Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is a correlation between frequency of watching English movies and vocabulary mastery of SMAN 1 Bontonompo Selatan Gowa Regency. This study uses the descriptive method. The population of this research was the second grade of SMAN 1 Bontonompo Selatan Gowa Regency. The sample is 20 students by using purposive sampling in one class. In collecting the data, researchers used a questionnaire instrument to look at the frequency of students’ watching movie and vocabulary tests. The results of this study indicated that there is a significant relationship between the level of frequency of watching movies in English and the students' vocabulary mastery. It can be proved through the data and test the value of r-table where the value of r-test (0.358) is lower than r-table (0.444). The researchers concluded that there is a low correlation to the frequency of watching movies in English and the students' vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the influence of Top-Down Strategy (TDS) on students reading comprehension that focus on level of literal and interpretative of comprehension. The researcher applied pre-experimental method with one group pre-test and post-test. The sample of this research was class XI MIA 2 of SMA Negeri 10 GOWA which consisted of 30 students. The sample was taken by using purposive sampling method. The result of the research were the mean score of pretest in Literal (main Idea) score of pretest was 58.6 and post-test was 86.56. In sequence of detail the score of pretest was 56.4 and post-test was 92.6 with t-test value Literal is greater than t-table (13.26 2.45). Mean score of intrepretative in pretest was 63.63 and post-test was 82 with the t-test value is greater that t-table (8.34 2.45). The result of calculating t-test of the indicators in the students’-test (Literal and Interpretative) was greater than t-table 21.60 2.45. it means that there was significance different between before and after giving the treatment. Based on explanation above we concluded that using Top-Down Strategy is influence and improve students reading comprehension especially in literal and interpretative levels.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi pemberian keong mas (Pomacea canalicul)  pada pakan terhadap pertumbuhan dan sintasan ikan gabus (Channa striata). Benih ikan gabus yang digunakan berukuran 4 cm dan dipelihara pada akuarium berkapasitas 50 liter sebanyak 12 buah. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 4 perlakuan dan 3 ulangan. Perlakuan  A : 0% tepung keong mas, 100% tepung ikan;  perlakua B: 25% tepung keong mas, 75% tepung ikan; perlakuan C : 50% tepung keong mas, 50% tepung ikan; dan perlakuan D: 75% tepung keong mas, 25% tepung ikan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan keong mas pada pakan benih ikan gabus memberikan pengaruh terhadap pertumbuhan dan sintasan benih ikan gabus. Pertumbuhan mutlak terbesar dicapai pada perlakuan C 50% keong mas yakni sebesar 4.44 g diikuti perlakuan B 25% keong mas sebesar 4.00 g; perlakuan D 75% keong mas sebesar 3.63 g; dan pertumbuhan mutlak terendah diperoleh pada perlakuan A (kontrol) sebesar 3.37 g. Sintasan benih ikan gabus terbesar juga diperoleh pada perlakuan C yaitu 93.33%; perlakuan B yaitu 90%; perlakuan D yaitu 83.33%; dan terendah pada perlakuan A (kontrol) yaitu 76.67%.

Abstract

Tourist destinations In South Sulawesi have great potential for the global economic system that will invite a lot of foreign tourist activities. The role of education at university is the main buffer to produce qualified human resources in launching the wheels of tourism in this country. In teaching this course, there are still very few references based on local cultural wisdom therefore one of the reasons why the researchers raise the topic of empowering tourism objects in South Sulawesi in order to be able to develop this teaching material for students as prospective tourism actors other than being prospective teachers. A great EFL Instructional material should suit the students’ needs. The students' and lecturers’ impression is a crucial part of designing instructional materials. This paper reports the needs analysis of the students and lecturers in order to get the information about the students' and lecturers’ impressions of the existing materials on Tourism subject at a private university in Makassar. This research investigated the students’ needs by applying the survey method. This survey method was used to determine whether the local object materials meet the students’ needs in learning the tourism subject from a different perspective. This research utilized interviews and a questionnaire that were distributed to students and lecturers. This research contributed to designing further Tourism Instructional Materials Based on Local Objects such as syllabi, lesson plans, and coursebooks for university students

