Abstract

Highly qualified teachers will be able to conduct better and high quality teaching-learning activities too. Such an ability can be seen when a teacher plan, teach, and assess students’ learning outcomes. Teachers should possess teaching abilities such as ability master subject matters, ability to manage teaching-learning process, ability to manage the classroom, ability to utilize teaching methods/media, ability to manage teaching-learning interactions, and ability to assess students’ learning outcomes. If a teacher possesses those abilities, the students will be motivated to learn. Their motivation will of course translate into increase achievements. As a result, the teaching-learning process will run effectively and efficiently.

Abstract

The use of instructional media in teaching-learning process can help generate students’ interests and help motivate students. This study aims to determine whether the use of natural media such as Angiospermae plants from the biological gardens can improve students’ mastery and learning outcomes and to find students’ responses toward the use of natural media as learning media. This research was conducted as a continuation of a previous study conducted at the State Junior High School (SMP Negeri) 2 of Lhoong Aceh Besar. This research employed pre-experimental method which only used one class. The instruments used were pretest and posttests, student worksheets, the lesson plans and student response sheets. The results of the pretest and posttest which were analyzed by t-test reveals that the use of natural media from Seungko Mulat biological gardens can improve student learning outcomes. The test results of 22 students are for individual learning mastery, 84.62% for classical mastery, and the students’ responses toward the use of biological garden are positive.

Abstract

The idea to change the status of the Ar-Raniry State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN Ar-Raniry) to be the Islamic State University of Ar-Raniry was based on the aspirations of the majority of education stakeholders in Aceh. This change entails a wide range of mandates to conduct teaching-learning processes for various fields of studies. This, therefore, will require that campus infrastructures, teaching-learning facilities, and funding sources be ready. This article is based on the research results revealing the supports for the status change were strong. However, the quantity and quality of the stakeholders’ involvements, either at IAIN Ar-Raniry, regional, or national levels, are considerably low. In addition, the quantity and quality of teaching and administrative staffs at every unit of education within IAIN and the number of campus infrastructures and teaching-learning facilities are far from enough. Thus, the leaders of IAIN Ar-Raniry should continuously benefit from the supports given to IAIN Ar-Raniry with intensive information dissemination, communication, and lobbying. Such intensive efforts should also be accompanied by developing each department and faculty, human resources, and campus facilities and infrastructures. This can be done through a roadmap rational and strong formulation that involves all elements within IAIN Ar-Raniry.

Abstract

Discussing about the development of education in Aceh is not far from the aspect of Aceh’s long history. The development of education in Aceh has run in some phases. Education is very broad but this paper focuses only on aspects of education development in Aceh post-tsunami. Discussions on the development of education in post-tsunami Aceh focus on two aspects, namely formal and informal education. Earthquake and tsunami hit Aceh on December 26, 2004 had extremely changed many aspects of life, including education aspects. The data from the Department of Education reports that 25,000 students and 2,248 teachers died and 2153 school buildings were destroyed or heavily damaged. As a result, Aceh education sectors were in severe condition. It is not exaggerated to say that education in Aceh was coming into "dark ages." After the earthquake and tsunami tragedy, a new Aceh history of education has emerged. Various aids given by countries and international, national, and local NGOs, both formal and informal education has been given opportunities to develop. Education development aimed at two aspects i.e. development of infrastructure and human resources. Changes in both aspects of development have resulted in better education atmospheres in Aceh.

Abstract

The width of triangle is usually taught by using right angled triangles. Many students are confused about how to determine the height of an obtuse triangle so that they cannot figure out the width of a triangle. In addition, the students usually memorize the formulas on the area of a triangle and the students find it difficult to explain ways to find out the formulas various forms of triangles. Learning atmosphere that promote activities done by the students is very important to build thorough knowledge. This learning starts from utilizing activities or concrete things, which gradually lead to the abstract ones. The area of a triangle can be taught in manipulation activities of known realistic things. Furthermore, various experiences are then needed for the concept of triangle’s width by using various forms of triangles such as right-angled triangle, equilateral triangle, isosceles triangle, scalene triangle.

Abstract

Learning cannot be separated from human life. However, each of the human beings learn differently and will need different approaches. One of the interesting learning approaches is humanistic approach. This particular approach focuses on the students. It is assumed that students are the first and the main actors in education. The students are the subjects which become the center of attention in all educational activities. Humanistic educators believe that students have potentials, abilities, and strengths to develop. Education should not only focus on physical and intellectual but social and affective aspects of the students. This writing aims to describe humanistic approach and its learning activities in detailed.
