Abstract

Simulation of mystic in mystical-religious ‘Rahasia Ilahi’ television movie, broadcasted by TPI, is the main focus of this article. Simulation is a thought from Jean Baudrillard (1929- 2007) about production of media text which does not have any reality background. Theoretically, a simulation ended when human, as the subject, has no control over sign, as the object, which in the end, the both merge and turn into a new reality. The merger of the subject and the object mark the emergence of an implosion. Implosion is an inward explosion as a result of the merger of several thoughts through simulation practice. Mystical simulation in ‘Rahasia Ilahi’ television movie could deliver a new and shallow meaning of religious because it had set off from the truth of text and reality as the context. The new meaning could be that the image of God is cruel. There could also be new meaning of religiosity that faith is constructed by fear, not by the truth of the religious thought. Thereby, simulation had become dilemma because it had two meanings. In one side, it is emancipative because it can deliver sharp critics toward the people of television industry who produce television programme which has no reality basis. In the other side, it has negative side because simulation ended with fatalism which is theoretically assumes that subject has no control over object. Pataphysically, this article would like to recommend that subject should return to the power of imagination, rationality, and spirituality. Human as the subject would never loose and cannot be defeated by any object because as khalifah, human should stand in the front line and leading history.

Abstract

Yogyakarta as a student city is an asset. Branding activity are maintain this positioning that must be done through marketing strategy. This study is used to support that activity. Brand image Yogyakarta as student city is importance to be done as part of marketing communication to identify the audiences. The aim of the study is are describe attributes of student city and how brand image Yogyakarta as a student city. Research sites are UPN, UGM, and UII students. Samples size are 300 respondents. Questionare used to data collection technique. Data analysis use descriptive statistic with “diagram of snake”. Conclusion of brand analysis show that student city attributes are students from all Indonesia, popular universities, qualified universities, completly collection stores book, low cost stores book, sport facilities, entertainment facilities, residence facilities, reachable living cost. Based on that attributes can be conclusioned that brand image Yogyakarta as a student city are good.

Abstract

Mass media has significant role in dispersing women issues. Especially in conducive political opportunity structure, feminist ideology shared by woman activists grows rapidly. International women discourses informed by mass media influence, adopted, and motivate what women activists will do. And finally mass media play important role in the struggle for gender equality. Mass media inform and campaign for news and informations so that the readers or audiences give greater attention and awareness in women’s rights. In the Indonesia context, many women from Non Govermental Organizations influenced by international issues and international phenomena in their struggle for women empowerment. They learn almost all the international issues and phenomena from mass media, especially newspaper and internet. For the example, the vagina monolog performance in Madisson square motivated the Indonesian women activist to performed the same thing in Indonesia. On the other hand, Indonesian women activists always share their feminist ideologi or campaign for women empowerment in newspapers, magazines and internet. Many Indonesian people realize that the encouregement for women, gender equality and women empowerment are the important things to do. And all what Indonesian women activists have done become a reality that mass media has very important role in campaingn for women issues and gender equality.

Abstract

This study aims to analyzing the influence of television advertisement on the housewives attitude to the product. This analysis used the selective influence theory with selected independent variables, such as the slogan, model, and repetition advertisement, and motivation, age, education, income, jobs, and reference group as well. Attitude to the product as the dependent variable. Research uses analytical survey method with the population are housewives living in Padang. The sample was taken through cluster random sampling technique based on administrative area, there were 390 housewives. The primary data were obtained through questionaire which was designed in accordance with the need of the research, interview, and observation. Documentation was the source of secondary data. Used for path analysis. Research finding show that advertisements of tagline, models, repetitions, motivation, age, education, income, and group reference wholly influence significantly toward to the attitude of this products. Partially only the income doesn’t influence significantly toward attitude to the product.

Abstract

As a literature in the form of novel, Gadis Pantai actually has a hidden meaning which Pramoedya wants to present as the author. The mistress practice is not only presented as a kind of discriminative behavior toward Javanese women, but also has a correlation with Pramoedya social background and ideology. This research methodology employed in this research is Sara Mills’ Critical Discourse Analysis model which focuses on feminism discourse. The nature of study using this model tends on political text writing related to author’s ideology and the extensive meaning that Gadis Pantai novel comprehensively expects to bring about. The results of this study show that Pramoedya Ananta Toer tends to explore injustice experienced by Javanese women represented by Gadis Pantai to criticize feudalism practices in Java. By presenting the injustice experienced by Gadis Pantai, Pramoedya Ananta Toer actually wants to awaken readers’ awareness and empathy towards what happened to Gadis Pantai. He also invites readers to fight injustice practices in all aspects, especially those which relate to Javanese culture which still employs social classes in its society, and places a woman as a secondary being after a man and as a suppressed one. Pramoedya employs a novel as media in transferring his thoughts and ideology to change social construction in Javanese society which has been inherited from generation to generation.

