Abstract

The objectives of this study are (1) to examine the quality of learning with Open-ended Mathematical Modeling towards mathematical reasoning ability; (2) describe the achievement of mathematical reasoning abilities in terms of self-confidence. The research method used is a mix method with concurrent embedded design. The research subjects were students of 1st Public High School in Payung class Science of 11th grade. The quantitative research is true experimental research with Pretest-Posttest Control Group design. Quantitative data were tested with the z test, while qualitative data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that (1) learning with Mathematical Modeling with Open-ended approach gave good quality; (2) students with low self-confidence can estimate the allegations and check the truth of the statement well but cannot draw conclusions logically, students with self-confidence are able to check the truth of the statement, provide an explanation of the picture and estimate the allegation but still make a little mistake in drawing conclusions logically, students with high self-confidence can check the truth, draw conclusions, estimate allegations very well, but make a few mistakes in giving explanations from images, the indicators of giving explanations from images are the most difficult indicators to be achieved by students in all categories of self-confidence.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical creative thinking abilities based on mathematics self-efficacy of 8th grade students. The type of this study was a mixed method. The design of this study was sequential explanatory. The population of this study was 8th grade of SMPN 3 Temanggung which consisted of six classes. The data collecting techniques based on self-efficacy were taken 2 subjects for each category in a purposive manner. The result showed that the description learning of mathematical creative thinking abilities based on mathematics self-efficacy varied. This was showed from 3 students with high self-efficacy, 2 students obtained mathematical creative thinking abilities in the high category and 1 student in the moderate category. From 24 students with moderate self-efficacy, 6 students obtained mathematical creative thinking abilities in the high category, 13 students in the moderate category, and 5 students in the low category. From 5 students with low self-efficacy, 1 student obtained mathematical creative thinking abilities in the high category, 2 students in the moderate category, and 2 students in the low category.

Abstract

Information about students’ interest in learning mathematic SMP as a consideration when conducting managerial evaluations which is required by the teacher, and there is no standard assessment instrument. The purpose of the study is to produce guide book of the teacher and application on android phones about an assessment instrument of students' interest based on Android on mathematics learning at junior high school CPS model with a valid, consistent, reliable and practical. The data obtained at SMP N 4 Pemalang with research subject 128 students and 7 mathematics teacher. The instrument data collector in the interview guidelines, expert validaty sheet, and questionnaires. The study used a research and development. The development model modifies the 4-D model by Thiagarajan et al. Analysis of data using triangulation sources, validity, internal consistency, reability, and confirmatory factor analysis. The results of the study showed from examine the expert team, 35 item early instrument worthy trialled. The result of 1) 32 item valid, and consistent; 2) The number of component had four factors; 3) The total of variant percentage of interest to be explained by four factors amounted to 60.016%; 4) The reliability coefficient is 0.965. The result of practicality number of instrument for teachers is 95.429 with very practical interpretations. The result of practicality number of instrument for students is 97.1 with very practical interpretations. From the result data analysis, it can be concluded that an instrument for assessing the interest of android-based student in learning mathematics for Junior High School with a Creative Problem Solving model has been valid, consistent, reliable, and practical. Product result are expected to be able to assess students’ interest.
