Abstract

In Kurikulum Merdeka, English becomes one of the compulsory subjects at elementary school level after being abolished in the previous curriculum. This is a challenge in itself for teachers in elementary schools. This is because English subjects in elementary schools are usually taught by each class teacher. Based on the results of observations in three elementary schools in Sukahaji District, Majalengka Regency, class teachers experienced difficulties in delivering English materials to students. Therefore, this service community aims to provide English language learning training based on the Kurikulum Merdeka. The targets of this service activity are elementary school teachers in Sukahaji District, Majalengka Regency. This training was carried out through focus group discussions regarding English language learning models for young learners based on Kurikulum Merdeka, textbook reviews, and basic skills training related to pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar. At the end of the activity, teachers were grouped and asked to prepare teaching modules that were relevant to Kurikulum Merdeka. Based on the design of the teaching modules prepared after this training activity, the learning models used are more varied, such as the use of discovery learning models, project-based learning, problem-based learning, and inquiry learning. Apart from that, the existence of additional references apart from application-based or web-based textbooks is an added value regarding the digital literacy possessed by teachers.

Abstract

Virtual learning implementation obtained more exposure along with the pandemic situation in Indonesia. The drastic shift taken by the government policy made all formal institutions moved into the full-online course after trusted ordinary, face-to-face classroom routine for years. The purposes of this study are to reveal students' experience and possible challenges in implementing virtual learning at English Education Study Program. The method used in this research was qualitative design with a case study approach. The instruments of this research were questionnaire and interview. The results showed that students enjoyed more flexibility in learning and spent less time and energy to reach campus. They found the course quite challenging to cope with, but students experienced virtual learning as the necessary option in a pandemic situation. The most prominent challenges in this system are infrastructure-related (gadget, internet  connection) and learning arousement.

Abstract

Blended Learning has become one of the most commonly used ways of classroom learning, one of which is used in English language learning due to its dual component, which integrates Face-to-Face classes with virtual learning to offer students a variety of methodologically organized materials and resources. In this era of digitalization, teachers and students have changed the way the educational process is viewed as new technologies have been implemented and teachers have to propose new ways of working to display materials that complement English learning in the classroom. The purpose of this research is to obtain clear information about the effect of blended learning model to improve students' learning outcomes and its role in the learning process, especially in English subjects. From the results of the study, it can be seen that the average value of learning outcomes in the experimental class has increased significantly, where the average value of posttest learning 71.8 is greater than the value of pretest learning 52.67, so that the blended learning model affects student learning outcomes more than the conventional model. In this study, it is clear that the blended learning model is able to provide changes in student learning outcomes, so that the blended learning model becomes one of the learning models that can be used to improve student learning outcomes.
