Abstract

Herbal and aromatic plants are attracting more attention among contemporary plant researchers because some human diseases resulting from bacterial antibiotic resistances have gained worldwide concern. Tropical forests in Kampar district were harboring potential plants genetic resources for herbal medicine, that it was economically potential to develop the next future. Presently, the information on potential plants genetic resources for herbal medicine is unknown. The objective of this research was to explore the plants genetic resources of herbal medicine in Kampar district. The result of exploration was found 32 species potential for herbal medicinal and aromatic. Most of them have been cultivated by society as house garden, but partially growth in nature wild. Local people have used as traditional medicine in decade. A part of potential plant was found difficult due to occur the heavy harvesting by society and conservation required

Abstract

In order to develop agriculture in the peatlands, needed data about it's distribution and potency. The study, was done in the in Bengkalis Distric, Riau were conducted in four months. The result of study showed that it’s distribution of tropical peatlands in Bengkalis District was about 82,129.73 ha, differentiated pursuant to land potency: (1) wetland rice is suitable to shallow peats (50- 100 cm); (2) food crop and vegetables is suitable to shallow-middle peats (50-200 cm); (3) fruits is suitable to deep peats (200-300). The crops is suitable in the petlands type, usually also according to shallower peats.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to study shoots multiplication rate of Pineapple (Ananas comosus L. Merr) on Murashige and Skoog (MS) basal medium from BA, NAA and its combination treatment by in vitro culture. The experimental design was completely randomize design with two factorials. The first factor is BA consists of 0.00 μM, 4.44 μM, 8.88 μM, 13.32 μM and 17.76 μM, and the second factor is NAA consist of 0.00 μM, 0.50 μM, 1.00 μM and 2.00 μM. The result of this study showed that BA, NAA and its combination could increase the shoot multiplication rate of pineapple on basal medium Murashige and Skoog. BA and NAA combination produce high multiplication rate than BA without NAA or NAA no added of BA. The best treatment in this study was 4.44 mM NAA + 0.5 mM NAA, produce 107.001,20 planlets/year in Murashige and Skoog basal Medium with uniform, normal and healthy planlet.

Abstract

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is a plantation which plays an important role for Indonesia as the leading commodity for export or for the commodity that is expected to increase farmers' income. Of the various factors that cause the production of palm oil decreased by one of them is the problem of drought during the dry season as it is known that palm oil has a shallow root system (root fibers) so that the easy availability of water shortages. This research was carried out experimentally by using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 4 (four) treatment with 3 (three) replications, so there are 12 experimental units. Each unit consists of Two plants were taken 1 (one) of plant samples. The tested combined treatment consisting of four levels: A (The Water 2400 ml Marihat D × P), B (Giving Water 2400 Topaz ml D × P), C (Provision of Water 1200 ml Marihat D × P), and D (Provision of Water 1200 ml of D × P Topaz). The parameters observed were plant height increment, number of leaves, corm girth increment, dry weight, seed quality index and proline content. The data obtained were analyzed using ANOVA and followed by further tests DNMRT at level 5%. Results showed that treatment of water supply volume provides significant results on the observation parameters plant height increment, whereas the parameters observed in the number of leaves, corm girth increment, dry weight, and seed quality index showed no significant results after further testing DNMRT at level 5%.

Abstract

This research was aimed to study actual population of Bemisia tabaci, the vector of Pepper Yellow Leaf Curl Virus, in endemic and non endemic areas of Pepper Yellow Leaf Curl Disease (PYLCD) at Yogyakarta through population of its adult and immature. Field observation was taken at Sleman District as endemic areas and Bantul district as non endemic areas. We took sticky yellow trap and modified vacuum to collect actual population of adult whiteflies, whereas the immature were observed by direct counting and collecting the infested leaf of chili. The next activity was identifying and analyzing male and female the population by binocular microscope at Entomology Laboratory Faculty of Agriculture Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta. The results showed that adult population of B. tabaci in endemic areas was higher than non endemic areas of PYLCD on chili vegetative phase, whereas the immature population was lower. This condition indicated that migration pattern has been occurred on population B. tabaci.

Abstract

Biopesticide materials extracted from union, mimba leafs, peper betle leafs, lemon grass, and comercial bactericide as control. Bacteria soruces by isolation from rotten cabbage and pineapple. Medium composition of nutrien agar are vitabro 1 g/L, vitamineral 4 g/L, sucrose 7 g/L, skim milk 2 g/L, and agar 11 g/L, whereas broth composition is not added agar. Pure microbial was made by strep method. Inhibition zone of antimicrobe was measured by formula in mm2. Isolation result from rotten cabbage are four coccus bacteria and one bacil bacteria with four positives and one negative gram bacteria. Isolate bacteria from pineapple were one negative and one positive gram. Union extraction had antimicrobe activitiy highest (average 1200 mm2) than others biopesticide. Union extraction had inhibits of growth to all bacteria, bacil, coccus, positive and negative gram. Meanushile peper betle leafs only had antimicrobe activity for coccus negative gram. Boiling on biopesticide sources at 1000C for 45 second could decreasing of antimicrobe activity but fermentation process increased of antimicrobeial activity. Fermentation was increasing of inhibition zone peper betle leafs at 8.6 mm2 on bacil positive gram bacteria, 8.6 mm2 on bacil positive gram, and 30.6 mm2 on coccus negative gram bacteria. Decrease of union activity was estimated by dilution at fermentation.

Abstract

Composting is a natural microbial process involving organic residues. At the end of this process, the low-value organic residues are consequently converted into higher-value products. It has become more widely accepted among those interested in organic farming, since the process is also considered as a practical alternative for use in the management of organic residues. However, the use of compost as organic fertilisers is invariably associated with the constraint in their production. The Aspergillus terreus SUK-1 is known to produce large amounts of enzyme ß-glucosidase, and thus could be effective for the degradation of cellulose. EM4 is an inoculant comprising 90% of the bacteria involved in fermentation and in lactic acid production. In this study, Aspergillus terreus SUK-1 and EM4, together with chicken dung as control, were used to determine and compare their effects on the composting of oil palm fruit fibres. The experiment design was randomized completed design with three treatments, namely Control (with chicken manure), Aspergillus terreus SUK-1 and EM4. Each treatment is replicated five times. The parameter observed was temperature, pH, humidity, carbon contents, nitrogen contents and C/N ratio. the result of this study showed that EM4 is more than effective compare to another for composting of oil palm fruit fibres. The pH, carbon contents, nitrogen contents and C/N ratio values of EM4 treatment at the end of composting were 7.53, 20.54, 2.94, 7.02, respectivel and EM4 give ideal temprature for compos process campare to Aspergillus terreus and control. Based on analyses of variance, EM4 showed significant differences with Aspergillus in temperature, nitrogen and carbon contents, while control in all parameters. for commercially purpose, EM4 is more recommended to use in composting of oil palm fruit fibres because of it is cheaper, easy to obtain in the market and high quality of composting.
