Abstract

In this study, the authors focus on the reality of monogamous matrimony, through a study of the law and the meaning of matrimony in Catholicism and Javanese culture. About Javanese culture, the authors take the limitation of the discussion on the Panggih Pengantinculture. This research is conceptual research with a literature study. This study concluded that there is harmony between Catholic and Javanese matrimony. Following the Code of Canon Law 1056, the Catholic Church requires its followers to adhere to monogamous matrimony, while the Javanese (though not regulated by customary law) have hopes of having monogamous matrimony. They continue to uphold monogamous matrimony and view negatively the reality of infidelity, divorce, or polygamy. This can be seen in the Panggih Pengantin ceremony. The traditional wedding ceremony contains meanings and values that support the nature of monogamy in Javanese matrimony, namely giving love, justice, mutual cooperation and humility. The absence of offspring is not a reality that has to sacrifice matrimony. Married couples are still called to maintain the loyalty and holiness of the love that has been formed and blessed from the beginning, in order to achieve the goal of marriage – the welfare of husband and wife. Keywords: canonical Law; javanese culture; monogamous marriage Abstrak Dalam kajian ini, penulis mengambil fokus pada realitas perkawinan monogam, melalui pendalaman hukum maupun pemaknaan perkawinan dalam agama Katolik dan budaya Jawa. Abstract

In this study, the authors focus on the feeling of alienation experienced by covid-19 patients. Feeling alienated is something that pops up when they do the part. The methodology in this study takes a qualitative approach. The author tries to see the sense of alienation from a philosophical point of view; and how they deal with that sense of alienation. The author conducted in-depth interviews with several covid-19 survivors, complemented them with literature studies, and tried this phenomenon through the philosophy of relationality of Armada Riyanto, with a phenomenological approach. This study reveals the feeling of alienation experienced by covid-19 patients. This sense of alienation arises due to three factors, namely loneliness and loneliness, negative stigma on covid-19 patients, and their inability to express themselves. This study confirms that the relationship is a necessity. The nature of human existence is to be present together with others. In the context of this separation, relational (which is often considered to be lacking in quality) turns out to be a means of missing presence.
