Abstract

Research of design of solar dryer with evacuated tube collector for drying coffee bean has been done. This research is done through the stage of formulation, design, circuit and testing tools using coffee as material to be dried.Test results of a solar dryer designed then is being used for drying coffee bean (moisture content  from 52.80% to 12.30%), with forced convection system which the air speed are varied of 2-6 m/sec. During the drying process, the average weather conditions are in the range 143-855 Watt / m2, ambient temperature of 28-36 °C. The air temperature in the collector are 85-192 °C and the temperature in the drying chamber are 35-78 °C. The results showed that air drying velocity is directly proportional to the drying rate and collector efficiency but inversely to drying time and specific energy consumption (SEC).

Abstract

Blending of two rubbers can produce superior product properties. This study examines the process and cure characteristics of the NBR/EPDM blend. This study used several types of compatibilizer, i.e. methyl-methacrylate-butadiene-stirene (MBS), montmorillonite, and silica. Compatibilizer is used to get the homogeneous blend. NBR/EPDM compounds were done by two-roll mill. The mooney viscosity, rheology, and cure kinetics were studied with mooney viscometer and rheometer. It is known that the NBR/EPDM blends produce the compound with the process ability, curing time, and cure rate index better than NBR compound and EPDM compound separately. Montmorillonite as the compatibilizer produces compound with the process ability and cure rate index better than MBS and silica. Montmorillonite can be used as appropriate compatibilizer for the NBR/EPDM blend.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know effect the addition of tapioca flour to adhesiveness and viscosity of the tile compound rubber glue formulations using filler material. The tile compound rubber glue made from mixture of tapioca flour as filler material. Design research with variation of tapioca flour such as formula A (8 g of tapioca flour), formula B (12 g of tapioca flour), formula C (16 g of tapioca flour), formula D (20 g of tapioca flour) and formula E (24 g tapioca flour) and F (requirements generally and comparison glue). The result showed that the addition of tapioca flour  have significant effects on the adhesiveness and viscosity of glue. The higher the addition of tapioca flour (24 g), the adhesiveness would be lower (1.78 kg / in) because of decreased adhesion force. Tiles rubber compound glue formula complied with requirements generally glue (the adhesiveness value of 4.395 kg / in and the Brookfield viscosity value of 98.275 cP is the B formula (tapioca flour 12 g) with an adhesiveness value of 4.17 kg / in and viscosity value 51.33 cP.

Abstract

A study of the manufacture of natural latex liquid compound as a coating material on the manufacture of hard interlining fabric by varying the fineness of kaolin 100 mesh, 250 mesh and 400 mesh as a filler material plus other chemicals. The purpose of this research is to get the right natural liquid latex compound formula as a coating material in the manufacture of interlining fabrics that have specifications in accordance with the SNI 0894-2008 Standard of Hard Cloth (Interlining). Interlining fabrics are fabrics used to coat certain parts of clothing such as collars, waist, buttons, sleeves, shoulders and other parts that require high stiffness and a stable shape to enhance the appearance of clothing. The study was conducted by varying the fineness of the kaolin filler in 3 treatments each 100 mesh, 250 mesh and 400 mesh and varying the amount of kaolin filler in 4 treatments each 90 g, 180 g, 270 g and 360 g. The parameters tested were fabric rigidity, adhesive power, tensile strength, elongation and tear strength of fabric. Increased fineness of a kaolin filler from 100 mesh to 400 mesh in latex compound as a coating material, the fabric rigidity, adhesion, tensile strength, elongation and tear strength of the fabric tend to increase. Whereas the increasing amount of kaolin filler usage from 90 g to 270 g as a coating material can increase the fabric rag, but the subsequent addition decreases fabric rigidity. Conversely, the weight gain of fillers from 90 g to 360 g decreases the adhesiveness, tensile strength, elongation and tear strength of the fabric. The best results and fulfill the requirements of SNI 0894-2008 were obtained on formula IX using a 90 g kaolin filler and kaolin 400 mesh fineness with fabric stiffness value of 86.2 mg.cm, adhesion 1,8 kg / cm, tensile strength 40,59 kg for direction of warp and 31,43 kg for feed direction, 41.64% for luran direction and 36,63% for feed direction, tear strength 7,12 kg for warp and 6,53 kg for feed direction.

Abstract

The main product of Indonesia natural rubber is SIR 20. The quality improvement can be done by converting the production of natural rubber SIR 20 to SIR 20 constant viscosity (SIR 20CV). The production of natural rubber SIR 20CV need the stabilizing agents among other a mixture of hydrazine hydrate and ammonium sulfate. The research purpose was to find out and to study the formulation and dosage of the mixture hydrazine hydrate and ammonium sulfate on the production of constant viscosity rubber. This research used factorial completely randomized design with the treatment factor consist of percentage of mixture hydrazine hydrate-ammonium sulfate (treatment A), additive dosage (treatment B) and control (HNS and blank/without additive). The treatment A consists of 50%:50% (A1), 70%:30% (A2), and 30%:70% (A3). The treatment B consists of 0.05% (B1), 0.10% (B2), 0.15% (B3) and 0.20% (B4). Parameters were latex coagulation condition, dry rubber content, and technical quality (initial plasticity/Po, plasticity retention index/PRI, Mooney viscosity/MV, stability viscosity index/SVI, volatile content and ash content). The analysis of technical quality was compared with requirements of SNI 06-1903-2000 about SIR. The results showed that the use of mixed additives of hydrazine hydrate and ammonium sulfate had a significant effect on the parameter pH of latex coagulation, dry rubber content, plasticity, Mooney viscosity, and viscosity stability index of the rubber SIR 20CV. The best treatment was obtained by the treatment of A3B1, which is 30% hydrazine hydrate and 70% ammonium sulfate with a dosage of 0.05%, because could produce natural rubber SIR 20CV with grade CV-70 in accordance with SNI 06-1903-2000.
