Abstract

Abstract

The objectives of this study are (1) to examine the quality of learning with Open-ended Mathematical Modeling towards mathematical reasoning ability; (2) describe the achievement of mathematical reasoning abilities in terms of self-confidence. The research method used is a mix method with concurrent embedded design. The research subjects were students of 1st Public High School in Payung class Science of 11th grade. The quantitative research is true experimental research with Pretest-Posttest Control Group design. Quantitative data were tested with the z test, while qualitative data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that (1) learning with Mathematical Modeling with Open-ended approach gave good quality; (2) students with low self-confidence can estimate the allegations and check the truth of the statement well but cannot draw conclusions logically, students with self-confidence are able to check the truth of the statement, provide an explanation of the picture and estimate the allegation but still make a little mistake in drawing conclusions logically, students with high self-confidence can check the truth, draw conclusions, estimate allegations very well, but make a few mistakes in giving explanations from images, the indicators of giving explanations from images are the most difficult indicators to be achieved by students in all categories of self-confidence.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical creative thinking ability in terms of students learning independence in learning Creative Problem Solving (CPS) assisted by mobile learning. The design of this study is squential explanatory. The population in this study was grade VIII of SMP Negeri 6 Salatiga consisting of eight classes. Determination of the subject grouped based on the learning independence of students with high, medium, and low categories using purposive. The results of the study show that Creative Problem Solving (CPS) learning assisted by mobile learning with certain quality because at the planning stage all devices are used valid, at the stage of implementing Creative Problem Solving (CPS) learning assisted by mobile learning in minimal good criteria, and at the assessment stage effective of Creative Problem Solving (CPS) assisted by mobile learning. Description of mathematical creative thinking ability in terms of learning independence of students varies. This is indicated by the following results; from 10 students with high learning independence obtained 2 people with mathematical creative thinking ability in the high category and 8 in the medium category. From 15 students with moderate learning independence, the results are obtained 1 person creative mathematical thinking ability in the high category and 13 people in the medium category and 1 person in the low category. The result of the research show that from 3 students with low learning independence, all are having low mathematical creative thinking skill.

Abstract

The role of mathematics is to prepare students facing fast - growing challenges of 21st century. The required competence to master is such as critical thinking skill. This research aims to find out mathematics critical thinking skill pattern reviewed by cognitive styles and IQ on Discovery Learning with SPUR approach. This mixed method research used sequential explanatory. The population of this research consisted of seventh graders of Junior High School 2 Demak in academic year 2018/2019. The technique of sampling is purposive sampling based on cognitive styles and IQ of seventh graders from A class at Junior High School 2 Demak. The findings showed that mathematics critical thinking skills of students of categories, such as reflective, impulsive, slow and inaccurate, quick and accurate with normal, beyond normal and brilliant IQ levels showed various results. It was found reflective - impulsive, slow and inaccurate, quick and accurate with normal, beyond normal, and brilliant IQ levels whom in interpreting, analyzing, evaluating, and concluding did it very excellently, excellently, sufficiently excellent, and insufficiently. Thus, teacher must consider students’ cognitive styles in learning mathematics because there are several discrepancies of students’ problem solving ways.

Abstract

Problem-solving ability is one of the internal factors of students that can affect mathematics learning achievement. This study aimed to describe students' problem-solving ability pattern based on Locus of Control on Think Aloud Pair Problem Solving (TAPPS) learning model. This study used mixed method with concurrent embedded design. This study subjects were seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Jatibarang Brebes. Class VII-A students as an experimental group and class of VII-B students as a control group. Each Locus of Control category participants as qualitative study subjects. Quantitative data were tested using z-test and t-test, while qualitative data were analyzed descriptively. This study obtained data that: learning with Think Aloud Pair Problem Solving (TAPPS) model has a good quality for problem-solving abilities. Students with Internal Locus Of Control type can solve the problem properly until the re-checking stage. Students with Internal-External Locus Of Control type can solve the problem but still had difficulty at the re-checking stage. Students with External Locus Of Control type can only solve the problem at problem understanding stage, students had difficulty at planning problem-solving stage, carry out their problem-solving plans, and re-checking their answers.
