Abstract

This study aims to find out students’ perception of English meeting club to support their speaking skill. English meeting club was a club or group of humans with common ambitions or interests in English. This study focused on the students’ perception of English meeting club to support their speaking skill. The subject of this study are 10 students of English department as participants. This study used a qualitative method, this study used interview as research instrument. The result of interviews, the majority of the students had positive perception about joined in English club. The student absolutely believes if English club could support them to speak English fluently. The student also had a perception through an English meeting club as a media to develop skills particularly in speaking, it could be one of the alternatives for those who need to learn and practice more about how to speak English well and it can also enhance their ability to speak English fluently.

Abstract

Listening is one of the four basic skills in learning a foreign language besides listening, reading, and writing. It has been taught since the students entered a junior high school, however, there are some difficulties faced by vocational school students to listen to the recording. After doing observation, some teachers say that they still have difficulties in teaching listening to students since students are not able to express what are on their minds because their lack of actual language. To help the teachers in teaching listening to students, teachers may use an interesting teaching method to present their teaching materials that also help them in creating fun class. One of the alternative methods is Audio-lingual teaching method. The objectives of the study were to explain the students’ ability to recognize word meaning in the context and to recognize the content of text.The design of the research used a collaborative classroom action research (CAR). This kind of research was designed by group which consisted of teacher and researcher from educational university. The place of this research was in SMK YAPIP MAKASSAR. The samples in this research were the students at the second year of class 2 Akuntansi 1. After conducting the research, the students’ means score showed the improvement in cycle 2. It is concluded that using audio-lingual could help to improve students’ listening comprehension.Keywords: listening comprehension, audio-lingual, recognizing word meaning and the content of the text, classroom action research

Abstract

Berdasarkan data statistik Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan (BPS Sul-Sel 2019) menyatakan bahwa data yang dikumpulkan untuk menginventarisir jumlah wisatawan mancanegara yang masuk dan melewati bandar udara Sultan Hasanuddin Makassar tercatat sebanyak 1.478 pada periode januari–juli 2019. Hal ini mengindikasikan bahwa jumlah wisatawan mancanegara yang berkunjung ke Sulawesi Selatan sangat tinggi peminat. Potensi objek wisata yang berada di Sulawesi Selatan sangat menjanjikan income daerah dan pemberdayaan penyerapan tenaga kerja untuk penduduk lokal. Kabupaten Bulukumba merupakan salah satu Kabupaten yang memiliki potensi kunjungan daerah wisata terbesar di Sulawesi Selatan. Dengan adanya objek wisata pantai Bira yang berpasir putih memiliki daya Tarik tersendiri untuk wisatawan mancanegara. Peran sumber daya manusia sangat penting terhadap pengembangan sektor pariwisata untuk mengstimulus masuknya lebih banyak wisatawan mancanegara dan investor. Pantai Bira sebagai objek wisata Pantai terpopuler di Sulawesi Selatan menjadi opsi nomor satu kunjungan oleh wisatawan mancanegara sehingga menjadi tantangan tersendiri untuk para pramuwisata muda di daerah tersebut untuk memperbaiki sektor pelayanan publik dengan menguasai Bahasa Inggris sebagai alat komunikasi dengan wisatawan mancanegara. Dengan rendahnya kemampuan penguasaan Bahasa Inggris oleh para Pramuwisata muda yang hanya dominan memandu pengunjung domestik maka perlu perbaikan dan pengembangan diri pada kemampuan Bahasa Inggris karena tamu mancanegara akan membutuhkan tenaga pemandu wisata muda utamanya saat melakukan snorkeling, diving, ke pulau-pulau di sekitar pantai bira. Luaran kegiatan PKM ini adalah terbangunya rasa percaya diri para paramuwisata muda dan keterampilan berbahasa Inggris menjadi lebih baik sehingga termotivasi untuk rajin berlatih menggunakan buku saku khusus pramuwisata muda dengan metode pattern practice dan pair practice conversation keduanya di pelatihan indoor dn outdoor.
