Abstract

Introduction: Suicide is the second leading cause of death among teenagers and early adults. Suicidal behavior is related to the family support provided. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between family support and suicidal ideation among students at a university in Pekanbaru, Riau. Method: This research uses a descriptive correlation design using a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 100 respondents taken using the accidental sampling technique. The measuring instruments used were the Perceived Social Support-Family Scale (PSS-Fa) questionnaire for family support and the Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation (BSS) for suicidal ideation. Data analysis used the chi-square test. Results: It is known that the majority of respondents have family support in the good and sufficient categories with the same number, namely 39 respondents (39.0%). For the variable suicidal ideation, the majority of respondents were in the low risk category totaling 52 respondents (52.0%), while the remainder were in the high risk category totaling 28 respondents (28.0%) and very high risk totaling 20 respondents (20 .0%). The results of statistical tests show that there is a relationship between family support and suicidal ideation in students (p value 0.021 α 0.05). Conclusion: Family support has a significant relationship with suicidal ideation.

Abstract

Excessive Daytime Sleepiness (EDS) in students often occurs. EDS can be influenced by several factors, including excessive BMI, poor sleep quality, lifestyle, mental health and neurological disorders. This study aims to determine the relationship between sleep quality and body mass index (BMI) with the incidence of excessive daytime sleepiness in students. This research uses a descriptive correlation method with a cross sectional approach. The research sample of 237 respondents who met the inclusion criteria used a probability sampling technique, namely stratified random sampling. The analysis used was bivariate analysis using the Chi Square and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests. The results showed that the majority of respondents were women (90.7%), aged 19-21 years (63.3%), had poor sleep quality (87.8%), normal BMI category (62%), and the majority of respondents experienced Excessive Daytime Sleepiness EDS (71.3%). The chi-square results of the relationship between sleep quality and EDS obtained p-value = 0.937 α (0.05) and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov results of the relationship between BMI and EDS obtained p-value = 0.274 α (0.05). There is no significant relationship between sleep quality and the incidence of Excessive Daytime Sleepiness (EDS) in students and there is no relationship between body mass index and the incidence of Excessive Daytime Sleepiness (EDS). It is hoped that the results of this research can be used as suggestions for students to improve sleep quality.

Abstract

The development of independence in preschool children (3-6 years) cannot be separated from the role of the family, especially the mother. One of the factors that influence a child's independence is the mother's age, mother's education, mother's occupation, mother's religion and mother's ethnicity. Therefore, this study aims to identify the relationship between maternal stimulation and the development of independence in preschool-aged children. The design of this research is descriptive correlational, the data collection tool is using the Pre-Screening Questionnaire (KPSP), data analysis is univariate and bivariate analysis, the sampling technique used in this research is purposive sampling. The population in this study were all mothers who had preschool age children in Payung Sekaki District, Pekanbaru City. The total sample in this study was 100 respondents. The results of the research were 55 mothers (55%) who received stimulation in the good category and 68 children (68%) who received stimulation in the appropriate category. The chi-square test results obtained p value (0.000) α (0.05), which means that H0 is rejected. It can be concluded that there is a relationship between maternal stimulation and the development of independence in preschool children.
