Abstract

This  study analysis  the determinant of  the old generations workers (more  than 60years old) to work or to enter teh labour market. Using Sakerti data, it can be seenthat they have low level of education, low level of family expenditure, are living inthe rural area and working in the informal sector. Generally, the condition of familyeconomy  is  the main  determinant  for  old  generation workers  to work  or  join  thelabour market. Therefore, there is a need to prepare the work conditions and activi-ties that fit for old generation workers due to the fact they are not productive any-more in term of employment.Keywords: old generation workers, labour market and informal sector

Abstract

This study aims to determine the policy of tourism development in reducing poverty.This research is a qualitative research. The research site is set in South Kalimantanwhich  includes all  tourist attractions  in South Kalimantan  in 13  regencies/cities.The focus of research is conducted at leading tourist attraction in South Kalimantan.The population of this research includes all Tourism Departments in South Kalimantanof 13 regencies/cities and community figures at the tourist attractions. The samplingtechniques use purposive sampling and snowball sampling. This is done because ofthe number of data sources did not give a satisfactory data, so the researchers foundthe others that can be used as the source of data (Sugiyono, 2007). The data collectionis conducted through interviews, observation, and study of documentation. The datathat has been obtained is analyzed by using interactive model of analysis which wasdeveloped by Miles and Huberman (1992). This interactive data analysis consists ofthree components; they are reduction, data presentation, and conclusion.Keywords: tourism, tourist attraction, multiplier effect, poverty

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to examine the income convergence in three provincesin Java island such as West Java, Central Java, and East Java during time period2004-2007. Using  two concepts of convergences which are -convergence and -convergence, this paper show that in three regions  there not found -convergenceand -convergence. This result indicated  that  in  three provinces,  if there were anincreasing  in Gross Domestic Regional Product  (GDRP),  it always espoused withenhancing in growth GDRP, and enhancing in the gap  level in one regency to  theother regency. This means that the estimation result exactly confirmed the happeningof economy development with divergence not convergence.Keywords: income convergences, regional economics, and divergence

Abstract

The  roles  of  physical  investment  and  government  expenditure  on  economicdevelopment has been acknowledged in any various research. However, the study inthe role of human capital investment on development economic just  three decadeslater has been held. Human capital investment could be in the form of governmentexpenditure, mainly  to  increase  the  quality  of  human  resources.  It  consist  ofexpenditure  for  the  health  and  education.  It  is  an  importance  factor  to  increasehuman development  quality  and  enhance economic  growth. The  purposes of  thisresearch are to determine the influences of [1] private investment; [2] labor forcegrowth;  [3]  government  expenditure  of  East  Java  Province  for  human  capitalinvestment; [4] government expenditure of East Java Province  for routine/annualexpenditure; and [5] external condition on economic growth of East Java Province.The research applies panel data analysis, and it combines the cross section data in37 regency/municipality and time series data for periods 1990-2004. The researchapplies the verification process that is the Hausman test. The verification test foundthat the suitable model is fixed effect (FE) model. It is found in this research that allthe  independent variables except “external  condition” variable have statisticallypositive and significant influence on the economic growth in East Java Province.Keywords: economic growth, physical investment and human capital investment.

Abstract

The objective of  this  research  is  to analyse  the possibility of community economybased (ekonomi kerakyatan) implementation in Malang district in order to achievesustainable economic development. This reseach state that there are four stages incommunity economy based design:  first, mapping the leading economic sectors inMalang District.  Second, mapping  of  socio-political  conditions  surrounding  thecommunity.  Third,  identify  the  existing  institutional  order.  Fourth,  designing  anappropriate form of partnership in order to accommodate the common good of thegovernment, private sector, and society.Keywords: community economy based, partnership, Malang district.

Abstract

In  the  era of  sustainable  development,  alternative  and  sustainable  tourism havebecome a great  concern  for  local government. Sempu  Island which  is  located  inKabupaten Malang is one of  the interesting cases on how the Ecotourism conceptcould be combined to the local economic development and conservation issues. Theaims of this paper are to gather information about the picture of Ecotourism practicesin Sempu Island. Abstract

East  Java Province  is one of  the  Indonesia  region which high  in poverty  rate,even higher than national average. One of the effective model  to alleviate povertyimplemented in developing countries is the model that able to integrate the poor intothe tourism sector (Ashley, 2000; Cattarinich, 2001). General aim of this study is tobuild a proper institution which able to enlarge an opportunities to the poor to be-come an integral part of the tourism sector. Specific aim of this first year study are:to describe the tourism economic structure in research area of Batu; to describe therelationship intensity   between tourism industry and the local economy; to identifythe capacity of economic resources of the poor households in term of education level,skills, and capital accessibility; and to identify the social capital and the existenceand the nature of local institutions. Analysis unit of this study are : the tourism busi-ness unit,  the tourists; and the poor household.  This study found that : The tourismsector has significance role in the economic structure of Batu. The relationship be-tween tourism industry and local economy is high. Man power, local fruits and veg-etable are the main production input for the tourism businesses. Education level ofthe poor household members is not so low. However, for high level positions in mod-ern tourists industry  was mostly filled by people from other area. The role of formaleconomic institutions such as banks and cooperative business unit in study are notsignificant for the poor. In order to gain additional capital, the poor mostly rely onthe traditional capital accumulation revolving system (Arisan). Beside Arisan, socialcapital of the poor is also accumulated trough social and religious gathering.Keywords: tourism, local institution

Abstract

There are uncertain pattern in the development of rice field function alteration tonon-rice field, where the alteration absolutely depends on various factors, such asthe development of office building (both public and privat), housing, roadway, etc.,in any sub-district at Kabupaten Gowa. The wide of field significantly affects on thetotal of rice production, but the in the level of 5%, the influence of function alterationof rice field to non-rice field statistically was not significant.Keywords: rice field function alteration and rice production

Abstract

This study aims to know the degree of efficiency and continuity of non-bank microcredit financial institution (MFIs). In average when the number of members reaching1200 people. This project is at break-even point (BEP). Also found that with as manyas 2000 members and the range of loan around 150 thousand rupiahs to USD 175thousand rupiahs, the project can cover 85% of total costs  including the  imputedcost. Level of ability of this institution is largely determined by the quality of humanresources involved in this activity; both the level of human resources at Head Officeor  in  the member  level. To  foster and  develop  poverty  community  business,  theappropruate institute  character is not bureaucratic, flexible, bottom-up, independent,has a pattern of clear planning and evaluation and has the ability to build a mentalattitude of small entrepreneurs to  success entrepreneurs.Keywords: financing, non-bank credit institutions, efficiency
