Abstract

This paper aims to explore art therapy methods that are able to become one of the complementary media to improve the communication skills of children with autism; explain concretely the contribution of art flexibility as a complementary media in communication therapy for autistic children; and explain the integration of the principles of therapy. These three topics will be explored using a number of theories about art therapy that have developed, as research beginning on the development of methods of art therapy and art education for autistic children. The approach in this study uses the method of content analysis of the phenomenon of art therapy, which is implemented as a perspective to see the phenomenon of art education for autism in Yogyakarta, Indonesia in 2019. This study begins with a study of the development and patterns of art therapy which has been going on in Indonesia. Afterward, the current foothold of art therapy will be known, and able to explain the reasons related to the development of art therapy in Indonesia. The results showed that the models of art therapy and art education for autistic children in Indonesia did not include the development of art therapy, learning methods through play, and did not understand the empathy space as a learning space for autistic children. Art exploration has good potential to be developed as a method of therapy and education for autistic children. That is because, art has the flexibility and natural nature of children, namely playing and making a sense of comfort so that autistic children feel in one frequency with the teacher so that the educational and therapeutic process runs smoothly and optimally. The emergence of the concept of 3B (being, becoming, and belonging) in the space of empathy, increasingly claims that art cannot be separated in the world of learning in autistic children.Corresponding author: Muchammad Bayu Tejo SampurnoDOI: 10.24071/ijiet.2020.040209

Abstract

This Study examines the implementation of spectrogram and Sonic Visualizer tools in the performance analysis of classical music. Traditional methods of performance feedback often rely on subjective verbal criticism, which can be inconsistent and influenced by personal biases. This study highlights the limitations of these traditional approaches and the challenges posed by reliance on memory. Spectrograms and Sonic Visualizer provide objective, visual feedback that can reveal intricate patterns and details in musical performances not easily discernible through auditory perception alone. These tools offer precise feedback on pitch and timing, which is especially beneficial in educational settings. The study analyzes four key articles: Yasushi Ueda's investigation of tempo rubato in Chopin’s Nocturne Op.15-2, Cook & Leech-Wilkinson's guide to Sonic Visualizer, Garner's thesis on Schubert's Winterreise, and Gardiner and Latartara’s examination of Beethoven's "Hammerklavier" sonata. These studies demonstrate how features such as tempo and dynamic visualization, harmonic analysis, and beat detection aid performers in evaluating rhythmic accuracy, consistency, and interpretative choices. Moreover, the review identifies gaps in existing research, particularly the need for more comprehensive studies on the effectiveness of Sonic Visualizer across different classical instruments and its impact on performers' interpretative skills. The findings suggest that regular use of these tools can enhance performers' decision-making processes, creativity, and overall artistic growth. This study underscores the significant benefits of integrating advanced audio-visual tools into classical music performance analysis, providing a deeper understanding and more accurate assessment of musical interpretations.

Abstract

This research aims to understand the art discourse that is the foundation for developing modern fine arts in Surabaya. Art discourse represents the fundamental ideas behind the creation of artworks, which are developed and dialectically discussed within the context of the art ecosystem in Surabaya. The research design is based on an analytical, historical research method with a sociohistorical approach. The findings reveal the existence of continuity and change in art discourse from the Aksera generation (Academy of Fine Arts Surabaya) in the 1970s to the post-Aksera generations, namely the 1980s and 1990s generations. Three bases of art discourse emerged as the core expressions of aesthetics in modern fine arts in Surabaya during the 1970s to 1990s: 1. The discourse of nationalism (identity) underlies the art discourse of the Aksera generation; 2. The discourse of the market (commodification of art) becomes the main concern of the 1980s generation; 3. The social-political discourse serves as the platform for the art discourse of the 1990s generation. These three discourses demonstrate similarities and differences within the context of art discourse that evolved in modern fine arts in Indonesia.
