Abstract

This research discusses the collection development strategy at the Medan City Library and Archives Service during the Covid-19 pandemic, where the core of this problem is how library managers create strategies to optimize collection development activities that are hampered during the pandemic, as well as implementing policies to overcome prominent changes. at the Medan City Library and Archives Service during the Covid-19 Pandemic. The type of research used in this thesis is qualitative research with a descriptive approach, namely describing and describing the data and then analyzing the data obtained from the field so that the data and information obtained are explained without any engineering. The data collection technique for this research is through a process of observation, interviews and documentation. There were 4 informants in this research, consisting of the head of the library materials development and processing section, library staff, and staff in the field of library materials conservation. The results of the research show that the changes that occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic in the Medan City Library and Archives Service were reduced visitor hours, reduced government budgets for libraries, and collection development activities such as selection and procurement of library materials were hampered. This causes library managers to make strategies by reducing procurement, minimizing designated collection branches and making plans to focus on electronic collections.

Abstract

The research method used is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach that uses interviews to describe the data obtained by researchers directly, to obtain a clear and detailed picture of how the use of electronic books (e-books) by users at the library and archives office of Labuhan Batu district. The data collection techniques used in this study were interviews and observations. Furthermore, the researchers conducted interviews with 5 informants, namely the users at the Library and Archives Service of Labuhan Batu Regency. The results of this study indicate that the use of electronic books (e-books) by users is that they use electronic books to get references and their information needs such as doing paper assignments given by lecturers. Obstacles experienced by users, especially in unstable networks, lack of collections of books in the e-book, and according to them the obstacles are the lack of experts in the field of e-books so that e-books are not optimal and lack of socialization to users so that some users do not understand in browsing the e-book.

Abstract

This research discusses the strategies carried out by the Medan district court office library in increasing the availability of their collections in order to realize their vision and mission which includes fostering, developing and maintaining library materials in the special library. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method by describing, describing and describing the data and then analyzing the research results obtained from the field. The purpose of this research is to determine the strategy of special libraries in the Medan district court library in their efforts to increase the availability of collections that can be utilized by users. There were 3 informants in the research, consisting of administrative staff and the finance department who were also responsible for library management, then library management staff and library guards. The results of the research show that the library managers who manage the special library at the Medan district court office are not those from the library science department, causing a lack of special and in-depth attention to the library collections in the library. Even so, the strategy they use to increase the availability of collections is to maximize the budget as best as possible by adding collections related to law and also adding several collections other than that, such as collections of history books and biographies.
