan waktu. Lean thinking diterapkan oleh Taiichi Ohno, pemilik perusahaan Toyota di Jepang.

Abstract

The development of knowledge and life became ease with the presence of information communication and technology, particularly internet. Information literacy is needed to access any form of information through the internet. Academicians are expected to be information literate. They should use and evaluate information resources, especially from the internet in any kind of learning process. The ability to be literate in library services is necessary important in order to optimize library resources and services. Besides, information literacy tells end-users to recognize information sources and can be ease to find the needed information from different and varieties sources. Many models of information literacy are implemented in many libraries in which the objective is to enhance literacy skills for library users.

Abstract

The satisfaction of library users is an indication to know how successful a library in giving good services. It is involved in the way how communication is being conducted and librarian behave to guide, direct, and provide information to its users. From here, library can show its roles when facing information technology today. The development of information technology has given a chance for library to develop its online retrieval system in which it can be used to help user to find the needed information. It is therefore important to note by all libraries around the world to consider today environment that the technology has been involved in many kind of human activities, including in library routines. Due to a library is a service organization, the main aim is to give good services and satisfying library users. One effort is IRS, Information Retrieval System.

Abstract

The library is one of the forms of organization of learning resources that collects various information in the form of a book and other form (non-book material) that can be utilized by the user (faculty, students, and community) in an effort to develop their knowledge, ability and skill. Library itself is a resource center for learning. If related to teaching and learning in universities, libraries provide a very valuable contribution in the effort to increase the activity of students and improve the quality of education and teaching. Through the provision of libraries, students can interact and engage directly both physically and mentally in the learning process. Library is an integral part of the overall university programs, which together with other educational components also determine the success of the process of education and teaching. Use of the library as a trend in self-learning in higher education, must be supported by student interest in reading. Several attempts to do to improve student reading craze through the library are: 1) To provide students the literaturs they interested in ; 2) Make the library as a fun place for students through a good arrangement, with a friendly service; 3) Make the promotion and development activities interests and passions read by using the library; 4) Provide additional tasks to students outside of the classroom. Provision of additional task is certainly related to the limited hours of lessons in the classroom.
