Abstract

The research objectives are to describe The Profile of Teaching Skill Readiness of Candidate Teachers through Micro Teaching Practice in UNRIKA Batam. In teaching skill readiness of candidate teachers here we can see from the result of strength and weaknesses of teaching learning activity in micro teaching practice. If the candidate teacher able to conduct an instructional procedure designed relate to the objective of teaching and material available.The result of this research can be used by all of parties, both internal and external stakeholder to improve teaching leaning readiness in micro teaching practice. The researcher gets the total of 154 data items which are categorized into two groups, namely strength (S) category which consists of 73 data items and weaknesses category which consist of 81 data items. Teaching are divided into two categorizations, they are ‘Strength’(S) and ‘Weaknesses’ (W). Key Words: Profile; Teaching; Readiness; and  Candidate Teacher

Abstract

This thesis discusses the novel by American author Stephanie Meyer entitled New Moon. This novel published by Little Brown and Company on September 2006 and this novel consists of 563 pages. This novel tells about the rarely love between human, vampire and ware wolf in Forks. This thesis focused on the Personality of Jacob Blacks influence his people around him especially his lover by his imprint as seen in New Moon Novel ByStephenie Meyer through Psychological approach. Meanwhile, too see Jacob’s character by personality theory as the main character of the novel, two question are formulated to guide or lead the analysis. Therefore there are two purposes of this research. First, to find out the characteristics of Jacob Black described in New moon novel by Stephanie Meyer. Finally, to know and explain Jacob’s personality by psychology approach.The method applied in this study is Qualitative research. The approach used in this study is psychology approach. The sources of data that are needed to support this study are taken from the novel new moon. Then the source contains the theories of literature, personality and another in terms of books and internet. Based on the result of the analysis, the answer to both questions is as follows. Firstly, Jacob Black’s characteristics are smart, brave, loving and friendly. Finally, Jacob’s characters influence his personality to save his lover and family and treaty from their enemy. Key Words:  Character ,Personality

Abstract

The objectives of the research are to: (1)find out types of corrective feedback used by the lecturers in Speaking activity at the second semester of English Department Students of Universitas Riau Kepulauan Batam in the academic years of 2013/2014; and (2) find out student’s response towards the lecturer’s feedback.The research was carried out at Universitas Riau Kepulauan Batam, from March 2014 to May 2014.The subject of the research is the second semester of English Department Unrika. The researcher did observation to take the data of corrective feedback used in class and used closed questionnaire, observation, and interview to find out student’s response towards the lecturer’s feedback.Then, the data was analyzed by using triangulation. Based on the result of data analysis, it was found that the lecturer used five types of corrective feedback. Recast was the feedbackmostly used by lecturer. It was followed by repetition, metalinguistic feedback, elicitation, and explicit correction. The student’s response toward feedback given by the lecturer were mostly negative. Most of the students were not comfortable with themselves when given feedback by the lecturers. Abstract

 The objectives of this study are; (1) to formulate patterns of coding used in conversation texts of the English Zone textbook, 2) to investigate how coding are structured in conversation texts of the English Zone textbook, and 3) to reason why the coding techniques are used in conversation texts of the English Zone textbook. The data were taken from conversation texts of students’ English textbook: English Zone for senior high school students year grade XI (SMA). Descriptive qualitative method was used in this study. There were six conversation texts as the data source was taken from students’ English textbook: English Zone. The findings of this study shown that there are two types of patterns of coding in conversation texts, namely congruent and metaphorical coding. Congruent coding patterns are built in complete mood and residue (at least using mood) and metaphorical coding patterns are built in elliptical mood pattern. Mood and residue pattern is caused by the system of the conversation is using Proposition system. It means the conversation texts involve the statement and question, in another word, the content of the conversation dominantly are about giving and demanding information.  It was found that conversation texts convey the simple structure of conversation which means to attract the readers or students to understand easier by using complete mood and residue and elliptical mood pattern of conversation text is in less number. Thus, those conversation text in English Zone textbook written in simple structures in case of language usage to make the message or information easier to understand. Keywords:English Zone Textbook; Congruent and Metaphor Coding;and Proposition System of Conversation Texts

Abstract

In recent days the advertisement is a most effective way to sell or to market new products of the businessmen or producers. Due to the case, advertisement has great role in selling or marketing of the product. The producers use interesting advertisements to introduce their product by using interesting or different language style. This study focuses on the structural discourse of the advertisement used in Batam Pos daily newspaper in Batam island. Sample of the data obtained from job career column in January 2013. Abstract

The purpose of this research was to gather English as a second language (ESL) learners perceptions pertaining to their experience in learning English language in secondary schools, colleges and local universities. The research methodology incorporated dialog journal using facebook. Dialog journal is a written communication between a teacher and students or other writing partners, which provides a natural context for language development and a new channel of communication outside the classroom. The research incorporated facebook as it currently one of the most prominent online social networking sites among Indonesians. 46 respondents from public and private colleges and universities discussed various learning issues including impediment that they encountered during English lessons in secondary school, college and university: learners’ views and comments on issues pertaining to local English language teaching and learning; and suggestions to improve the teaching and learning of English. The discussion revealed varying viewpoints such as difficulties and reasons that students faced in learning the four language skills i.e. speaking, listening, reading and writing; and the lack of confidence which hampered their language improvement. This research hopes to enlighten educators of arduous challenges that students faced learning the English language so that they may strive to improve and consolidate their teaching skills.Key Words: Dialogue Response Journal; Language Proficiency; and Language Skills.

