Abstract

Abstract

Dental trauma is often found in children of growing age due to poor psychomotor coordination, making them prone to falls. This can cause damage to the teeth and their supporting tissues, which can interfere with mastication, speech, aesthetics and the eruption of permanent teeth. The management of dental trauma in children is still poorly understood by parents and teachers, therefore an approach is needed regarding the first treatment of trauma to primary teeth. The choice of Community Service target at Kepodang preschool was due to a request from the school principal as the community leader. Education and training activities were carried out on Monday, March 4th 2024 for a total of 22 teachers and parents. The aim of this activity is to increase knowledge, motivate changes in attitudes and behavior in maintaining oral health, and provide learning about first care for trauma in primary teeth. An initial assessment of knowledge and attitudes regarding first care for trauma in primary teeth was carried out through administering a pre-test with multiple choice questions. The material given includes dental and oral health problems, prevention methods, as well as first treatment for trauma in primary teeth by using the power point text, discussion, and a simulation of how to brush teeth with songs. Evaluation was carried out through a post test with multiple choice questions. Evaluation of the post test results shows that there was an increase in test score. The results of this activity recommend continuing this training activity in kindergartens or other elementary schools, especially for teachers and parents

Abstract

Tooth development is a complex process involving the interaction between dental epithelium and mesenchymal tissues. IGF-1 plays a crucial role in regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and migration. Its significance is particularly notable during the proliferation and differentiation stages of root development, as well as in the stem cells derived from the apical papilla responsible for root pulp and dentin formation. IGF-1 exhibits osteoconductive potential in bone healing by modulating osteoclasts in bone resorption and osteoblasts in bone formation. Stem cells from dental pulp or apical papilla represent a mesenchymal stem cell or progenitor population that forms calcium nodules in osteo/odontogenic media. This study aims to elucidate the roles of IGF-1 and Let-7 in tooth morphogenesis, utilizing the PRISMA guidelines for data collection. A total of 12 literature sources were identified, with 3 articles published in the last 5 years. Only 5 articles were selected for inclusion in this study. Further exploration of IGF-1/IGF-1R/hsa-let-7c modulation in odonto/osteogenic differentiation holds promise for future tooth regeneration. IGF-1 enhances the size of tooth bud cultures, suggesting potential applications in genetic engineering for tooth morphogenesis. IGF-1 plays a crucial role in odontogenic proliferation and differentiation.

Abstract

This paper provides a comprehensive exploration of periodontitis, a persistent and multifaceted inflammatory condition impacting tooth-supporting structures. The authors investigate the intricate relationship between causative factors, local microbiota, and the host immune response. The disarrayed regulation of cytokines, specifically IL-1, IL-6, and TNF, is highlighted for its pivotal role in triggering or hastening periodontitis onset. The study delves into the host response, emphasizing the delicate equilibrium needed between the immune system and microbiota. The categorization of periodontal pathogenic bacteria, with a focus on the highly pathogenic Phorphyromonas gingivalis and its virulence factors, is explored. Antibiotic efficacy in the context of rising resistance is discussed, encompassing commonly used antibiotics and proposing alternative strategies like plant extracts and bacteriocins. The study advocates for comprehensive therapeutic approaches that integrate antibiotics with alternative methods to effectively address the complex nature of periodontal diseases