Abstract

Tingginya angka pemutusan hubungan kerja atau PHK di Kawasan perkotaan juga merambat pada industri perkebunan karet di Kabupaten Bulukumba. Hal ini terjadi dengan akibat pandemic covid 19 yang merambah semua dunia kerja dan tak lepas para pekerja perkebunan dan petani pada umumnya. Dengan bercermin pada kejadian ini maka tim pengabdian kepada masyarakat melakukan kegiatan pengabdian berupa sosialisasi budidaya tanaman karet sebagai penopang ekonomi petani pasca pandemic di kelurahan Ballasaraja Kecamatan Bulukumpa Kab Bulukumba Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan tahun 2021-2022. Tanaman karet dipilih dengan masa panen relative Panjang di kisaran 25-27 tahun dengan sistem panen perhari dan dimulai produktif di usia 4-5 tahun pasca tanam dengan tawaran omset mengiurkan 1 ton getah karet per hektar  dengan harga Rp 12.000 per kilogram bisa mencapai RP. 12.000.000 perbulan. Ini adalah penghasilan fantastis yang mengiurkan petani. System tanam, dan perawatan karet yang relatif mudah juga memberikan kemudahan pada para petani untuk menguji coba. Pada kegiatan pengabdian ini tim pengabdi melakukan sosialisasi mulai dari motifasi, cara pembibitan, pengolahan tanah, penanaman dan penyulaman, perawatan dan pemeliharaan, tumpeng sari dan pemupukan. Diharapkan kegiatan sosialisasi pembinaan budidaya tanaman karet ini efektif untuk membantu masyarakat terlepas dari jerat ekonomi akibat pandemic yang berkepanjangan di beberapa tahun mendatang.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the learning preference for English as a Foreign Language learners’ for speaking ability of Muhammadiyah University.  Since speaking is the most intense ability to use in communicating with others and it plays very important in a variety of language productions, talks can be in the form of discussion, speech, debate, argumentation, dialogue or conversation, storytelling and retelling. Language users orally use language to express their desires, feelings, thoughts with others, so that people can understand what is expressed. But the fact, the communication still encounters many misunderstandings where the problems may affect the mastery of accuracy, fluency, flexibility and comprehensibility of students. In addition, the role of Kolb  learning  style to  mastering the ability of the students  was investigated by fifty eight EFL learners participated in the study. They took a topic to discuss, and engage by an oral interview.In addition, the result of the analysis of the questionnaire significantly predicted that assimilator 44.82% as the abstract conceptualization have  and the most cognitive approach is making the biggest contribution compare to other style. This study has focus on need analysis result point out that four types of learning style has significant 0,05 is normal in terms of the learning outcome. These findings provide evidence on the role of Kolb’s learning style can foster the learners’ creative learning in speaking.

Abstract

The goal of this study is to determine the relationship between independent and dependent variables. To investigate the impact of the story face strategy and the concept mapping strategy on second grade students' reading comprehension at senior high school. This is an experimental study with a pre test and post test design. The research sample consisted of second grade students (2 Sains classes) during the academic year 2018/2019, and the purposive sampling technique was used. The effect of Story Face Strategy and Concept Mapping Strategy toward reading comprehension based on the data indicates that there was significant effect between data in pre-test and data taken from post-test of the students' achievement. The value of the test was highly significant showed as 19.088 and the t-table was showed as 2.093. The value score of t-test was quite higher than the t-table (19.088 2.093). It is concluded that the Story Face Strategy and Concept Mapping Strategy are effective in teaching reading skill to senior high school second grade students.

Abstract

Berdasarkan data statistik Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan (BPS Sul-Sel 2019) menyatakan bahwa data yang dikumpulkan untuk menginventarisir jumlah wisatawan mancanegara yang masuk dan melewati bandar udara Sultan Hasanuddin Makassar tercatat sebanyak 1.478 pada periode januari–juli 2019. Hal ini mengindikasikan bahwa jumlah wisatawan mancanegara yang berkunjung ke Sulawesi Selatan sangat tinggi peminat. Potensi objek wisata yang berada di Sulawesi Selatan sangat menjanjikan income daerah dan pemberdayaan penyerapan tenaga kerja untuk penduduk lokal. Kabupaten Bulukumba merupakan salah satu Kabupaten yang memiliki potensi kunjungan daerah wisata terbesar di Sulawesi Selatan. Dengan adanya objek wisata pantai Bira yang berpasir putih memiliki daya Tarik tersendiri untuk wisatawan mancanegara. Peran sumber daya manusia sangat penting terhadap pengembangan sektor pariwisata untuk mengstimulus masuknya lebih banyak wisatawan mancanegara dan investor. Pantai Bira sebagai objek wisata Pantai terpopuler di Sulawesi Selatan menjadi opsi nomor satu kunjungan oleh wisatawan mancanegara sehingga menjadi tantangan tersendiri untuk para pramuwisata muda di daerah tersebut untuk memperbaiki sektor pelayanan publik dengan menguasai Bahasa Inggris sebagai alat komunikasi dengan wisatawan mancanegara. Dengan rendahnya kemampuan penguasaan Bahasa Inggris oleh para Pramuwisata muda yang hanya dominan memandu pengunjung domestik maka perlu perbaikan dan pengembangan diri pada kemampuan Bahasa Inggris karena tamu mancanegara akan membutuhkan tenaga pemandu wisata muda utamanya saat melakukan snorkeling, diving, ke pulau-pulau di sekitar pantai bira. Luaran kegiatan PKM ini adalah terbangunya rasa percaya diri para paramuwisata muda dan keterampilan berbahasa Inggris menjadi lebih baik sehingga termotivasi untuk rajin berlatih menggunakan buku saku khusus pramuwisata muda dengan metode pattern practice dan pair practice conversation keduanya di pelatihan indoor dn outdoor.

