Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate and assess parents' and teachers' views of the home-visiting program as a method of early childhood education during the COVID-19 outbreak. Exploratory qualitative research employed as methods of inquiry. Twelve resource persons were interviewed (3 teachers and 9 parents). The data revealed, parents and teachers perceive that using home visits has a number of benefits and drawbacks. The benefits are as follows: 1) more effective than online; 2) make learning materials easy for children to understand; 3) pique children's interest and excitement for learning; and 4) eliminate the need for parents to assist their children with their tasks. Meanwhile, the downsides include the following: 1) it was inconvenient for parents because they were needed to entertain teachers and other children; 2) some pupils couldn't study because home visits were far away from their homes.; 3) additional media and learning activities preparation; 4) additional time and energy was wasted; and 5) the risk of exposure to COVID-19 was increased. The researchers recommend that additional study be conducted with a larger and more diverse sample size in order to obtain a more complete picture of this issue. Abstract

AbstractChildren used their internal mechanisms, including faith, in coping and bouncing back after a disaster. In this paper, researcher examines the role of faith in building more resilient communities, and also how Islamic education at school can be used to help teach children to be better prepared for a disaster. The research suggests that Islamic education could be used to increase students hope after a disaster, to seek prayer as a source of strength and peace, to see the essential role of Muslim clergies in disaster recovery, and to see how some religious practices need to be understood in better ways. Qualitative narrative research was used as the method of inquiry with the primary source of data coming from interviews.  There are 27 child survivors being interviewed. All those interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed, then the transcripts were analysed to find any emerging themes. Abstract

As adults, we often believe that children are only interested with games and children’s ‘stuff’. However research has shown that children do indeed show a greater interest in the world around them, including about politics, elections, and democracy. If we need to teach children about democracy, what are the best methods of teaching democracy to young children? Narrative is considered as an effective medium to convey messages to children and discuss hard subjects. This paper is a theoretical exploration that looks at the narrative approach to teaching and learning about democracy with young children. The researchers has used a literature review to look at why narratives should be used, what narratives should be used and how to use narratives.

Abstract

Habituation is the most common used form of moral education in early childhood education in Indonesia. However, this method has been found to be insufficient in contributing fully to young children’s moral development. An alternative method currently being promoted is the narrative method which involves the use of stories and storytelling. These two techniques provide children with justification to do good deeds and allow them to be critical of their actions. This research examined the best practices of teachers in the use of narrative method for the Moral Education of young children. Best practices show how we can use them to improve the teaching of Moral Education among young children and can serve as useful alternative to habituation. The findings revealed that there are five ways in which the kindergarten use stories and storytelling in teaching and learning moral education for young children, namely: to repeat the story; to include clear example; to explain the story; to dramatize the story; and to modify the story.

Abstract

The transformation of IAIN (State Institute for Islamic Studies) into UIN (State Islamic University) cannot be isolated from discourses on identity, concepts, aspirations of the standard of Islamic education and its goal to incorporate the principle of integration of science. However, since the transformation of these institutions, the integration of science practice still appears at the normative-philosophical level and is not yet in the empirical-implementation domain. The aim of this study is, therefore, to reveal and explain the implementation of the integration of the science concept at the technical-operational level, which focuses on the curriculum design and learning process at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. The results of the study showed that these two universities have similarities in the concept of the integration of science and have almost the same objectives, i.e., decreasing the dichotomy of science between religious and general science. However, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang has a more organized and structured approach to the idea of integration, from theory and framework to the practice of curriculum design and the learning process.
