Abstract

The implementation of inclusive education in higher education aims to ensure the fulfillment of the right of education for persons with disabilities. This study examined the implementation of inclusion at the Universitas Negeri Malang to obtain an illustration of the implementation of inclusive education. The three dimensions of inclusive education, including the creation of an inclusive culture, inclusive policies, and inclusive practices, become the framework for developing evaluation instruments. Respondents of this research were management staff, lecturers, education staff, and students. The creation of an inclusive culture and inclusive practice is highly rated by all stakeholders, with an average of 60. In contrast, the policy dimension deserves the greatest consideration as only students rated highly on the inclusive policy dimension. Many elements of management staff, lecturers, and education staff stated that they needed further information related to the inclusive policies.

Abstract

Education is a human right, everyone has the right to get educational services as a manifestation to achieve a better life. This study tries to analyze the guarantee of disability rights and inclusive school policies in a juridical and implementing way. Education guarantees for disabilities are contained in Law No. 8 of 2016 concerning Persons with Disabilities, Government Regulation No. 13 of 2020 concerning Adequate Accommodation for Students with Disabilities and Permendikbud No 70 of 2009 concerning Inclusive Education. Malang City has designated 57 public/private elementary schools, and 16 public/private junior high schools as inclusive schools. The City of Probolinggo has designated 16 public/private elementary schools and 6 public/private junior high schools as inclusive schools. The policies in these two areas are based on the principle that schools should not refuse students with disabilities, after a prospective student registers, the school prepares for inclusive classroom learning. The weakness of the implementation of inclusive education in these two areas is the unavailability of adequate learning facilities and the availability of qualified special assistant teachers. So that to achieve the success of inclusive education policies, it is necessary to support infrastructure and human resources of educators that match the educational background with the required competencies.

Abstract

Down syndrome (DS) is a condition that occurs due to an abnormal number of chromosomes which is characterized by the presence of an additional chromosome. A child diagnosed with DS has three distinctive characters, namely having a low Intelligence Quotient (IQ), physical and mental limitations and having a weak immune system. Overweight and obesity are nutritional problems that often occur in people with DS, so it is necessary to study how the health risks that can be experienced by DS sufferers with obesity and how to overcome or minimize these risks. This Systematic Review study was conducted using the PubMed/Medline, Science Direct, and Google Scholar search databases. The search was limited to articles in peer-reviewed journals and literature reviews, which were written in English and Indonesian between 2012 and 2022. The study results showed that more than 40 percent of obesity occurred in children with DS. Obesity in people with DS can increase the risk of other health problems such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) in adults with DS. In addition, dyslipidemia, hyperinsulinemia, NAFLD, Alzheimer's and tumors, and coronary heart disease are frequently reported in obese DS. Therefore, it is necessary to prevent nutritional problems by parents which includes parenting, feeding practices, and eating patterns. In addition, physical activity is needed for children with DS, especially for those who suffer from obesity. Fulfillment of nutrition and a healthy lifestyle throughout pregnancy is also needed to ensure the health of the child born and reduce the risk of having a baby with DS.

Abstract

The involvement of PWD students with learning difficulties in the field of entrepreneurship should be encouraged, starting from the educational institution level. Interest in entrepreneurship needs to be nurtured early during their admission to the learning institution, together with support from the Entrepreneurship Training Unit of the institution. It should also be instilled within the programs by offering them courses that are related to entrepreneurship to train and attract their interest in getting to know more about entrepreneurship while studying at the institution. The government's initiative has been implemented through the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) by encouraging the development of curriculum and entrepreneurship courses in higher learning institutions. This initiative aims to provide exposure, awareness, skills, and knowledge related to entrepreneurship, cultivate entrepreneurship in students, and subsequently produce graduates who venture into business as a future career. According to the Progress Report of the Plan of Action for People with Disabilities (PWD) 2016–2022, the number of PWD trainees participating in the Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) programs is still unsatisfactory due to the different levels of their disabilities. Therefore, it is recommended that different types of skills and entrepreneurship training be offered to PWD students with learning difficulties based on their abilities. In addition, the PWD policy that was formed strongly encourages them to get involved in entrepreneurship, which also prioritises equality rights that have opened up opportunities for PWD to get involved in the business. However, in general, the policy formed is not specified according to their PWD category. Therefore, according to their ability, Selayang Community College has provided systematic entrepreneurship courses in the Culinary Basic Certificate Programme for PWD students with learning difficulties. This study was conducted to examine the effect of entrepreneurship courses taught as a motivator for them to venture into business as their source of income. PWD students with learning difficulties taking the entrepreneurship courses at Selayang Community College were interviewed using a set of interview questions that had been developed. The recorded interview data were then categorised and translated into word form. The main factor based on the results of the interview data is the effect of learning entrepreneurship courses as a motivator for them to venture into business. Most respondents are interested in venturing into business and becoming entrepreneurs, continuing the legacy of the family business, and seeking experience working with other entrepreneurs (20). While other respondents have not yet decided to venture into business, 83 percent of the survey respondents had a high interest in getting involved in the business after their graduation.

Abstract

Children with hearing impairment have difficulty conveying what they want to express by speaking because of speech and language development barriers, so they can only express it through speech in a minimal voice. This study aims to determine the effect of using role playing to improve the articulation ability of children with hearing impairment, on the grounds that conversations with friends during role playing can improve their expressive language skills (articulation skills to communicate). Research using role playing for children with hearing impairment to improve their articulation skills is successful because intensive oral communication exercises can make children train their lip muscles so that later they will get used to speaking/articulate when communicating with people who can hear. Researchers recommend role playing can be used as an effort to improve the articulation ability of children with hearing impairment.

Abstract

This study aims to explore aspects that support and hinder the development process of self-management skills for visually impaired children in order to minimize stereotypic behavior that can interfere with the learning process in special schools. There are 30 visually impaired children as the subjects of the research. Data were collected through surveys, semi-structured interviews and they were analyzed by using content analysis methods. The results showed that the cause/inhibitory aspect included a slight stimulus that could be caused by a lack of socialization and social isolation so that the visually impaired seek additional stimuli through repetition of behavior, limited physical activity, and inadequate support/assistance from parents/teachers. While aspects that support the development of self-management for the visually impaired in minimizing stereotypic behavior are the support of school and college facilities, support from peers, and increased awareness of teachers, parents and academics on the important role of self-management for them.

Abstract

Hearing impairment students have limited vocabulary and have difficulty understanding abstract terms, which affects learning the concept of a plane solid figure that they know at school. Deaf students tend to have difficulty perceiving objects from a certain point of view and understanding the relationship between these objects in a particular space. These difficulties affect students' spatial abilities and require special handling in the form of learning-oriented to the learning process, not learning outcomes. The learning process itself can be determined by information systems such as the basis of cybernetic theory and supported by information technology-based interactive learning media. Therefore, this study aims to develop augmented reality media based on cybernetic learning theory to stimulate valid and practical spatial abilities of deaf students. The research and development model carried out in this study is the Borg and Gall model, which has systematic and descriptive steps for practical problems in teaching through applied research. Researchers collected data through validation questionnaires and student response questionnaires. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively and quantitatively. The augmented reality media developed here can be said to meet the criteria of validity and practicality based on the results of the product feasibility test. This media has also proven to be a solution in helping teachers to stimulate the spatial abilities of deaf students through a meaningful learning process determined by a technology-assisted information system
