Abstract

Low Birth Weight (LBW) is the main cause of the high infant mortality rate, especially in the perinatal period. LBW is extremely susceptible to infection, a very big risk of experiencing problems when the baby grows up to adulthood. This study aimed to determine the association between high-risk expectant mother (mother's age, gestational age, maternal anemia, maternal nutritional status, and family socioeconomic status) with LBW. This research was a quantitative research with an observational analytic approach with a case control study design. The population in this study were all mothers who gave birth to babies in the working area of Somba Opu Health Center in 2020-2021. The sample in this study were 64 expectant mothers consisting of 32 cases and 32 controls taken by using a purposive sampling technique with the inclusion criteria of expectant mothers domiciled in Somba Opu sub-district having completed examination records. The association analysis used Chi Square test with 95% confidence interval. The results showed that there was a significant association between maternal anemia with LBW (p=0,003, OR=7) and there is no association between maternal age (p=0,305, OR=1,9), gestational distance (p=0,426, OR=2,8), maternal nutritional status (p=0,197, OR=2,3), and socioeconomic status of the family (p=0,238, OR=2,5) with LBW in the working area of Somba Opu Health Center, Gowa Regency in 2021. The researcher recommends that the expectant mothers routinely perform ANC in order to increase early detection of high-risk expectant mothers, and increase maternal nutritional intake by consuming balanced nutrition, taking Fe tablets, doing PMT for expectant mothers which can increase maternal Hb levels.

Abstract

Changes in sexual behavior among teenagers in Indonesia are very worrying. Premarital sexual behavior can have various negative impacts on teenagers. This research aims to determine the knowledge and perceptions of teenagers regarding premarital sexual relations in Gowa Regency. The data collection method used was in-depth interviews. The sample was selected using snowball sampling as many as 7 informants. Data was analyzed qualitatively. The research results showed that the informant's knowledge about reproductive health did not have a positive impact on the informant's sexual behavior, where the informant did not limit risky sexual behavior even though the informant knew the consequences of risky sexual behavior. The informant's perception regarding sexual relations behavior (intercourse) is to seek satisfaction, have fun, the partner must belong completely and also as an expression of affection and love. This study recommends the importance of parental supervision of teenagers' attitudes and behavior through intensive and quality communication without limiting children's rights to mix with their environment. Apart from that, it is necessary to increase the role of parents and religious preachers in providing the best solutions to the problems faced by teenagers using a persuasive approach.

Abstract

Salt is a dietary supplement and source of electrolytes for the human body. Salt contains iodine. Iodine is a trace mineral that must be present in the body to form thyroid hormones and is beneficial for the body's metabolism. Iodine deficiency leads to goiter disease at various stages, slows growth in children and adults, as well as lowers labour productivity. The purpose of this service activity is to find out the use of iodized salt in Halahalaya Hamlet, Kanreapia Village. This type of service is an observational activity with a population consisting of heads of households in 92 households in Halahalaya Village. Data on the use of iodized salt were collected through interviews and direct observation using questionnaires. The results of the service showed that out of 92 households, 87 households (94.6%) used packaged salt labelled iodine, 5 households (5.4%) did not use packaged salt labelled iodine, iodine test results of 12 households were white (13.0%). ), light purple iodine test results in 20 households (21.7%), dark purple iodine test results in 60 households (65.2%). The conclusion of the service is that the availability of iodized salt in Halahalaya Hamlet, Kanreapia Village is sufficient, but there is still a lack of community understanding of the use of good iodized salt, therefore cross-disciplinary cooperation is needed to a growing community knowledge.
