Abstract

Abstract After more than a decade as an observer, Timor Leste’s application to become the eleventh member of the ASEAN has officially submitted on 4 March 2011. Indeed, despite being the youngest country in ASEAN, Timor Leste has already made substantial contributions to the region of South East Asia through its involvement in several ASEAN events included the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in 2005. The problem is that there are some doubts of its ability to fulfil all the membership obligations at this time. While Indonesia is actively sponsoring Timor Leste’s application for membership in ASEAN and strongly believes that this country is ready to becoming part of the ASEAN Community, some suppose that Timor Leste is not yet ready. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the position of Timor Leste in its attempts to join the ASEAN. The study employs qualitative analysis and utilizes some models of diplomacy and ASEAN charter in examining the efforts that Timor Leste has done in achieving full membership status in this regional organization. The data for the research was collected through secondary sources. The study concluded that Timor Leste has boosted its bargaining position in the last few years and its acceptance into ASEAN is only a matter of time.

Ennahda is the name of one of the political parties in Tunisia which initially moved within the Islamism ideological direction. But when Ennahda elected became the head of government in 2011, the party became more compromised with political reality around and set out the rational choice while determining its political attitudes and actions. In 2015, Ennahda formed a coalition government with electoral winning parties as well as political rivals from the pro-secularist group, the Nidaa Tounes party. Some of Ennahda's loyal supporters, their party's policy is seen as a form of betrayal of his own ideological values because its acceptation for the notion of secularism and those step is considered as a deviation from Islamic beliefs. Moreover, at the 10th congress on May 20, 2016, Ennahda, which was previously seen as a symbol of the Islamism party, issued an official statement that its party separate itself between religious and political activities. Therefore, this study aims to explain the reasons and factors that led to changes in political strategy that occurred in the Ennahda party in Tunisia. Abstract

This article discusses the development paradigm that focuses on human  or people centered development. Many development paradigms have been applied in many developing countries, but the results have not been satisfactory. During this time the various paradigms emphasize economic growth, equity of development, and others, but the distortion of development appears everywhere. For example, development by emphasizes economic-growth was followed by massive environmental damage. In addition, poverty is still a portrait of people in developing countries, although the country is experiencing high economic growth. In realizing a prosperous society free of poverty, a new strategy or development paradigm that emphasizes its human factors are needed. In this case, this paradigm discusses the importance of the human element as the 'core' of development itself. If human beings are capable, have sufficient knowledge, adequate skills by themselves poverty will be reduced. Therefore, this paradigm more implies that is a 'capacity building ' of human beings so that it can become the subject of development and not just as an object of development themselves. Capacity building can be achieved through social development that emphasizes elements of education, knowledge, and skills so that they can try or do entrepreneurship and open their own job opportunities. Many cases, various development paradigms that emphasize economic growth are not able to absorb the available labor so that many are unemployed. With the ability of human or people, they have will be able to open their own business and do not depend on the provision of employment from the government. In the end they are able to alleviate self-poverty.

Abstract

Chhattisgarh is a state in India which separated from the state of Madhya Pradesh in 2000. One part of Chhattisgarh is Koriya District which is located in the northwest corner. The district is one of the most densely forested areas in Chhattisgarh. The prevalence of deforestation and forest conversion is a fundamental problem in India which has caused resistance from various groups in society, especially the Koriya community, who live based on the forest. One of the organizations against illegal logging is Adivasi Adhikar Samiti (AAS), an Indigenous Peoples Rights Organization that focuses on health. Using the concept of eco-feminism, this study will analyze the reasons why AAS plays a role in dealing with the problems of forest conversion and illegal logging in Chhattisgarh.
