Abstract

Competence is a person's characteristic related to the best performance in a particular job. Farmers' competence is not the same between one farmer and other farmers, this is related to the support characteristics possessed by farmers. The Mekar Tani group in Cibanteng Village still operates cassava in the traditional way. The research aims to analyze the characteristics of cassava farmers, analyze the technical competence of cassava farming, and analyze the relationship between the characteristics of farmers with technical competence. The results showed as many as 63.30 percent of cassava farmers were old, 53.30 percent had low formal education, 60 percent of farmers had low cassava farming experience, 80 percent of farmers had narrow land area, 93.33 percent of farmers had high motivation in farming, and 36.67 percent support for facilities and high production infrastructure. Farmers' technical competency is low in cassava farming. Technical competence of farmers in cassava farming. Farmers' knowledge is high in farming. The attitude of farmers is high in cassava farming. Low skills of farmers in cassava farming. Characteristics of cassava farmers that show a real relationship with technical competence in cassava farming include farming experience, land area and the support of production infrastructure. Thus to develop the technical competence of farmers it is necessary to increase extension services in the field of cassava agriculture.

Abstract

Competence is the result of an empowerment process. Empowerment is a process that aims to provide power to the community or activities that make the community able to build themselves, able to work together. The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of breeders, counseling support, external environmental support, competency level, level of sustainability and analyze the factors that influence the competence and sustainability of beef cattle business in Oebkim Village, Bikomi Selatan District, Timor Tengah Utara Regency. The results showed that the factors influencing the competence of farmers in Oebkim Village were external environmental support. Farmers' competence is reflected by their ability in marketing. Market and capital institutions have not yet fully functioned in beef cattle business. Some farmers still have difficulty in accessing capital and business credit so that farmers are limited in increasing the scale of their business. The factor influencing the sustainability of the beef cattle business in Oebkim Village is the characteristics of the breeders. Characteristics of farmers are reflected by age and education. Competence does not affect the sustainability of the beef cattle business in Oebkim Village.

Abstract

The character of the farmer is something that lies in the nature that is contained in a person when someone implements and has courage. The purpose of this study was to analyze how the influence of breeders and livestock extension support on improving the managerial ability of beef cattle in North Oepuah Village, Biboki Monleu District, North Central Timor Regency. The type of research used is the sampling method carried out by purposive sampling. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire. The results showed the influence of breeders and extension support on the managerial ability of raising beef cattle in North Oepuah Village, namely education, training intensity, appropriateness of extension methods.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the characteristics of farmers and the effect of counseling support on the technical ability of raising beef cattle. This research was conducted in October 2019 in Fatoin Village and Manunain B Village, Insana District, North Central Timor Regency. The research was conducted at the Matani Farmer's Group in Manunain B Village with 14 members and the Ataubale Nunusili Farmer's Group in Fatoin Village with 16 members. The total respondents used in this study were 30 people. The types of data used in this study are qualitative data and quantitative data with the data sources used in the form of primary data and secondary data. Data was collected through observation and interviews with respondents. The results showed that the technical ability of the breeder was strongly influenced by the characteristics of the breeder (age, education, and experience) and extension support (method suitability, media suitability, and extension competence).

Abstract

Masuknya wabah penyakit demam babi Afrika (African swine fever/ASF) di Pulau Timor sejak akhir Tahun 2019 menjadi masalah besar bagi petani peternak babi. Penularan penyakit ini semakin meluas dan banyak ternak babi yang ditemukan mati dalam waktu singkat. Kerugian ekonomi akibat kematian ternak babi sudah tentu menjadi masalah utama berkurangnya minat bagi petani ternak di Dusun Kusi, Desa Oesena, Kecamatan Miomaffo Timur. Ternak babi yang biasanya dijadikan tabungan untuk kebutuhan keluarga menjadi hilang seketika. Kondisi ini terus diperparah dengan adanya pandemi Covid-19, yang semakin menyulitkan perkonomian petani peternak. Kehadiran Tim pengabdi dalam memberikan sedikit kepedulian berupa pemberian obat-obatan dan vitamin serta desinfektan ini sangat bermanfaat. Selain itu, kegiatan penyuluhan dan pelatihan pembuatan pakan fermentasi serta pendampingan yang diberikan juga menjadi penyemangat tersendiri bagi kedua kelompok ini untuk terus melanjutkan usaha peternakan ternak babi sebagai peluang usaha yang menghasilkan.

Abstract

Perguruan Tinggi sebagai pengemban Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi memiliki tanggungjawab terhadap peningkatan sumber daya manusia melalui transformasi ilmu dan inovasi teknologi hasil-hasil riset pada masyarakat, salah satu diantaranya adalah memberikan peningkatan kompentensi guru dan siswa SMK Surya Permata Eban melalui diklat pengolahan limbah hasil pertanian jagung menjadi pakan ternak babi melalui penerapan teknologi tepat guna. Teknologi tepat guna adalah teknologi yang menggunakan sumber daya yang ada untuk memecahkan masalah yang dihadapi secara berdayaguna dan berhasil guna untuk pelaksanaan tugas sehari-hari menjadi lebih mudah, murah, sederhana dan berdampak polutif seminimal mungkin dibandingkan dengan teknologi arus utama, yang pada umumnya beremisi banyak limbah dan mencemari lingkungan. Jagung merupakan komoditas pertanian yang strategis di Kabupaten TTU. Kegiatan panen jagung akan menyisakan limbah berupa batang, tongkol dan kulit jagung. Tanaman jagung memiliki banyak kegunaan. Pada umumnya tanaman jagung dimanfaatkan dalam industri pangan dan pembuatan pakan ternak. Meskipun limbah jagung telah banyak dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan pakan ternak, namun jumlah pemakaiannya tidak sebanding dengan dengan jumlah limbah jagung yang dihasilkan. Jika limbah tersebut tidak ditangani dengan baik maka akan berdampak terhadap terjadinya pencemaran lingkungan. Untuk itu dibutuhkan pengolahan yang tepat dalam mengolah limbah tanaman jagung jadi pakan ternak babi agar dapat berdaya guna dan dapat menopang perekonomian di masyarakat dalam rangka membentuk kemandirian ekonomi, melalui Guru dan Siswa SMK.
