Abstract

Reading is an activity that carried out by students because by reading they will get information and express their main ideas when joining courses such as reading comprehension. In order to express the idea, students should understand the content of text in reading, especially in the form of English. The researcher focused on the fifth semester of the English department at STKIP PGRI Bangkalan, because they did not fully understand the contents of the text so that it had an impact on teaching and learning activities in reading comprehension courses. The solution used is the Team Quiz strategy. This strategy is cooperative learning that addresses material, gives direction, gives questions and answers. The problems arising from the strategy are: there is a significant influence on the application of the Team Quiz method in improving the understanding of student texts in reading comprehension courses. The purpose of this study was to identify the significant influence of the implementation of Team Quiz strategies in improving the understanding of texts in reading comprehension courses. The method used by the researcher is using experimental Quasy in quantitative because the students consist of 50 in two classes which will later be made into two groups in the control and experimental groups. Based on the data obtained shows that in the control group with a total of 25 students obtained a score of 843 with an average of 42.15 and an experimental group with a total of 26 students getting a score of 1395 with an average of 69.75. This means that the experimental group scores higher than the control group. Because Ttes is greater than critical value which is 8.4> 2.093 or 0.05, so the alternative hypothesis is accepted and the null hypothesis is rejected. This shows that there is a difference in understanding of the text between students taught by using the Team Quiz strategy and those that are not. Then it can be concluded that there is a significant influence on the implementation of Team Quiz's strategy in improving text comprehension in the Five Semester students of the English department at STKIP PGRI Bangkalan. Abstrak Membaca adalah kegiatan yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa karena dengan membaca mereka akan mendapatkan informasi dan dapat mengungkapkan ide pokok atau gagasan disaat mengikuti mata kuliah seperti reading comprehension. Agar mengungkapkan gagasan maka mahasiswa harus memahami isi teks bacaan khususnya teks dalam bentuk bahasa Inggris. Peneliti terfokus pada Semester Lima jurusan bahasa Inggris di STKIP PGRI Bangkalan, dikarenakan mereka belum sepenuhnya paham tentang isi teks sehingga berdampak pada aktifitas proses belajar mengajar di mata kuliah reading comprehension. Solusi yang digunakan adalah strategi Team Quiz. Strategi ini merupakan pembelajaran kooperatif yang membahas materi, memberi arahan, memberi pertanyaan dan menjawab. Permasalahan yang muncul adanya strategi yaitu: adakah pengaruh yang signifikan penerapan metode Team Quiz dalam meningkatkan pemahaman teks bahasa Inggris mahasiswa pada mata kuliah reading comprehension? Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi adanya pengaruh yang signifikan penerapan strategi Team Quiz dalam meningkatkan pemahaman teks bahasa Inggris pada mata kuliah reading comprehension. Metode yang peneliti pakai dengan menggunakan Quasy eksperimental dalam kuantitatif karena mahasiswanya terdiri 50 dalam dua kelas yang nantinya di jadikan dua kelompok dalam kontrol dan ekperimental group. Berdasarkan data yang didapat menunjukkan bahwa pada kelompok kontrol dengan jumlah 25 mahasiswa memperoleh skor 843 dengan rata-rata 42.15 dan kelompok eksperimental dengan jumlah 26 mahasiswa mendapatkan skor 1395 dengan rata-rata 69.75. Ini artinya kelompok eksperimental nilai skornya lebih tinggi dari kelompok kontrol. Karena Ttes lebih besar daripada Tkritikal value yaitu 8.4 > 2.093 atau 0.05, sehingga altenative hipotesisnya diterima dan null hipotesisnya ditolak. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan pemahaman teks antara mahasiswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan strategy Team Quiz dengan yang tidak. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada pengaruh yang signifikan penerapan strategi Team Quiz dalam meningkatkan pemahaman teks pada mahasiswa Semester Lima jurusan Bahasa Inggris di STKIP PGRI Bangkalan.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to know the effectiveness of Speed Reading Technique in improving the Reading Comprehension of the Fourth Semester students of English Department of STKIP PGRI Bangkalan. This study used Quantitative research. The result of reading speed was the experimental group higher than control group using posttest. The conclusion is the English Department students of STKIP PGRI Bangkalan could use Speed Reading Technique in improving reading comprehension.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the study on the GI (Group Investigation) toward teacher to reduce students’ anxiety in speaking skill. The research design of the study was qualitative which focus on descriptive qualitative research. It involved the Vocational school students as the participants. The data were obtained through the observation during the teaching and learning process and an interview with the teachers. In this study, the researcher accomplished several steps to analyze the data, namely reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusion. The first research finding revealed that Group Investigation was used by the teacher and the students in the class and out of the class. The teacher utilized Group Investigation to reduce students’ anxiety in speaking skill toward teachers’ response. Meanwhile, the students used Group Investigation model to give corrections and suggestions on their friends’ speaking in pairs or groups. The second findings revealed that the students gave positive responses toward the use of Group Investigation on speaking. The students said that Group Investigation is a practical model, develop students’ speaking skill, and interesting medium which make student enthusiastic. It also developed the students speaking ability, and able to motivated the students in speaking.