Abstract

The purpose of research is analyzing the effect on communication between headmaster with teachers surrounding schools and organizational climate toward senior high school’s teacher performances in municipality of Bandung. Method used survey explanatory. The populations were senior high school’s teachers in Municipality of Bandung. Based on data analysis contained information that: communication between headmaster and teachers have important meaning for teacher’s performance. By controlling other variable, significantly teacher’s performances depend on communication conducted with headmaster, schools organizational climate have important meaning for teachers. By controlling other variable, significantly teacher’s performance is explained by schools organizational climate, telling style communication is developed by headmaster is very effective if adapted for teachers who have low performances. While selling, participating, and delegating style communication is not effective if adapted for teachers who have low performances. Selling and participating style communication is developed by headmaster is very effective if adapted for teachers who have medium performances. While telling and delegating style communication is not effective if adapted for teachers who have medium performances. Delegating style communication is developed by headmaster is very effective if adapted for teachers who have high performances. While telling, selling, and participating style communication is not effective if adapted for teachers who have high performances. The result shows that teacher’s performances as frame of reference is important factor to determine communication effectiveness between headmaster and teachers. In addition to research had placed organizational climate as an indicator which affecting individual behavior on organization.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was found a model of communication between companies, Bank Indonesia (BI) and Small Medium Entreprises (SME) in Bantul, and communities. This research used subjective approach by qualitative data. The data collection was conducted using interview. Subjects of this research included occured SME who suffered the earthquake in Manding, Bantul Regency. Another subject was Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team from BI Yogyakarta. The data analysis was conducted qualitatively. This research found synergic communication model among Bank Indonesia, government, and society Through CSR Program. CSR Program of BI had fulfilled the systematic of CSR program that suggested by Ambadar, i.e. by planning the implementation and evaluation. The communication held between the company, government, and constructed partner, i.e. SME in Manding industrial centre had been intensive, through the official meeting, reviewing and informally via telephone. CSR program conducted included successful in outsourcing the SME post-earthquake in Manding, Bantul Regency. It seem by the existence of human resources of which had followed English course and computer, physical development by shape of parking lots, ATM, the meeting hall, gates as identity as letter handicraft centre of Manding, and the ballyhoo concerning on Manding, there are plenty of crowd shops visited by both domestic or foreign consumers.

Abstract

Religion as a doctrine/ideology has formed as a belief toward to the existence of the God almighty and culture as the implementation of human relationship among human and the God. Different understanding of God’s essence has created some kinds of religions and beliefs. It causes difference of culture (value, norm, behavior) among religions adherer. Even the differences can be opposite each other. As the example, Moslem believes in monotheism and Hindu believes polytheism. This research purpose is examining how do the societies giving meaning of symbolic in having the interaction between Hindu and Moslem community in Mataram City. From the research it can be examined that of adhering a religion (both Hindu and Islam) basically because following their ancestor. They have no courage to challenge what their ancestor have line up. They have no courage to ask the reason even to discuss it to interpret the meaning of the symbols. Their fear to insult others becomes the obstacle to them. They use their own point of view and some general information that they have got to interpret another religion. Nevertheless, social interaction can happen well. In this case, Moslem community is much more closed than Hindu.

Abstract

This writing aims to introduce Foucault’s life and perspectives, especially to communication studies’ students. This writing consists of Foucault’s background, his idea, research based on it and critiques. Foucault’s life background has influenced many of his ideas, and this writing focuses on his perspectives of Power and Discourse. This writing also gives example to students on how to use Foucault’s idea in Communication field. One of the examples is research about the construction of normative body discourse to the self-concept of single and fat adult women. The research used Michel Foucault’s power relations and discourses, Berger-Luckman’s construction of social reality, and Cooley-Mead’s symbolic interactionism as the framework. The research had succeeded to categorize discourses and self-concepts as the conclusion of the con- struction of normative body discourse to the self-concept of single and fat adult women in Jakarta. As an ending part, this writing shows critiques of Foucault’s idea from other social theorists.
