Abstract

Tourism is one of the promising business sectors, if local people can see well the potential available around their neighborhood. With the position of the country of Indonesia which is located on the equator which causes diverse types of flora and fauna, as well as the archipelago's topography providing a stretch of both coastal and cultural diversity available, it is no wonder that tourism opportunities are still wide open to be developed. Labuan Pandan Village is a coastal village with 2 (two) dykes in the east, so that it becomes a magnet for tourists who want to see first hand the beauty of coral reefs and mangrove ecosystems. Tourism stretching has begun to be seen in the activity of tourism activists who joined a community called KOMPAK (Labuan Pandan Kreatif Youth Community). The concept of CBT (Community Based Tourism) has been started by the KOMPAK community since 2017 and of course since then the people in Labuan Pandan Village are involved in the tour activities.   This study aims (1) To examine the process of empowering local communities with the concept of CBT (Community Based Tourism), (2) Constraints faced by the community in conducting tourism activities with the concept of CBT (Community Based Tourism) in Labuan Pandan Village. This research method uses descriptive method with a qualitative approach; the data used are primary and secondary. Primary data obtained from interviews and observations. The results showed that: (1) Community empowerment activities through village tourism with the concept of CBT (Community Based Tourism) went very well. This is indicated by the high level of community participation in existing tourism activities. This includes preparing accommodation, culinary, cultural arts performances and participating in educational learning activities (Educational Tourism), (2) Constraints faced by the community, that is, they have not mastered fluent foreign languages, so that they are quite inhibiting information disclosure.

Abstract

Abstract

Increasing penetration of distributed generation (DG) is imminent in the new age of power distribution networks, which are smarter than the conventional grids. They enable the integration of DG into the power distribution network. This paper presents an assessment methodology for determining the optimal capacity and location of DG to ensure high reliability in a radial distribution network. The approach considers cost and the impact of aging on the DG and network topology for interconnection using genetic algorithm, which is a robust technique with wide solution space searchability and can potentially find global optima with fewer chances of getting trapped into local optima. A case study is simulated using three different scenarios to evaluate the impact of DG interconnection on the 13.8 kV power distribution network. The scenarios comprise of situations without any DG, with DG interconnection and optimization of DG interconnection. The case study shows that the penetration of DG increases the reliability of the distribution network while reducing the expected energy not supplied (EENS). Although, the difference between EENS in the optimized DG integration and non-optimized DG integration is not very significant in a small network, however, it becomes apparent with the aging curve that optimized allocation of DG possesses significant benefits.

Abstract

This paper examined the relationship between FDI, imports, exports, terms of trade and investment in Pakistan for the period 1990-2015. Results show that an increase in all these factors will contribute significantly to FDI flows that may help the Pakistan’s economy. FDI has negative and significant impact on GDP. Exports have an insignificant effect that may imply that historically economy had led exports more than the exports led the economy. More important fact is that world economic conditions play a crucial role in the macroeconomic performance. When these conditions are favorable, not only the economy but also the trade grow. Though global financial crisis did not seriously affect Pakistan’s economy, Pakistan faced multifaceted challenges on external and internal fronts notably fight against extremism, energy crisis and uncertain external inflows. There is a need to pay more attention to domestic situation than to look abroad for financial assistance since FDI is not an unmixed blessing.
