Abstract

The 2019 Indonesian Presidential Election is a democratic process for electing the President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2019-2024 period. Before the election was held, Indonesia's mass media was incessantly publishing news about presidential candidates, namely Joko Widodo and Prabowo Subianto Djojohadikusumo. As a retired army lieutenant general, Prabowo is known as a nationalist figure. This research aims to study Prabowo's image just before the 2019 Election in the online version of print media. We examine and compare the construction of Prabowo's image carried out by Tempo.co and Republika.co.id. We purposively select news published in Tempo and Republika online version from 4 to 5 November 2019. This research uses the qualitatively framing method by Entman to answer how the mass media carry out image construction. Results indicate that both media carry out a difference between construction. If Tempo tends to construct Prabowo's image as disrespectful, Republika tends to construct Prabowo's image as funny regarding Prabowo's "Boyolali Face" Remark. This study concludes that there are differences between the mainstream mass media and Islamic mass media in constructing Prabowo's image through their news. The different images constructed by the two media indicate that news construction or news framing is inevitable in the journalism field.

Abstract

Many scholars have conducted studies on the accuracy of the news media, such as newspaper, television, and magazine, but not online media. In fact, online media is a significant news media in the moment, especially in Indonesia. Online press companies are even the largest press companies in Indonesia compared to newspapers, radio, and television. Therefore, this study is conducted to measure the inaccuracies that occur in news in online news media. Researchers examined 63 online journalistic media that have been administratively and factually verified by the ‘Dewan Pers’ (Press Council). It uses a content analysis method by coding the headlines in Indonesian online journalistic media. This study finds online mass media categories based on the theme segmentation, namely: 1) general, 2) economics, technology, and business, 3) sports, 4) politics, law, and crime, 5) lifestyle and entertainment, and 6) regional. The results of this study indicate that the inaccuracy of news in Indonesian online media is high. Media with economics, technology, and business most often make grammatical errors. This study also finds that speed does not only has an impact on grammatical inaccuracies, but also on unbalanced news reporting, where the imbalance in Indonesian online media news itself is very high.

Abstract

The rapid development of the digital age has led humans to adapt new habits in communication. Communication activities are even very easy to do through digital platforms such as Instagram social media. Virtual communication activities conducted through halal culinary content are considered capable of creating information exchange. It is this exchange of information that makes participation happen virtually. Participation can not be considered as an activity without meaning, but when participation is done repeatedly, then the participation activity becomes a form of culture that has a certain meaning and interest. This research reveals virtual communication conducted by Muslim Instagram users who are actively producing kulier (Muslim foodgram) content through halal culinary content. The virtual ethnographic method was used by researchers to examine Henry Jenkins' theory of participation culture combined with smith's concept of researcher meaning. Based on the results of the study conducted for approximately eight months, researchers obtained data that virtual communication activities conducted by Muslim foodgrams are divided into several forms of participation such as affiliation, expression, collaboration, and circulation. not only a form of participation, researchers found that participation activities carried out by Muslim foodgrams through virtual communication occur continuously to form a culture. Participation culture formed from virtual communication activities include participation based on appreciation, participation based on existence, participation based on pleasure. The establishment of a culture of participation in virtual communication turns out to contain several meanings such as reputational interests, self-image, awards, hobbies, to careers. Budaya partisipasi yang terbentuk dari aktifitas komunikasi virtual meliputi participation based on appreciation, participation based on existence, participation based on pleasure. Terbentuknya budaya partisipasi dalam komunikasi virtual ternyata mengandung beberapa makna seperti kepentingan reputasi, citra diri, penghargaan, hobi, hingga karir.

Abstract

Communication is growing with the advancement of digitalization. This led to the emergence of behavioral construction in society in response to a phenomen. Various patterns of social communication are deliberately carried out to achieve certain interests, but in fact, social communication does not always run in a positive direction and benefit many parties. In the anti-vaccine community in some areas of Surabaya shows that social communication carried out in a negative direction is in the act of mass vaccine rejection. This is certainly interesting, because social communication that is done with manners, manners, and background emotions and solidarity actually leads to the act of constructing behavior. This study will examine digitalization and communication on the construction of anti-vaccine community behavior in the city of Surabaya. The approach taken is qualitative, while the ethnographic method is chosen to obtain relevant data on a daily phenomenon. The results of this study found that digital media in conducting intensive social communication was able to foster behavioral reconstruction. Sharing behavior that was initially believed to be true was deliberately spread, but with the existence of information in digital media, it is able to destroy the power of subjective reality that is created. Communication in digital media is certainly not the only factor, but with the intensification of social communication, social reconstruction can occur again and again.

Abstract

The changes in the historical text on Twitter are starting point of this research. The moment of the Heroes' Day commemoration on Twitter becomes the entry point to analyse these changes. Therefore, this study analyses historical text tweets at that moment by paying attention to the context surrounding the users. The study uses a content analysis method, emphasising a qualitative approach. Two data collection techniques are used to obtain accurate and faster details: manual observation and data crawling by Python program. This study found three dominant text variations. The first is a text containing a narrative about Bung Tomo, public information about the Hero, and the word "ex" (mantan -Indonesian) to commemorate users' relations. There are ten dominant words used in the three variations of the text.
