Abstract

The oral cavity is a mirror of a person's health that can show local and systemic health problems. Dental and oral health problems, especially caries, periodontal disease, and cancer are reported as diseases and disorders in dental and oral health that are still experienced by the population in the world and Indonesia. It is known from a preliminary survey, that family members of WKRI community partner Ranting Birgitta have quite a lot of oral health problems but cannot freely come to the dentist for treatment during the pandemic. A total of 43 people (32 participants and 11 PkM teams) participated in this activity. The pre-test and post-test results attended by 29 participants showed a significant increase in knowledge by 1.2 times (p<0.001) of the material presented, with an average pre-test score of 54.66 and 78.10 for the average post-test score. Overall, the activity went smoothly. It is highly suggested that similar activities can be held again with a wider scope of participants.

Abstract

Living a healthy life as a senior is the desire of everyone. However, keeping an elderly healthy is not easy. There are many challenges to face, because the elderly are susceptible to a variety of diseases. As you age, your body undergoes many changes or aging processes, and the changes you feel cover the entire limb. Vascular problems such as hypertension and other heart problems are common. Not only that, the elderly are also at risk of suffering from bone diseases such as osteoporosis, which can be dangerous because it can result in bone fractures and inhibit the activity of the elders because they have to lie more. Osteoporosis is often associated with periodontitis, as both are diseases of the bone caused by inflammation and old age. Both osteoporosis and periodontitis have similar risk factors such as smoking, poor nutritional status, age and immune deficiency. Osteoporosis can be prevented by eating foods rich in calcium, avoiding smoking and alcoholic beverages, having regular and regular physical activity, and exposure to sufficient sunlight. Preventing osteoporosis can reduce the risk of periodontitis in the elderly. This community service (PkM) is held for the elderly living in Grand Depok City Depok Residential, West Java. It is hoped that these activities will raise awareness of the elderly in particular, and the general public of the importance of health. It is expected that osteoporosis gymnastics for the elderly can be performed on a regular basis at Posbindu Anggrek 3.

Abstract

The increasing number of elderly individuals in Indonesia, accompanied by rising health issues, particularly concerning oral health and its association with systemic conditions, is a notable concern. Community service activities in the form of education and training on oral health and its connection to systemic diseases among the elderly at Panti Werdha Wisma Mulia are expected to enhance awareness of the relationship between oral health and systemic conditions among the elderly and foster habits of maintaining oral health. There were 29 participants who were residents of Panti Werdha Wisma Mulia involved. Based on the pre-test and post-test results, there was an observable increase in knowledge among the participants regarding oral health, systemic diseases, and their interrelation. Furthermore, it is hoped that healthy lifestyle patterns, especially those related to oral health, will be established as they are closely linked to the systemic conditions of the participants.
