Abstract

Rendahnya minat baca menjadi permasalahan utama dan menjadi tantangan tidak hanya bagi pemerintah tetapi juga berbagai kalangan khususnya universitas dan pemerhati literasi. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan budaya literasi melalui pengelolaan Taman Bacaan di desa Kemiri Kecamatan Pacet Kabupaten Mojokerto. Program ini dilaksanakan untuk membantu memecahkan masalah rendahnya minat baca khususnya masyarakat desa. Pemberdayaan Taman Bacaan menjadi solusi untuk menumbuhkan kesadaran masyarakat desa tentang pentingnya membaca. Pengelolaan Taman Bacaan juga dibutuhkan untuk mendukung terlaksananya program literasi di desa dan untuk mewujudkan masyarakat yang gemar membaca.

Abstract

This study is aimed at narrating the implementation of literacy programme at an urban secondary school in Surabaya, focusing of how the school integrates and accommodates the concept of multilingualism (Java, Indonesian Language, English, French, and Japan) on its creative application and how the integration and accommodation of multilingual literacy is carried out on the day-to-day literacy practices. Drawing on qualitative data analysis gathered mainly through semi structured interviews with four teachers and two students and observations, the research findings suggest that school literacy programme is not only aimed at socializing and habituating the literacy culture within the school, but literacy programme facilitates spaces to accommodate the students’ creativity in the literacy practices through their participation, involvement and engagement in designing, managing and disseminating the school programme. It can be argued, therefore, that the literacy programme at the school transcends the expectations of the school in which the initial thought and expectation are only within the boundary of socializing and habituating the literacy culture within the school, but it transforms into more advance creative spaces for the students to learn languages and gain 21 century skills.

Abstract

Teachers as the tip of lance play important roles in the success of the implementation of school literacy program such as possessing positive perception of literacy practices. Recognizing the important roles of teachers in the implementation of literacy program in the schools, this study aims to investigate the teachers‟ perception toward the implementation of literacy program at a Junior High School in Surabaya. This study is designed as an interpretative qualitative approach. Primary data were obtained through open interviews and observations and supplementary data source included student journal. The data findings showed that teachers have positive perceptions on literacy program. They argue that school literacy program potentially enables to build up the students‟ good habits. Through the habituation of a thirty-minute reading before the class, it can raise the students‟ awareness on literacy - reading and writing. Moreover, the school literacy program benefits the students‟ competency in understanding long texts and can help them to be more critical and creative. In addition, instead of students who take advantageous from the literacy program, teachers are also equally benefited from exposure to daily literacy practices within the school. The teachers tend to follow the rhymes of the literacy practices which are marked by reading and writing activities. In this sense, literacy practices facilitate teachers to develop their practical writing abilities and increase their awareness to be the role model in the classrooms particularly in the literacy practices. This study emphasizes that literacy practices can be double blades, on one side it is beneficial for the students and on another side it is advantageous for the teachers

Abstract

This study aims to illustrate the challenges and opportunities of implementing hybrid literacy at Junior High School level in Surabaya. Drawing from amalgamation of interviews with ten teachers who are responsible and concerned with the literacy programme in their schools, classroom observations and documents analysis, the findings indicate that the potential implementation of hybrid literacy within the schools in Surabaya tend to be disrupted by several aspects, all of which are surrounding social and cultural aspect. Social aspect such as students’ social condition and school facilities are being the principal challenges in implementing hybrid literacy, whilst cultural aspect such as the school orientation to a particular type of literacy is also prominent to inhibit the implementation of hybrid literacy practices. This study, to some extent, is able to portray the dynamic challenges of hybrid literacy application in the school literacy programmes within the city as well as the potential sources which positively help facilitate the implementation of the future literacy programme, hybrid literacy. Although this study can be used as a reflection of the actor’s lens involved in the literacy programme in Surabaya, the data is limited to three schools. The future study, therefore, should anticipate involving more schools and participants (teachers and students) to get richer data findings in regard with the challenges and opportunities of the implementation of the programme. Abstract