Abstract

This research entitled ”The Lexico Grammatical Features of The Political Registers Analysis in The Editorials of The Jakarta Post newspaper 2005” is intended to describe the political register in the editorials of the Jakarta Post particularly the lexemes of political registers and its types of meaning according to Leech. The object of the research is the registers in the editorials of the Jakarta Post newspaper March-May 2005. In collecting the data, the researcher uses the noting techniques by taking a note.  In doing the analysis, the researcher applies the descriptive method to describe and to analyze all the data, because the data of this research are in the form of words, phrases, and sentences. Based on the result of the research, there are four parts of speech of  lexemes which are found in the editorial of the Jakarta Post newspaper March-May 2005. There are 11 words of verb lexeme with the frequency of occurrence  8.16%, 44 words of noun lexeme with the frequency of occurrence 83 %, 8 words of adjective lexemes with the frequency of occurrence 8.2 %, and there is one  word of adverb lexeme with frequency of occurrence 0.3 %. So, there are 64 terms of political registers with the total frequency 324 times. There are two types of meaning found in the sentences written in the editorial of the JP. Those two meanings are conceptual meaning and reflected meaning. There were no connotative, stylistic, affective, collocative and thematic meaning found in this research. Because those five types of meaning do not fulfill the criteria needed to express something in relation to the political language aims.Key Words: Lexico Grammatical Features; Political Register; and  Jakarta Post Newspaper

Abstract

The writer chose the literary work of Shakespeare entitled Julius Caesar to be analyzed. In this literature, the writer noticed that the character of Brutus who was also a friend of Julius Caesar was willing to kill his closest friend. The writer was interested in analyzing this side of Brutus. Brutus was well known as a wise and honest man but could commit a crime. Brutus did not want Rome to turn into imperial Rome which was originally a Republican state. Further, the writer analyzed the internal conflicts experienced by Brutus and its effects toward Brutus’ life. In analyzing this thesis, the writer used the psychological approach with the theory of psychoanalysis; Human Psycho Zone by Sigmund Freud consisted of id, ego, and superego. The writer analyzed the internal conflicts experienced by Brutus, namely: his blindness to reality and his idealism that did not provide a benefit for him. These conflicts had negative impacts to the end of Brutus’ life after killing Julius Caesar. The negative impacts in the life of Brutus namely: Brutus' wife suffered severe depression since Brutus became a murderer, Brutus felt inferior and loss his self-esteem, and destroys him. Based on the analysis conducted by the writer, the id of Brutus was more dominant than the superego. The id of Brutus dominated in any actions that Brutus did, especially for dealing with conflicts within himself.Key Words: Internal Conflict; Human Psycho Zone; and Impact

Abstract

The objective of this research was to describe the psychological approach of main character in Miss Brill short story by Katherine Mansfield. The result of the research was analyzed by using Freud Theory about Id, Ego, and Superego.  Based on the result, the main character Miss Brill has a strange behavior that is only for attracting the people around her. She can not ignore her subconscious. She looked like happy but in fact she felt lonely. She wanted to be respected and loved by people around her and has relationship with someone. Moreover, she is an independent woman who feels lonely. Id that influences it is the happiness or willingness to get a present from someone special; she is unaware that she needs it. However, because of her loneliness Miss Brill never thinks about it. It is influenced by the superego. The superego can be understood as reflection of Miss Brill loneliness and her willingness to have relationship with other in her life. The individual Ego can differentiate itself from surroundings; it combines to form the core of the personality. Ego controls the direction of action, deciding which one will be satisfied. Characteristics do not change by the time. Moreover, the superego is the moral aspect accordance with the norms of society. It is suggested for the next researcher might be maximize the literary study for this short story to another approach.                Key Words: Psychological Approach; Id; Ego;and Superego

Abstract

The objectives of this study were (1) to describe types of stylistic features used in Russian advertisement slogan and (2) to interpret the writer’s intention behind it. The method of the study was descriptive qualitative. The data was collected by using Russian advertisements consist of seven advertising slogans which taken from various of Russian advertisemens in internet. The data was analyzed by using stylistic analysis specifically by using stylistics features which limited in graphology, lexicology, syntax, grammar and semantics. From the analysis and interpretation, the stylistic features in Russian advertising slogan were clear and not ambiguous. They were conveyed the way they were. They knew their audiences well as it was shown from the advertisements above.  Semantically, from one to seven advertisements , metaphor often appeared. From Lexicology,  most of the words were easy to be interpreted by the consumers, only in the part of law advertisement was a bit difficult. Syntax that the advertising slogan used commonly in the form of declarative and  imperative sentences. Grammar used in the advertisements contained suitable tenses with the moment shown in that ads.Key Words:  1. Stylistic; 2. Russian Advertising Slogans
