Abstract

This study analyzes Australia and Fiji's bilateral cooperation in thesecurity sector for the 2014-2019 period. Entering the democratizationera after the Fiji Coup in 2006, the relationship between Canberra andSuva seems to be getting better. Several regional and even internationalsecurity initiatives were seen as being encouraged. This paper then arguesthat the convergence of interests between the two can be attributed to thesimilarity of perceptions in terms of regional and international defense, which is increasingly prevalent in the era of democratization in Fiji. Thispaper begins by describing the methodology and theoretical framework offoreign policy analysis used to analyze this phenomenon. The next sectionprovides background on contemporary relations between Australia andFiji and analyzes how their dynamics led to the collaboration in question. This paper ends by analyzing the prospects for the resilience of bilateralrelations between the two countries in the future with the proliferation ofnew security challenges.

History has recorded the crucial role of food in life. More than just abasic human need, food can be a unifying and dividing society, furtherdemonstrating its crucial role in civilization. This led to the emergenceof the practice of gastrodiplomacy — a practice of cross-border culturaldiplomacy through food. Indonesia is one of the countries that haspracticed gastrodiplomacy by empowering its culinary pride. One of thedestinations for Indonesian gastrodiplomacy is North Korea. On variousoccasions, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Pyongyang has oftenpromoted Indonesian food through cooking demonstrations, bazaars,or various formal banquets. Besides, Indonesia has also opened its firstIndonesian product outlet in Pyongyang, which markets Indonesian foodproducts. This article aims to show Indonesia’s gastrodiplomacy efforts inNorth Korea and map them based on various gastrodiplomacy campaignstrategies.

Products of the creative industry, which falls under the category of culturalproducts, represent one of soft power instruments capable of influencingpolicy-making processes. Japan and South Korea are two states that haveimplemented internationalization strategies on their creative industryproducts in order to boost economy. In addition to becoming sectors thatcontribute to the economy, by the means of the Korean Hallyu and CoolJapan, the creative industries of Japan and South Korea have becomeinstruments of cultural diplomacy aimed at influencing public opinionson both states. In Indonesia, differences in the development strategiesimplemented by both states have influenced the degree of success in theircultural diplomacy. Abstract

This research attempts to analyze the wave of North Korean refugees toSouth Korea and how problems arise on the domestic political level to thesocietal level. Waves of refugees have occurred since the division of thetwo Koreas through the 38 parallel, which gave rise to defections fromNorth Korea. Meanwhile, South Korea is perceived as an ideal and safeplace to take shelter. This in turn raised numerous problems explicableby at least two theoretical frameworks, namely the world system theoryin explaining the desire to migrate, and the multiculturalist paradox, which explains the emergence of social and cultural frictions. Discourseon identity and social problems poses a challenge for the South Koreangovernment. On one hand, North Korean refugees can provide beneficialinformation for the government. On the other hand, two social problemsarise, namely the long-term problem for refugees in surviving the mentaland financial burdens, as well as the negative stigma and xenophobiaplaced by the South Korean society on the refugees. These are the reasonswhy integration remains difficult for refugees.

Abstract

Cambodia is a country with the third-highest rate of deforestation in theworld. In 2016, for example, Cambodia lost 28,612 square kilometersof green forest and 87,424 square kilometers of permanent forest. Thislarge number of deforestations, in the end, raises national problems, bothpolitical, economic, and social. The shifting role of women, especiallyCambodian women who depend on forest resources, is one of the effectsof the environmental degradation that happened in the country. If womencould always depend on nature in the past, now women have to worktwice as much to meet their needs. Efforts to reduce global environmentalproblems in the United Nations Reducing Emissions for Deforestationand Degradation (UN-REDD+) program in 2008 have become a breathof fresh air for Cambodia’s environmental problems. In this article, theauthor describes the role of Cambodian women’s involvement in the UNREDD+ program in 2008-2019 to address environmental and climatechange that occurred in the country.
