Abstract

Abstract

AbstractSa'o (traditional house) in Gurusina, Flores is a house that was designed based on the local wisdom of Ngadha tribe that is directly or indirectly constructed by considering thermal factors i.e., temperature and humidity, wind speed, and heat gain. The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between heat conductivity features of building envelope material towards the aspects of thermal comfort. Data gathered and analyzed through field measurements supported by structural physical figures. The research results show that first, when the study was conducted, the temperature in Gurusina exceeded the lower and upper limit of the average temperature that was considered comfort hot for Indonesians. This affects the high heat transmission through wall material so that the inside temperature is considered uncomfortable. Second, the use of half wall (exceeding 20% of the floor area) and the existence of open space around the building that has the potential to flow the wind with a speed of more than 2m/sc, can reduce the indoor heat temperature due to solar heat transmission from wall and roof materials. Key words: thermal comfort; building envelope; traditional house

Abstract

Traditional house (Sao) in Gurusina Flores is a building designed based on local wisdom by considering the concept of cultural sustainability, the balance of ecosystem (human and nature), and the concept of green building. One of the aspects that becomes the basic concept of environmentally friendly architecture and affects sustainability of a building is the concept of building a traditional house. This study aims to find the concept of sustainability applied by the Gurusina community as they build their traditional houses through cultural aspects that are believed to be inherited through the concept of inner space hierarchy, the space form, and the construction system. The research method is conducted through field observation, measurement, and interview. The results of this study reveal that traditional community of Gurusina has implemented the concept of sustainability in the form of cultural sustainability which has been applied in the phases of building Sao from planning, development and design, as well as construction. Nevertheless, sustainability aspects of the balance in ecosystem, the health and comfort and the waste reduction should also be taken into account in order to achieve the concept of total sustainability. Keywords: Sustainability, Vernacular, Traditional house, Gurusina Sao

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia is an earthquake-prone country. Almost all of the islands in Indonesia lie in the ring of fire of the world's earthquakes. Earthquake disasters often occur and cause a lot of loss, both property and casualties. However, until now, education for the public to be prepared for earthquake disasters is still inadequate. The community is always unprepared and only resigned to fate in facing the earthquake. Earthquake disaster mitigation is generally the responsibility of the government, but the government itself cannot make effective efforts without the help of experts and the participation of the community itself. The PKM Earthquake Safety Training Program is aimed at the people of Kelurahan Bendung, Kecamatan Kasemen, Serang, Banten because based on the findings of the latest earthquake fault, namely the Baribis Fault, the area has the potential for a large earthquake to occur. This program aims to educate the people there about prevention efforts before an earthquake occurs, what to do when an earthquake occurs, and what to do after an earthquake occurs. It is hoped that the knowledge provided will be useful, and the people there can be prepared for earthquake disasters, so that loss of life and property due to the earthquake can be diminished.
