Abstract

Agarwood (Aquilaria malaccensis Lamk.) are now popular to be exploited by farmers as a healthy drink. This research was done to study the effect of the shape and size of the tea from agarwood leaves on the consumers acceptance and antioxidant content. Agarwood leaves tea made in three forms: whole leave, cutted and fine particle size. Agarwood tea from these three size of shape and size then were evaluated of their hedonic level at 0 day and after 2 months of storaged in room temperatur by 50 panelists. The antioxidant activity was evaluated on methanol extracts from the three kinds ofagarwood leaves tea by using DPPH method after 2 month of storage. The result of the research shows that the froporcle of agarwood leave tea was more liked by panelists followed by the cutted leaves tea and the whole leaves tea had the lowest value of the hedonic score. The same result was found on the agarwood leaves tea that had been storage for 2 months, in the term of aroma, color for aswell as taste. The hedonic score of arom, color and taste of agarwood leaves tea after 2 months of storage till more than 3,00. It showed that the agarwood leaves tea still was accepted by panelists. The result of antioxidant activity evaluation showed that the fine particle size of agarwood leaves tea had the highest antioxidant activity. The value of IC50 of the agarwood leaves tea from the whole, cutted an fine size leaves were 85,89; 150,01; and 73,02 ppm respectively. Keywords: Agarwood leaves, organoleptic, antioxidant activity, tea.

Abstract

People around the Park Tour (PT) Sibolangit develop many NTFPs on land owned. Therefore, this study aims to: (1) find out the types of NTFPs most used by the community, (2) to know the value of NTFPs products, (3) to know the contribution of NTFPs to the income of the community. This research was conducted by survey method and conducted in two selected villages namely Sembahe Village and Bengkurung Village, Sibolangit Sub-district, Deli Serdang Regency. Communities in both research sites developed and utilized NTFPs such as pecan, petai, duku, durian, jengkol, mangosteen, areca nut, nira (aren) water, ginger, temulawak, and others. Most of these NTFPs are commercial (sold). NTFPs that has the greatest potential of water sap. The economic value of NTFPs in Sembahe village reaches Rp. 967.529.300 / year or accounted for about 57.28% of total family income. While the economic value of NTFPs in Bengkurung village reached Rp 509,180,000 / year or accounted for about 65.57% of total household income.

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to calculate the amount of retention and penetration scores and to examine the stability of dimension and strength of rubber wood after conserving with boric acid preservative (H3BO3). The method applied in this research was hot and cold soaking . After a test sample was preserved with boric acid, then its retention, penetration, and ASE scores were calculated, and the examination of MOE and MOR was conducted eventually. In this research, the best concentrate was gained at treated concentrate 3 % for the retention score, penetration and ASE scores are 1.39 kg/m2, 0.89 mm, and 2.65 %. While the highest MOE and MOR score was gained at 0% concentrate (controlled) with 17619 kg/m2 and 210 kg/m2. The retention and penetration scores increased as the concentrate increased. But the distribution the preservative was able to decrease the strength of wood. Keywords : preservation, rubber wood, boric Acid, MOE, MOR