Abstract

Kurangnya kemampuan berbahasa Inggris Supir Pariwisata di kota Makassar menjadi sebuah momentum fundamental Tim Pengabdian Masyarakat Unismuh Makassar dan UMI Makassar untuk mengadakan short course pembelajaran speaking English and practice untuk terkhusus supir pariwisata di Kota Makassar mengingat Kota Makassar adalah destinasi terkenal dibagian tengah Indonesia dan ramai di datangi wisatawan mancanegara. Nilai pendapatan supir parwisata kota Makassar akan sangat dipengaruhi oleh ketidakmampuan mereka berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris. Pengemudi pariwisata harus dapat berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris untuk membantu pengunjung asing yang berbicara bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa utama mereka. Oleh sebab itu supir pariwisata kota Makassar seharusnya memiliki kemampuan berkomunikasi baik dalam bahasa Inggris sehingga dapat membantu mereka dalam melaksanakan aktifitasnya aktif berkomunikasi dan bercakap dengan wisatawan mancanegara yang akan berkunjung ke kota Makassar pasca pandemic nanti apabila pemerintah telah membuka penerbangan luar negeri. Kegiatan pelatihan ini tiada lain di laksanakan untuk membantu supir pariwisata kota makassar dapat berbahasa Inggirs yang nantinya kan meningkatkan income mereka dan tamu mancanegara nantinya tidak mengalami miss communication dalam bercakap dengan supir pariwisata di kota Makassar untuk mengunjungi daerah wisata dan lokasi tujuanya. Metode yang digunakan untuk melaksanakan kegiatan pelatihan bahasa Inggris ini antara lain ceramah, tanya jawab, diskusi, simulasi, dan bercakap berpasangan atau kelompok karena kegiatannya berbentuk pelatihan. Maka Program pelatihan bahasa Inggris ini dilakasanakan selama empat minggu. Kegiatan ini terkhusus untuk pengemudi pariwisata kota Makassar dan memiliki jadwal pertemuan dua kali seminggu yang masing-masing berlangsung selama 60 menit di setiap sekali pertemuan. Adapun jumlah peserta yang ikut berpartisipasi yaitu para supir pariwisata kota Makassar sebanyak 12 orang. Materi yang di berikan dirangkum menjadi sebuah buku saku kemudian diberikan kepada setiap peserta meliputi salam, anka berupa (alamat, tanggal, waktu), menguasai perhitungan uang, menjelaskan objek lokal secara singkat, memberikan informasi tentang budaya dan adat istiadat lokal, mampu memberikan petunjuk, memberikan saran, mengucapkan terimakasih dan meminta maaf. Pemberian materi tersebut karena berdasarkan hasil data empiris yang digali dari hasil wawancara dari sejumlah driver yang sering mereka gunakan ketika bercakap dengan para wisman. Hasil pengabdian ini sangat membantu para supir pariwisata dan memberikan respon positif dan antusiasme dalam latihan percakapan dan interaksi menggunakan strategi bermain peran dan interaksi interpersonal dalam bercakap Bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

This study aims to provide English Village training for high school students and boat rowers at Rammang-Rammang World Geopark Tourism. This activity is expected to attract the enthusiasm of students and boat rowers to learn English as a foreign language. The researchers conducted a study in Salenrang Rammang-Rammang Maros Village. The population of this study amounted to 98 people, consisting of 20 high school students and 78 boat rowers. The cluster sampling technique was used in selecting samples with prior knowledge of English so that only 33 were selected as respondents, namely 20 high school students and 13 boat rowers. The instrument used by researchers in this study is a questionnaire. Questionnaires are used to collect information about current conditions, identify respondents' needs in learning English in English Village and find out the problems encountered in speaking. The results reported that 33 respondents expressed enthusiasm to welcome the program, and they were well motivated to join the training. They were also happy to empower English language training because English is essential to their work as boat rowers. The same goes for the students because they can increase their knowledge of English in addition to what they get from school.
