Abstract

One of the informal sectors that absorbs labors in Indonesia is informal work in the household. This job can absorb workers but having health problems and safety risks if they do not apply safe behavior. Factors influence safe behavior are knowledge and motivation. This study is to determine the relationship of knowledge and motivation to safe behavior in the informal sector female workers. This research is cross-sectional quantitative observational design. The sample are 45 workers. The independent variables are knowledge and motivation. The dependent variable is safe behavior. The instrument is questionnaire. Research data is analyzed by chi-square. The result of the study showed no significant relationship between knowledge and safe behavior (p=0,496>0,05). Chi square analysis showed there is no significant relationship between motivation and safe behavior with p=0.545> 0.05. This study gives insignificant results, so the next researcher can discuss more factors that influence safe behavior with different research methods so that they can enrich new findings in the field of Occupational Safety and Health, both of which later give significant or insignificant results. Therefore, this research is important to be published. The conclusion from the study is no significant relationship between knowledge and motivation to safe behavior.

Abstract

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH)  is an important aspect to pay attention to in the workplace. This is due to the workplace environment that has potential hazards and risks that can cause work-related accidents and diseases. Accidents and occupational diseases need to be prevented and minimized because they reduce work productivity and harm workers and business owners. The risk of accidents and occupational diseases also exists in the informal batik sector. One of the informal Batik sectors in Banyumas Regency is Batik Papringan. Papringan Batik workers have not implemented the OSH Standard Operational Procedure (SOP). This causes workers to experience health complaints such as coughing, itching, and musculoskeletal conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze occupational accidents and diseases with the Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) and its control. The research objective was to determine the hazards and risks of accidents and diseases due to the work of Batik Papringan workers. The method used is the HAZOP method. The results showed that the stooped and static sitting posture, exposure to chemicals from wax smoke and dyes and the absence of 5R (Ringkas, Rapi, Resik, Rawat, Rajin) were hazards that pose extreme risks. Risk control in the form of ergonomic work place and equipment design and compliance with the 5R and the use of PPE are the most prioritized risk controls. The conclusion from this research is that the implementation of risk control in the form of ergonomic work place and equipment design, fulfilling the 5R and the use of PPE need to be done continuously to prevent accidents and occupational diseases. Keywords: Accident, diseases, HAZOP, control,  batik

Abstract

An industry that has danger is Batik Papringan, Banyumas. Workers have not implemented Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) at work. It can be seen from the physical environment with poor lighting, workplaces that do not apply Ringkas, Rapi, Resik, Rawat, Rajin (5R), not using Personal Protective Equipment, unergonomic position, and feeling anxious due to decreased demand. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze occupational accidents and diseases and their control. The study took time in August 2020. The population was 200 people. The sample was obtained with the inclusion criteria, namely all Batik workers who were actively working until August 2020, while the exclusion criteria were workers who changed professions so that 190 people were obtained. The research design was cross-sectional with mixed-method analysis. The research was conducted using the HAZOP (Hazards and Operability Studies) sheet instrument. HAZOP sheet consists of job observation, hazard identification, Likelihood, and Consequences scoring, risk categorization, and control. The calculation results show that there is an extreme risk of three hazards (exposure to chemicals from wax, cloth dye, wood dust; bending attitude, static position; not applying 5R). The three extreme risks are respiratory disorders, dermatitis, fatigue, low back pain, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS), effectiveness, and efficiency of work decrease. The conclusion is that workers are at extreme risk. Employees need to be committed to risk management through disciplined risk control.
