The Journal is nationally circulated and managed by professionals in their respective areas of expertise. Abstract

This paper discusses the boundary line between culture and religion, especially in connection to Is-lam. From an anthropological perspective, religion is regarded as one element of universal elements of culture.Religion is sacral, while culture is profane. In addition, Islam is not a cultural religion, it comes from Allah,the Almighty God. Therefore, the issue of the boundary between culture and religion is important to discuss.Through the searching of each characteristic, the boundary line between culture and religion could be found.

Abstract

This article presents an outlook of pidgins and creoles starting from the background of the ariseof the using of pidgins and creoles in the world. To have a clear understanding of what pidgins and creolesare the definition of both terms are explained briefly here. This article also discusses some distinctions ordistinctive features of pidgins and creoles and the community using pidgins and creoles in the world. Atthe end of the discussion, this article describes some brief discussions related to some reasons stating thatpidgins and creoles are born as languages.

Abstract

This paper examines the existence of Barus region as a port city of Muslim trade and its relation to the dynamics of politics, religion and the world economy that has developed since hundreds of years ago. Based on historiography and field research, Barus society have practiced Islamic law in their community life. However, the religious practices of Islam in this region declined during the colonization of Portuguese-Dutch. This colonialization was carried out in a long time and simultaneously with the strength of Christianization until the time of Indonesian independence. Based on this fact, the area of Barus and around Central Tapanuli in the recent times manifest as a minority Muslim.

Abstract

The Kingdom of Aceh Darussalam was proclaimed by Sultan Ali Mughayat Syah in 1514 AD The sultans succeeded in making this kingdom as a great, powerful and influential kingdom in Sumatra, Southeast Asia and the world. This region is famous not only of the world’s high export products, but its strategic locationserves as the foundation for Western imperialists to respect the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Aceh Darussalam and seek to establish political and economic cooperation with it, such as Portuguese, English and Dutch. The Netherlands has cooperated with Aceh, though not always running smoothly. Political and economic changes in Europe affected the colonies of the Indies. The Netherlands not only trade with Aceh, but conquered it. Various reasons and strategies are sought and organized systematically. First dragged England into the London Tractat as an entrance to instill its influence in Sumatra, including Aceh. Although the Dutch agreed that they would not disturb the sovereignty of Aceh. Then the Dutch also urged the British to make a treaty Soematra Tractat. Itaims to make Dutch more able to master Aceh. With this last treaty the Dutch bravely disrupted the sovereignty of Aceh, beginning with the provocation and subjugation of Aceh’s regional domains in Sumatra, such as Barus, Siak and Deli, and Trumon and Singkil in Aceh itself. Last pressed the sultan of Aceh and pounded the center of the Kingdom of Aceh.

Abstract

This paper explores the basic matters related to the reason Tabligh Jamaah chose Cot Goh Mosque asa center of activity in Aceh; history and activities of Jamaah Tablihg in Cot Goh and the community’s response inthis region to the existence of Jamaah Tabligh in Cot Goh. This paper is the result of research using qualitativeapproach through naturalistic method. The data were collected by observation, interview and decumentationanalysis. Based on existing data, Jamaah Tabligh as an Islamic reform movement that chose the path of culturaldakwah originating from Mehwat North India has managed to spread to all corners of the world. To Indonesia,this movement has also managed to get into all corners of the country. This movement in Aceh is centered in CotGoh Mosque which is located in Gampong Lamme Garot Sub Montasik Aceh Besar. The choosing of this placeis caused by the central figure of Jamaah Tabligh Ustad Razi bin Raden Sulaiman is from this region, making iteasier for the organization to build communication with the surrounding community. Jamaah Tabligh is doinga variety of religious activities are very positive with various activities of dakwah, memakumrkan mosque, re-membrance and prayer, giving pronunciation salam, civilize the language of religion in every activity. The com-munity response around Cot Goh to Jamaah Tabligh is very positive by supporting and following all the activities.
