Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dalam mengembangkan perangkat penilaian berbasis KKNI terhadap pengajaran speaking di Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Universitas Negeri Medan. Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dan memahami perangkat penilaian yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan pengajaran speaking, menguasai tehnik penyusunan, dapat  mengembangkan perangkat penilaian yang tepat berbasis KKNI yang digunakan pada pengajaran speaking pada semester 2 di Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, serta mampu menggunakan perangkat penilaian tersebut dalam kegiatan pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menerapkan metode penelitian dan pengembangan.Peneliti mengembangkan perangkat penilaian berdasarkan hasil analisis kebutuhan. Mahasiswa ingin memahami dan mengetahui setiap descriptor penilaian pada mata kuliah speaking dan juga di dalam perangkat penilaian itu terdapat penilaian soft skill (sikap) diantaranya: keteladan, keaktifan, ketangguhan, tanggung jawab, dan team work.Perangkat penilaian ini menjelaskan kriteria penilaian secara rinci, sehingga mahasiswa diharapkan lebih senang dan tenang, karena dalam perangkat penilaian ini mahasiswa tidak hanya di nilai berdasarkan hard skillnya saja tapi juga soft skills nya. Hasil yang dicapai dari perangkat penilaian ini adalah bahwa mahasiswa dapat mematuhi dan memahami ketentuan dalam proses penilaian speaking, dan dosen dapat menggunkan perangkat penilaian berbasis KKNI yang telah disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan mahasiswa di Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Universitas Negeri Medan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perangkat penilaian pada mata kuliah speaking ini sebagai perangkat penilaian yang sangat baik untuk digunakan dalam keterampilan berbicara sesuai dengan kurikulum KKNI dan karakkteristik mahasiswa.

Abstract

 The objective of this study was to find out whether  using Famous People Model in writing descriptive  can improve students’ achievement in writing descritive text. It was conducted by using experimental research. The population of consisted of 4 classes. Two classes were taken as the sample by using random sampling technique. The class X-1 was as experimental group and X-2 was as the control group. The experimental group was taught by using Famous People Model, otherwise control group was taught by using conventional technique. The instrument for collecting data was writing test. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The result shows that Famous People Model has a significant effect on students achievement in writing descriptive text. The result shows that the t-observed is higher than t-table (3.102 > 2.024 (α-0.05)) with the degree of freedom (n) = 20. Therefore,Famous People Model significantly affects on the students’ ability in writing descriptive text.

Abstract

This study is aimed at developing teaching materials of oral language skill KKNI based of English Education Study Program at UniversitasNegeri Medan. The objectives of this research are to analyze the teaching materials of Oral Language Skills used at the 2nd semester of English Education Study Program and develop the appropriate teaching materials based on the students’ needs. Research and Development applied in this research and skills covered in oral language both listening and speaking. The results show that the teaching materials used in the 2nd semester at English Education Study Program is developed through implementing the simplification of R&D. The materials indicated low competency for the students after analyzing the questionnaires given. New topics are designed to answer the needs of the students. Generally, the existing English speaking materials are less relevant with the needs of 2nd semester students. In terms of topics, they are not suitable with the needs of the Lesson Plan which make the students are less motivated in learning English. The speaking materials needed by the students are relevant with their needs where the topics or contents used in the course book are relevant and useful in the learning outcome of this subject. The topics needed are: work pressure; juggling school, work, and family; taking care of environment; change and consequences, the importance of the past, machines, cycles, and processes, arts and sciences, nature, health, and individual and society.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to develop media in Teaching Writing Descriptive Text for grade VII of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Medan students. This study was conducted by using Research and Development (R & D) design through six stages; gathering data and information, analyzing data, designing media, validating by the experts, revising and final products. The subject of the study was grade VII of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Medan. The data were gathered by administering interview to English teacher and distributing questionnaire to 35 respondents to get the students’ needs. The interview and questionnaire result prove that the students need English media in teaching writing which can motivate the students to understand about the descriptive text. The product has been validated by an English lecturer and an English teacher with the percentage was 93,6%. The product was categorized as “Excellent” media in teaching writing descriptive text. The result of the products was presentation that contain in audio-visual media to be used in mastering the descriptive text writing. Keywords : Prezi, Descriptive Text, Research and Development (R & D).

Abstract

Abstrak Perangkat pembelajaran berbasis TPACK dan STEAM merupakan perangkat yang saat ini perlu dipersiapkan oleh guru terutama dalam kerangka Kurikulum 2013. Akan tetapi, masih banyak guru yang berlum terampil mengembangkan perangkat dengan mengintegrasikan TPACK dan STEAM dalam instrument pembelajaran dan pelaksanaannya. Program pendampingan ini dilakukan dalam sepuluh pertemuan dengan melibatkan guru-guru di Pesantren Al-Kautsar Al-Akbar Medan. Dua orang narasumber memandu Focus Group Discussion (FGD) terkait TPACK dan STEAM. Dalam tahap selanjutnya, guru-guru didampingi untuk merancang perangkat pembelajaran beserta pembuatan laman belajar sesuai bidang masing-masing. Pada tahap selanjutnya draft perangkat pembelajaran dan blog dipresentasikan untuk mendapatkan saran dan masukan. Setelah dilakukan revisi, kegiatan dilanjutkan dengan evaluasi dan refleksi, Hasil kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa para peserta merasa sangat termotivasi, pengetahuan mereka tentang TPACK dan STEAM meningkat dan mendapatkan keterampilan penggunaan teknologi pembelajaran. Kata Kunci: Pendampingan, Perangkat Pembelajaran, TPACK, STEAM Abstract Teaching instruments which are based on TPACK and STEAM are highly required in the context of Curriculum 2013. However, many teachers have not yet been familiar with how to integrate them in the instruments and the implementation. This accompaniment program was designed to train and guide teachers at the Islamic Boarding Schoold of Al-Kautsar Al-Akbar Medan. Two speakers were invited to lead Focus Group Discussion concerning TPACK and STEAM. It was then continued with the accompaniment sessions to design teaching instuments and teaching blog. The drafts of the instruments and blog were presented to obtain suggestions for improvement. After the revision stage, evaluation and reflection were done. The results showed that the participants felt challenged and motivated. They also said their knowledge of TPACK and STEAM increased. What was more interesting was that they admiited to have gained skill in using technology for teaching.  Keywords: Accompaniment Program, TPACK, STEAM, Teaching Instrument

Abstract

The aims of this research are to investigate the questioning strategy that teacher used and how the teacher applied the questioning strategy in teaching procedure text for the tenth grade at SMAS Primbana Medan.  Qualitative descriptive method is the method used in this research to achieve the research objectives.  The data were taken by observed the teaching learning process procedure text, interviewed the English teacher, and video recording in order to find out questioning strategy that the teacher used and how the application of the questioning strategy.  In the learning process of teaching and learning, teacher actively use question, the research outcomes   shown   that the teacher use Questioning Planning Strategy 12 times (26%) and Questioning Controlling Strategy 34 times (74%).   The teacher applied Questioning controlling strategy when asking individual students. Meanwhile, when asking the whole class or group of students, teachers use a combination of Questioning Controlling and Questioning Planning strategies.
