Abstract

UTILIZATION MANURE DEGRADED USING BLACK FLY LARVAE (Hermetia illucens L) SUBSTITUTING FISH MEAL IN RATION ON LOCAL GROWING CHICKENThe objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of local growing chicken fed ration containing manure flour degraded (MFD) by Larva of black fly (Hermetia illucens L). This experiment was carried out using a complete Randomized Design (RAL), consisted of 4 treatments and five replications in each treatment as follows: R0 = Rations with 15% fish meal + 0% MFD, R1 = 10% fish meal + 5% MFD, R2 = 5%  fish meal + 10% MFD, and R3 = 0% fish meal + 5% MFD. The variables measured were feed consumption, average daily gain and feed efficiency. Statistical analysis was done according to the procedure using analysis of variance. Results obtained in the research showed that treatments did not affected significantly feed consumption, average daily gain and feed efficiency of local grower chicken. Therefore, it can be concluded that MFD can be used as the candidate ingredient replacing fish meal in ration of the local grower chicken.Key words: Manure flour degraded, fish meal, black fly, kampong growing chicken

Abstract

PRODUCTION PERFORMANCE OF FEMALE QUAILS (Coturnix coturnix japonica) UNDER DIFFERENT LIGTH ILLUMINATIONS. The objective of this study was to evaluate the duration effect of light illuminations on egg production performance of female quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica). Total of 80 female quails at the age of 3 weeks old were used in this study. The total of 4 birds were raised in the cage of 40x30 cm. Birds were randomly put in the cage using completely randomized design for the four treatments consisting of cage without light illumination (R0), cage with light illumination during 4 hours per day (R1), cage with light illumination during 8 hours per day (R2), and cage with light illumination during 12 hours per day (R3). Variables measured were feed consumption, age at first laying egg, egg production and egg weight. Results showed that light illumination did not significantly affect feed consumption, age at first laying egg, egg production and egg weight. Therefore, it can be concluded that production management of female quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) did not need light illumination during 4, 8 and 12 hours per day. Key words: Female quail, Light illuminations, Production performance

Abstract

THE EGGSHELLS’ PHYSICAL CONDITION OF BROWN CHICKEN EGGS AT PINASUNGKULAN MARKET MANADO. A study was conducted to examine the eggshells’ physical condition of fresh-brown chicken eggs (table eggs) at the Pinasungkulan market, in Manado city. The variables taken were egg weight in three general size categories (small, medium and large) and eggshells condition (cleanliness, smoothness/ texture and color). The averages egg weight of the fresh-brown chicken eggs in three size categories made by egg sellers were 51.57 grams for small size eggs, 62.03 grams for medium size eggs and 70.68 grams for large size eggs, respectively. The eggshells’ condition values of fresh-brown eggs were from slightly clean to clean (3.58 - 3.82) on cleanliness; from slightly smooth to smooth (3.64 - 3.85) on texture; and from slightly faded to brown (2.79 - 3.85) on color. T-test paired was showed that the eggshells’ physical condition of small size eggs was better than that of medium size and large size eggs seen from their eggshells’ cleanliness, smoothness/ texture and their color, It found also that the egg seller in Pinasungkulan Market, Manado had not been carefully made and well standardized the egg size or egg weight categories. Keywords: brown eggs, eggshell, cleanliness, smoothness/texture, color.