The aim of this article is to discuss how children acquire the second language at school from psycholinguistic perspective. Second Language (L2) is a language that is acquired after a child has acquired the first language (L1). A child will grow up with a social environment and with a language he uses. If a child lives in a bilingual or multilingual society he may speak more than one language. But how can a child acquire a second language after the first language? As we know that language acquisition is not an easy process. It may be said it is a complicated process although humans sometimes are not conscious with this condition. Language acquisition according to Ellis can occur naturally or formally. L2 acquisition is also influenced by some factors such as motivation, age, formal presentation, first language, and environment. Abstract

Pemuda adalah generasi yang memiliki peran penting dalam proses pembangunan bangsa dalam bidang ekonomi, politik, sosial dan budaya, khususnya di sebuah desa yang disebut dengan Pemuda Karang Taruna. Tujuan dari dibentuknya Karang Taruna sebagai wadah bagi pemuda merupakan kendaraan bagi pembangunan generasi pemuda. Karang Taruna harus membuat kemajuan desa. Pelaksanaan pengabdian masyarakat tersebut melalui penyuluhan, sosialisasi dan pendampingan. Ada empat kreativitas Karang Taruna yaitu latihan drum band, turnamen olahraga, keterlibatan dalam kepanitiaan, dan pelibatan dalam setiap kegiatan di desa. Karang Taruna sebagai sebuah forum untuk memberdayakan generasi muda memiliki posisi strategis dan sangat dibutuhkan untuk menjawab masalah-masalah pengangguran dan mempertajam kreativitas pemuda-pemuda di Desa Bening, Kecamatan Gondang, Kabupaten Mojokerto. Pengembangan kreativitas dapat diakomodasi oleh kelompok-kelompok pemuda di Desa Bening.

Abstract

Peguasaan dan pemanfaatan teknologi untuk menunjang keberhasilan pembelajaran sudah menjadi keharusan dan tuntutan di era Revolusi Industri 4.0, terlebih di masa pandemi COVID-19. Guru sebagai garda terdepan untuk kemajuan pendidikan dengan demikian harus membekali diri dengan teknologi pembelajaran berupa Sistem Manajemen Pembelajaran atau Learning Management System (LMS) seperti Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, Telegram dan lain sebagainya. Oleh karena itu, artikel ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan tentang pembekalan penggunaan Telegram Quiz Bot sebagai sarana pembelaran materi Bahasa Inggris, khususnya materi menyimak. Pembekalan diberikan kepada para guru tingkat SMA baik Negeri maupun Swasta yang tergabung dalam Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) Bahasa Inggris di wilayah Surabaya. Quiz bot menjadi salah satu pilihan menarik bagi guru untuk mempermudah KBM secara daring serta meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran di masa pandemi. Hal itu karena Quiz bot memiliki beberapa manfaat lebih sebagai media pembelajaran materi menyimak yakni menyediakan sarana pembuatan soal pilihan ganda, fitur poling, deskripsi kuis, teks dan gambar, serta yang paling penting adalah audio. Selain itu, quiz bot mudah digunakan dan tersedia failitas audit di dalamnya.

Abstract

Artikel ini bermaksud menjelaskan bahwa bahasa iklan merupakan bentuk bahasa yang berbeda dengan bahasa komunikasi pada umumnya. Iklan memiliki gaya bahasa tersendiri di dalam menyampaikan maksud dan tujuan iklan itu agar dapat dipahami oleh konsumen iklan tersebut. Kajian ini mencoba memberikan gambaran tentang bahasa iklan ditinjau dari sudut pandang pragmatik yaitu hubungan antara bahasa yang digunakan dengan maksud yang disampaikan oleh pengiklan yang sering kali iklan disampaikan dengan sangat singkat dan padat sehingga konsumen yang menjadi sasaran iklan tersebut sulit untuk memahami maksud yang diungkapkan di dalam iklan tersebut. Selain itu kajian ini juga mencoba memahami maksud yang tidak terungkap dari iklan tersebut secara literal Deskripsi Alternatif :This article aims to explain that the language of advertisement is a language form that is different from the language form used in communication in general. Advertisement has its own language style in conveying the aims and goals of advertisement in order that it can be easily understood by the consumers of advertisement. This analysis tries to describe about language of advertisement seen from pragmatic perspective, that is, the relationship between the language used and the goals expressed by the advertiser in which frequently advertisement is conveyed shortly and compactly so that the consumers as the target of advertisement are difficult to understand the purpose conveyed in the advertisement. Moreover, this analysis tries to understand the implied meaning of the advertisement that is not expressed literally