Abstract

Pada usia dini, anak- anak akan dengan mudah memperoleh pelajaran bahasa Inggris teori second language acquisition. Terkait teknik dan strategi pengajaran, perlu diadakan sesuatu kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dengan tujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan Peningkatan pendidkan bagi guru- guru di tingkat Taman kanak- kanak Insan Teladan yang terletak desa Remen Jenu dikota Tuban adalah suatu contoh lokasi pelaksanaan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat yang di bawah naungan Yayasan Insan Teladan Tuban. Hal ini amat dipandang perlu untuk mengetahui kemampuan bahasa Inggris bagi guru- guru di TK insan teladan tersebut. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk : 1) memberikan pelatihan tentang pengajaran English for the young learner; 2) meningkatkan motivasi guru- guru di Tk Insan Teladan di bidang bahasa Inggris; 3) mengembangkan ilmu dalam bidang pendidikan bahasa, 4) meningkatkan kemampuan SDM dalam pengajaran. Metode yang dilakukan yaitu pelatihan, pendampingan dan evaluasi. Metode pelatihan merupakan upaya mendidik dan melatih mitra agar mampu memahami pelajaran Bhasa Inggris.Hasil di capai adalah : 1) meningkatkan keprofesionalisme seorang guru; 2) memiliki kemampuan dalam bidang bahasa Inggris; 3) mengembangkan model opembelajaran terhadap murid- murid di TK. Insan Teladan. Dengan dilakukan pengabdian kepada masyarakat diharapkan bisa memberikan manfaat yang sangat besar bagi guru- guru di Tk. Insan Teladan.

Abstract

The real research was The Effectiveness Extensive Reading Strategy on the students’ ability in reading comprehension was conducted at The Fifth Semester Students of STKIP PGRI Bangkalan as subject because they have gotten some problem to comprehend the text in Extensive Reading course. In solving their problem, the researcher tried to overcome by introducing Extensive Reading Strategy, because Extensive Reading is one of the strategies that can used to teach vocabulary and extensive reading can enhance student vocabulary, it needs the process of extensive reading in order that students can read more and more. The research was done from Jan 2nd to April15th2023. The population of The Fifth Semester Students in academic year 2020/2021 was 30 students, which consists one classroom. One class were taken as the sample of this research. The experimental quantitative research was applied in this research. The quantitative design, researcher used one class to be experimental group and control groups. The facts showed that T- critical (T- c) value was higher than the t-table on the level 2.024. Therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected and alternative hypothesis was accepted. So, the researcher concluded the alternative was accepted that there was any significant Effectiveness Extensive Reading Strategy on the students’ ability in reading comprehension. The students difficulties of using the Extensive Reading Strategy on the students’ ability based on the minimal passing grade the students that 30 points or 30% was low did not get pass the minimal passing grade and the students got above passed of the minimal passing grade 70%, it means that there was The Effective Extensive Reading Strategy on the students’ ability in reading comprehension was succeeded.

Abstract

The insufficient vocabulary of students often leads to their reluctance in applying English language skills. To address this issue and encourage active usage of English, it is crucial to focus on vocabulary development through effective learning practices. In this context, the researcher sought a solution to enhance writing skills and promote a deeper understanding of word meanings. The chosen approach involved incorporating an engaging and enjoyable medium, namely the Puzzle game, as a means of facilitating vocabulary growth. The Puzzle game, specifically the Word Search Puzzle, was selected as it not only serves as a game but also captures students' interest by sparking curiosity about hidden words. In a Word Search Puzzle game, players search for concealed words in provided boxes, guided by word clues. These words may be arranged vertically, horizontally, or diagonally within the grid. The study involves a sample of 20 students selected from the entire population. Utilizing SPSS 22 for calculations, the results indicate statistical significance, leading to the conclusion that the Word Search Puzzle game is effective in enhancing vocabulary. This finding underscores the proven efficacy of the Word Search Puzzle game as a learning medium, demonstrating its capacity to augment students' vocabularies. Consequently, teachers can consider integrating this method into their teaching practices to facilitate effective vocabulary instruction.

Abstract

Ombul is the name of village which is located in the Arosbaya- Bangkalan Madura sub-district. The people in the village of Ombul have a livelihood by farming, traders, porters and overseas migrants (TKI). Community awareness about children's education is very lacking, this is due to the lack of information on technology from outside which is very minimal. The lack of motivation that exists in every family is very influential, especially the family environment and the surrounding community. Therefore, we, as PKM proponents, are planning a work program, namely Tutoring and Reading Cottages which synergize with the village administration and nearby schools to help people who have children to become students to participate in the program. With this work program, it is hoped that the village community will be able to better understand and increase self-awareness of the importance of education. The results achieved are: 1) increasing the ability to learn a material according to the level of education; 2) have the ability to read a sentence and 3) assistance is still needed so that it can develop and be followed up by partners with the closest school
