Abstract

Abstract

Food borne disease is a disease with symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea and vomiting. The main cause of FBD was food contamination of Staphylococcus aureus. Jarak pagar (Jatropha curcas Linn) leave is a plant that have antibacterial activity against S. aureus because it contains saponin, flavonoid, and tannin. This research aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of the ethanolic extract of Jatropha curcas Linn. leaves, formulated them as gel hand sanitizer, and evaluated the antibacterial activity of the formula. The sample was collected, determined, and extracted with ethanol 70% using maceration, and the phytochemical screening conducted to the concentrate extract. The antibacterial activity test conducted by well diffusion method with concetration 50, 100, dan 150 mg/mL. Then the effective extract group has formulated to gel hand sanitizer. The gel hand sanitizer formula tested the antibacterial activity and physical properties by organoleptic, pH, stability, and spreadablility. The result showed that the extract with concentration 50, 100, dan 150 mg/mL has inhibition zone diameter was 9.9, 15.7, and 16.4 mm, respectively. The gel hand sanitizer of Jatropha curcas Linn extract was formulated by using 100 mg/mL concentration of extract. The gel was physically stable and had inhibition zone diameter was 15.6 mm

Abstract

Dandruff is an anomalous condition characterized by excessive exfoliation of the horny layer from the scalp. The leaves of the water henna plant (Impatiens balsamina L.) are one of the natural ingredients that have anti-dandruff properties, so they can be used as an active ingredient in making dandruff shampoo. The water henna leaves were extracted using the maceration method with ethanol 96%. Apart from the active ingredients, shampoo also has an important component, namely surfactants. The surfactant used in this study was a combination of sodium lauryl sulfate and cocamide DEA. The purpose of this study was to optimize the surfactant formula of sodium lauryl sulfate and cocamide DEA in water henna leaf extract shampoo. This research was a laboratory experimental research. Formula optimization was done through the Simplex Latice Design (SLD) method approach by making eight formulas. All formulas were evaluated for their physical properties including the foam height test and pH test. The data obtained were processed with Design Expert® software. Based on the physical evaluation of the water henna leaf extract shampoo, the results of the high foam test were 10,025 cm and a pH of 6,12. The results of the acceptability test of shampoo preparations including the parameters of color, smell, texture and viscosity received a fairly good response with the acquisition of values 3,1, 3,3, 3,9 and 4 with information 1 (very dislike), 2 (dislike), 3 (quite like), 4 (like) and 5 (really like). The optimum formula for the shampoo consisting of 5% water henna leaf extract, 1,1863% sodium lauryl sulfate, 19,814% cocamide DEA, 3% CMC, 0,5% citric acid, 0,5% methyl paraben, 0,15% menthol and distilled water had physical properties that meet the requirements of a good shampoo preparation.

Abstract

Gel handsanitizer wich is sell in the market today is mostly alcohol-based. Repeated useas a handsanitizer can cause dryness and irritation skin. An option is, we can substitute an alcoholinto lemongrass oil (Cymbopogon nardus). There are three steps of the test, a preliminary test of oilconcentration, a test of the physical properties of the gel preparation and a modifi ed replication test.Based on the preliminary test, citronella essential oil can kill Escherichia coli bacteria at a concentrationof 5% and reduce Staphylococus aureus at 10% of concentration. The test of spread for gel in thephysical test is between 5.5-6 cm with pH 7-9 and the adhesion is 1 second. The modifi ed replica testshowed a signifi cant decrease in the number of bacterial colonies at each concentration formula ofthe three test groups. This signifi cance indicates the inhibition of bacteria caused by the use of handsanitizing gels. Based on the organoleptic test and antibacterial test of hand sanitizer gel a chosenconcentration is 10%. This concenrtration was liked by the public and could inhibit bacterial growth.

Abstract

Senggigi village community has limitations in obtaining information about health, one of which is DAGUSIBU. DAGUSIBU is a way to get, use, store and dispose of medicines properly. The aim of this socialization was to inform about DAGUSIBU to the community so that medicines can be used rationally. The method used in the socialization is the delivery of material and direct examples related to the use of medicines that require special methods. The participants were very enthusiastic to attend the socialization, as evidenced by the many questions related to DAGUSIBU raised. This socialization increased participant’s knowledge about DAGUSIBU, they understand how to get, use, store and dispose of medicines in the right way.
