Abstract

The aim of the research was to reduce inbreeding of Timor deer (Cervus timorensis). This research used semen ejaculated from 8 hard Timor deers with aged 4-8 years old. Semen was collected by electroejaculator without aenesthation. Ejaculate semen was evaluated by both macroscopically and microscopically based on different diluters (andromed®and egg yolk skim) during freezing processes (fresh, before freezing and post thawing). The result indicated that fresh semen volume was 1.01+ 0.21ml, pH was 6.95+0.09 with white milk-creamy colour, had a medium-opaque consistency and typical odor. Microscopic observation showed that the mass motility was 2+-3+ and individual motility was 80.6+5.63%. Sperm concentration was 4728.75+2386.66 milion/ml with viability percentage was 89.16+6.06% and abnormal sperm were 10.37+2.31%. Individual motility and viability percentage before freezing using andromed® and egg yolk skim were 59.38+4.17% and 26.88+7.53% and 80.83+5.86% and 69.28+6.70% respectively. The research concluded that andromed® was effective to maintain motility and viability percentage before freezing. Based on this research, researcher suggests to use andromed® that effective to maintain freezing process quality for future research. Keyword: Rusa deer, before freezing, diluters

Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out the optimum temperature and ripening duration in incubator to produce kefir which had physical quality that met the standard of fermented milk quality. The method of experiment was factorial randomized block design. The first factor was temperature that consisted of 25oC, 30oC and 35oC. The second factor was ripening duration that consisted of 12 hours, 18 hours and 24 hours. The result showed that the temperature and duration of ripening gave a highly significant effect (P<0.01) on pH and viscosity. The combination of temperature (30oC) and ripening duration (24 hours) produced kefir which met the standard of Indonesian industry fermented milk such as pH (3.86) and viscosity 157.6 cps. Abstract

The objectives of the study was to analyse the relationship between dam and their offspring on the basis of body measurement and body weight at some partus types. In this study, 85 ewes and 127 lamb were used as materials. Purposive sampling was used to determine the samples of partum type of ewes having single (A1), twin (A2) and more than two lambs (AL2). Parameters measured were the body length, shoulder height, hip width, chest circumference and chest width. The results showed that all body measurement of dam related to the lambs. The highest correlation were in ≥ P2 for shoulder height, chest circumference, hip width and body length. Those were 0.310: 0.702: - 0.655 and 0.373 respectively. In conclusion, there was relationship on all birth type and parameters between dam and lambs. The AL2 showed closer relationship as compared to that of A1 and A2. Those were body length, shoulder height, chest circumference and hip width.   Keywords: body measurements, regression, birth type, sheep

Abstract

The study aimed at analyzing the benefit of the national income and purchasing budget (APBN) in achieving livestock development program in East Java province and analyzing the contribution of APBN in the livestock development program in East Java. The results showed that the contribution of livestock sub-sector to the Product Domestic Regional Bruto (PDRB) of the agricultural sector in East Java province was relatively low (9.20-9.26%) as compared to other sub-sectors. In addition, the contribution of agricultural sector to the total of PDRB in East Java province was 17.44-17.22%. Although its contribution was relatively low, the APBN budget remained important to develop livestock sector in East Java province. Keywords: livestock development, East Java
