Abstract

The Strengthening Character Education and Character through Story Telling Method with Darunnadwah Islamic Boarding School partners located at Jln. Gatot Subroto No. 55, Karangasih, North Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java is a community service program with the aim of strengthening the character education and character of students in partner locations due to the lack of understanding of the use of story telling methods in teaching and learning activities in schools. The method used is the lecture and discussion method. Pondok teachers are provided with structured material and the provision of several videos containing examples of story telling. This gives a positive influence in the form of new knowledge and skills, storytelling skills that are useful in teaching in the classroom. The results of this activity are, the enthusiasm or learning motivation of trainees should be appreciated and the teachers already have basic knowledge in applying story telling methods in strengthening character education and students' character and some techniques in reading stories in English. Abstract

Karya sastra dapat berbentuk prosa, puisi ataupun film. Film sebagai salah satu bentuk dari karya sastra pun dapat dikatagorikan dalam bentuk fiksi dan non fiksi. Pada penelitian ini, penulis mengangkat film bertemakan pluralitas dan budaya. Film yang diambil sebagai objek penelitian berjudul My Name is Khan. Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis tokoh dan penokohan yang terdapat dalam film ini. Penelitian ini diharapkan mampu menambah khazanah ilmu pengetahuan terutama sastra dan dapat menjadi referensi tambahan bagi peminatnya.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the influence of linguistic intelligence and parent’s role towards English achievement at private senior high school in Depok, West Java. The data for linguistic intelligence is taken from worksheet through test, meanwhile the data for parent’s role is taken from questionnaire. Then the data for English achievement is taken from the score of English in students’ academic record which is familiar called rapor. Based on the result of the data analysis, it is known that coefficient correlation (R) = 0,742 and determination coefficient is 55,1%. It means that there are significant and strong influence of linguistic intelligence and parent’s role towards English achievement. English is influenced by linguistic intelligence and parent’s role for 55,1%. Meanwhile, the rest 44,9% is influenced by other factors. Futhermore, the test of hypotheses through regression analysis make the result for regression equality Y = 44,93 + 1,050 X1 + 0,251 X2 . the result for regression equality significant test is got the score of Sig = 0,000 and Fobserved = 53,389 so Sig score < 0,05 And Fobserved > Ftable so Ho is rejected and H1 is accepted. It means that regression coefficient is significant. The conclusion is there are strong and significant influence of linguistic intelligence and parent’s role towards English achievement at private senior high school in Depok.Keywords: Linguistic Intelligence, Parent’s Role, English Achievement.

Abstract

One of the English skills which are important to be mastered by the students is writing skill. Writing is a creative and expressive process. Students need to explore their ideas and compose them into a good text. The objectives of this research are to find out types of error and the most dominant error writing using simple present tenses in a descriptive text.
