Abstract

IbM'sactivities at SD Muhammadiyah aim to improve the professionalism of Muhammadiyah elementary school teachers through the transfer of science and technology that is useful in improving the quality of education in Kabupaten Kupang in particular as well as national education in general. IbM activities focused on media development materials and teaching materials using PAIKEM learning model and PTK training aimed at teachers of Muhammadiyah elementary schools in various fields or subjects. Professionalism for teachers in SD Muhammadiyah I and SD Muhammadiyah II Kupang need to be improved in order to run the teaching learning process in accordance with national education standards so as to produce graduates of students competing with other schools and teachers can carry out their profession by conducting classroom action research. The materials chosen in the activities include the implementation of learning models, how to develop learning tools, and the development of instructional media. The methods applied in the form of lectures on all training materials, demonstrations, assignments to participants, discussion (question and answer), assessment and evaluation of the ability of participants in accordance with the material presented and followed by mentoring activities as a follow-up of training activities. The success of IbM activities can be seen from the increasing understanding of teachers in analyzing a need for teaching materials or teachers have a broad understanding and insight related to how to develop and develop contextual based teaching materials. The ability of teachers in preparing classroom action research can also be said to experience an improvement after the activities of IbM in SD Muhammadiyah Kupang.

Abstract

Learning resources and learning models are the two main components that determine learning success. Of the many learning models, Problem-based Learning (PBL) is one of the most recommended in biology learning. The purpose of this content analysis was to identify the emergence of PBL syntax in junior high school biology textbooks. The population in this study were all biology textbooks for the VII graders, while the sample was three biology textbooks that are often used by VII graders in Surakarta. As the results, the averages of each PBL step emerged in the textbooks analyzed i.e. problem-oriented activity, organizing to collect data, assisting independent investigations, artifacts presentations, and analyzed/evaluated the process of overcoming the problem were 17%, 47%, 23%, 2%, and 11%, respectively. Thus, it can be concluded that the biology textbooks analyzed have applied PBL learning models, yet the proportion between steps is not balanced.

Abstract

In accordance with the paradigm of 21st century education, teachers are required to facilitate students with the learning process which addresses the improvement of students’ higher thinking skill. The community service which was conducted in  MTs Al Ikhlas Soe, East Nusa Tenggara was aimed at: 1) culturing as well as developing students’ literacy in school; 2) improving students’ capacity in literacy; 3) managing students’ knowledge and higher thinking skill, as considerable as 4) elevating teachers’ professionalism so that learning process can be more effective and efficient. The methods used were lecture, discussion, brainstorming, simulation, and assignment. The materials delivered were about the arrangement and development of literacy-oriented teaching materials. The product produced from the training was implemented in learning process on VII graders. This was aimed to observe whether there was an improvement gained after the training given. The participants of this community service were 13 teachers and 34 students of MTs Al Ikhlas Soe. The results showed that teachers’ skill in arranging teaching materials has been improved. Furthermore, students’ understanding about the concept or their knowledge related to the materials has been upgraded after experiencing the implementation of literacy-oriented learning.
