Abstract

This research purpose to find out improvement of the students’ speaking skills used social interaction at the eighth grade students of SMAN 5 Selayar. The design of this research used a classroom action research which consisted of two cycles. Each cycles consisted of three meetings. The procedure of this research in every cycle consisted of four phases They had plans to action, observation, and reflection Subject matter for the research of class were the pupils XI which consisted of 20 students. The instrument of this research used interview. The result of students speaking skills in terms pronunciation and vocabulary in D-test, cycle I, and cycle II had improved in different scores. The research demonstrated there were was a significant improvement of the students speaking skills used by social interaction models. This statement could prove by the students’ mean score of diagnostic test was 44, but it had increased to 62.6 in cycle I. And in Cycle II was 77.5. it means that the students’ speaking skills from cycle I to cycle II was classified successful. Social Interaction could improve the students’ speaking skills.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the challenges faced by teachers in implementing vocabulary games in the tenth grade at SMAN 7 Selayar. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method conducted with an English teacher at SMAN 7 Selayar to find out the challenges faced by teachers in implementing vocabulary games in classroom learning. This study uses checklist observations and interviews as instruments in data collection.The results of this research indicate that there are two factors that become a challenge for teachers in learning English in vocabulary games applied at SMAN 7 Selayar, namely internal and external factors, in which internal factors come from the teacher himself while external factors come from students. The teacher's internal challenges are the limited vocabulary of students and lazy students, while the external challenges of teachers are creative learning/teachers, and also limited learning time when using games.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out the correlation between students' visual learning style preference and vocabulary mastery at SMP Negeri 3 Sungguminasa. The design of this research is descriptive quantitative research. This research has two variables, students' visual learning style preference as an independent variable and students’ vocabulary mastery as a dependent variable. The population of this research is seventh-grade students. The researcher used random sampling to take the samples, which consist of 33 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used a questionnaire and test. The questionnaire used to measure students’ visual learning style preference, which consists of 15 statements. Then, the test is used to know students’ vocabulary mastery which consists of 20 questions. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Pearson analyzed Product Moment Correlation formula. The data analyzed by using SPSS 23 program for Windows. The result of this research shows that there was a medium correlation between students’ visual learning style preference and vocabulary mastery of VII grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Sungguminasa because the value of rxy = 0.468 on the correlation scale table (0.40-0.599) means in medium correlation level. As the findings showed, rxy > rtable = 0.468 >0.40 So, it can be concluded that there was a significant correlation between students’ visual learning style and vocabulary mastery at SMP Negerei 3 Sungguminasa
