Abstract

Sayung waters is a region highly vulnerable to catastrophic erosion along the coast, which is directly followed by an increase suspended sediments and particles from the bottom of the waters that was stirred by oceanography factors. The purpose of this study was to determine the concentration and distribution of the latest TSS condition and its effect on water quality parameters in the waters of Sayung. The sampling method is using purposive sampling, with the stations spread out along the coastal area of Sayung, the main data consist of current, tide, bathymetry, coastline and water quality, and the secondary data consist of RBI map and tide forecasting, those data is analyzed numerically and statistically. TSS value ranged between 23,1-199,6 mg.L-1, the distribution of TSS is simulated in the condition of ebb to tide with current speed ranged between 0-0.41 ms-1, that distribution also influenced by physical water factors such as salinity, temperature, and density and has  impacts to enhancing the turbidity and indirectly decrease the photosynthesis activity and inhibit the oxygen cycle in the Sayung waters.

Abstract

Batur Lake is one of the natural lakes in the province of Bali where the activity of fishing, agriculture, tourism and housing available. This study aims to determine the effect of nitrate relation to the natural growth of the water hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes). Increased water hyacinth biomass in Songan station is the highest among the three other stations (Batur, Buahan, and Trunyan). At the end of the study (day 42 ), water hyacinth biomass of Songan station increased by 338.2 % from the initial weight, while at another station the increase weight ranges from 75 % -158 %. The highest daily growth rate in Trunyan station 3.68% / day, and the lowest in station Buahan which only reached 0.88% / day. At the Songan station where are many floating net which contribute to increase nitrate. There is a tendency of growth of water hyacinth faster at higher nitrate conditions. Nitrate conditions ranged from 0,35 to 0,62 m /l which shows that the waters of Batur Lake classified into waters that have a high fertility rate (eutrophic).

Abstract

Water quality monitoring is one of important activity, especially in coastal water, which susceptive with pollution. Water area of Serangan Island is a tidal flat area, influenced by fresh water and sea water inputs. The existence activities, such as cage aquaculture and tourism, and input from river, are threatened to decrease the water quality in north of Serangan water. This research was conducted to the condition of water quality based on water quality standard for aquatic organisms and its spatial distribution. The parameters measured were temperature, salinity, pH, DO, turbidity, and BOD5, in 8 sample points. Some parameters measured directly on water surface (temperature, salinity, pH and DO) and the others were analyzed in laboratory (turbidity, and BOD5). BOD5 was analyzed by standard method of Delzer & McKenzie. Based on research, the result of temperature values ranged from 28,9°C-30,5°C; salinity 29,6 ppt-32,7 ppt; pH 7,7-7,9; DO 3 mg/L-4,4 mg/L; turbidity 1,9 ntu-7,6 ntu; and BOD5 2,8 mg/L-5,4 mg/L. The water quality in Serangan had a different spatial distribution in each parameters. Overall, based on research result, the water quality condition in the body water of Serangan island was good and suitable to support aquatic organisms living.

Abstract

Benoa Bay is semi- enclosed bay, which has embouchures. The existence of embouchures are able to contribute the Total Suspended Solid (TSS) to the Bay. As the one of pollution parameter, TSS could be influencing the ecosystem of coral reefs, seagrass, and the existence of dissolved oxygen. This research was aimed to know the spatial distribution of TSS on the surface layer in Benoa Bay. Sample was taken on January 2016, in flood and ebb. TSS was analyzed using gavimetry method based on SNI No. 06-6989.3-2004. Spatial distribution was analyzed by interpolation method- Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW). The concentration range of TSS on January in ebb to tide and tide to ebb was 22.44 mg/L to 261.33 mg/L. The highest distribution in flood was dominated in around of embouchures. It was suspected by inputs of suspended matter from land to the bay. In tide to ebb condition, TSS concentration was high in some areas, such as around the embouchures, midlle and mouth area of bay. The high concentration was suspected by pattern of tidal current in Benoa Bay. The pattern of current in ebb was leaving to the mouth of Benoa Bay, therefore the TSS concentration dispersed to the mouth of the bay.
