Abstract

In the current era, Indonesian people have begun to open their minds to eliminate negative thoughts about people who have tattoos on their bodies. This is due to the mixing of foreign cultures that have entered Indonesia, not even a few minors have the motivation to have tattoos on their body parts. This research analyzed one of the tattoo communities located in Jakarta named the RR Kakek Gaul Community. In order to help the researchers doing the analysis, the researchers used Semiotics concept from Roland Barthes and signs from Peirce. The sources were taken from the RR Kakek Gaul Community Instagram and YouTube accound which were more specific on two members from its community. The results of this study showed that the members of the RR Kakek Gaul Community tried to deliver messages of optimism in seeing future life and eliminating negatives from the non-tattoed people who underestimaed them. They sent those meanings through tattoo symbol they had.

Abstract

This article discusses the perception of widows in the stand-up comedy presented by Mega Syalshabillah. Stand-up comedy is a comedy performance art performed by one performer or who is familiarly called a comic. In her performances, Mega Syalshabillah always uses a theme close to the life of a widow. The depiction she did was a form of answering the negative perception that existed in the public's mind about a widow. In this study, the author will examine how the perception of widows in stand-up comedy delivered by Mega Syalshabillah. Researchers use data sourced from YouTube shows, and this is because the YouTube platform is very close and dominantly used as a means of finding information/watching entertainment by the public. The process for selecting YouTube views is based on the most significant number of views. In practice, the author uses the theory of perception proposed by J. Cohen. The theory of perception that the researcher used aims to see the views and perspectives of a widow due to divorce. Personal branding theory is also used in this study as a supporting theory, and it aims to answer how a comedian promotes himself so that the wider community knows it. The findings obtained from this analysis are that people always have a negative perception of a widow due to divorce; the community first generalizes the bad things about widow status.

Abstract

Infotainment has been a part of Indonesian mainstream media segmentation for a long time. Celebrities Divorce cases are one example of a storyline that Infotainment often covers with certain framing to gain more reaction from the public. This study aimed to uncover the framing within  Aura Kasih divorce cases that are being reported by Insert, one  infotainment channel in Indonesia. The researchers used Framing theory by Robert Entman. The dataset was taken from television and social media such as @inserlive, Insert infotainment, Intens Investigasi, and Trans TV Official. The result of this study concluded in several usage of framing that drives people to their own conclusions outside the information that those infotainment offers and proves the effect of said framing to influence the viewers perception and opinion.

Abstract

Film works can be created from various perspectives and production methods by teams in the film industry. Parasite is a South Korean movie present as a production-based film and it raises a big theme of lifestyle differences between social classes. Parasite Movie portrays a new perspective with an astonishing story and plot-twist in the context of film with the issue of social inequality in the modern era. Various awards were obtained by Parasite films on a national and international scale for its beautiful story. The data is collected from the scenes in the movie which later the data is connected with some theories. This study also aims to find out the literary meaning of the movie Parasite, specifically the representation of social class through some literary research.

Abstract

Stand-Up comedy is the new trend of Pop Culture. In Indonesia, the Stand-Up comedy trend has spread to all places, from the very west of Indonesia Island to the Papua. This research analyses the pop culture of stand-up comedy and the new creative industry in Indonesia, focusing on Raditya Dika, Ernest Prakasa, Cak Lontong, Dodit Mulyanto and Uus. Furthermore, this research explores the persona of each comic that represents their style of performance. This essay also aims to find out the difference in persona of Indonesian Stand-Up Comedy artists and how they come up with the persona. For the data, we choose YouTube platform to be analyzed. We analyze the presented materials, video’s thumbnails and the responses from the audiences. We use three theories during this research, which are Personal Branding Theory, Digital Media Theory, and Social Semiotics. The result shows that these comics are having different unique persona that sticks to themselves and make people recognize them.

Abstract

Indonesia is a diverse country, home to numerous tribes, religions, languages, and traditions. Each region of Indonesia has its own set of traditions. One of the most intriguing customs to observe is the customary marriage law, especially for Bataknese and Sundanese. They both have certain rules when they have to find their couple. They inherit their marriage custom for the sake of cultural identity. Thus, those marriage rules are represented in the Lamaran movie. In this scientific study, the author aims to analyze the portraits of Bataknese and Sundanese cultural identity towards their marriage custom in the Lamaran Movie. In order to help the author doing this analysis, Mise En Scene approach from Manon de Reeper and the theory of Cultural Identity from Stuart Hall are used for this study. The result of this study indicates that either Bataknese or Sundanese attempts to pass down their marriage custom as it influences their identity in the future.

Abstract

This research article is analyses the ineffectiveness of National Exams to be conducted specifically for the measurement for graduation that actually did not become the one to be a measurement tools as there are still school final examinations that may become other measurement tools for the student graduation. As there are idea of abolishing the national exams and replace it to other measurement for graduations, the author thoughts that there should be an effort on finding better measurement for graduation. Further, it explores more reason on why the National Exams became ineffective. The author takes this case in order to search for academic perspective in viewing the National Exams ineffectiveness and should be replaced to other measurement tools for high school graduation.

Abstract

In every human society, family bonds are absolutely essential. The most influential and persistent relationships throughout the developmental lifespan are those within families. Moreover, family can serve as a mirror for an individual's identity. Through social status, culture, religion, tribe, and tradition, individuals' identities within their families can be defined. This condition is depicted in the Wei short movie. In this scientific study, the author aims to analyze how the complex meaning of an identity represented in that movie. In order to help the author doing this analysis, Mise En Scene approach from Manon de Reeper and Cultural Identity from Stuart Hall are used for this study. The result of this study indicates that this film represents the complex understanding of Indonesian-Chinese family cultural context.

Abstract

This Journal outlines the efforts of BTS as a K-pop boy group to help to resolve the problem of Youth Mental Health, in which Korea itself has a background as one of the countries with the most mental health cases in the world. More deeply, in this study, the writer conducted an analysis of several forms of BTS activities that show their efforts in reducing mental health problems, in this case including; song lyrics in the BTS album, the social campaign they run with UNICEF, "Love Myself", and finally the public response to these BTS efforts. And in the results of this research, it can be seen that BTS does indeed have a positive impact through their songs lyrics and social campaigns. This can be seen from the response of the public who claimed to feel "healed", found motivation, and also forgot their problem after listening to BTS songs. In addition, in social media, it can also be seen how with the #BTSLoveMyself campaign, the users of this hashtag also provide support to fellow people with mental health problems.

Abstract

Stand-Up Comedy is a comedy genre where the person or the comedian presents material on their own stage, usually in front of a live audience, and using monologues on a topic. Stand-Up Comedy has developed with the times, nowadays not only men can play the role of comedians, but women can also make themselves into comedians and worthy. There are still many things that make female comedians treated differently or being underestimated. Female stand-up comedians are nowadays very popular among audiences or even those who want to become one. The purpose of this study is to provide an idea to the public that the profession of a female comedian is not detrimental to even some successful female comedians. Using the feminism and some cultural theories, this essay aims to find out the role of women in stand-up comedy industry and how they can freely speak up as a woman without being treated differently as men.
