Abstract

Reading as a means of independent learning plays an important role for students. First semester students of Islamic Economics Department as prospective Islamic-based economists have a major contribution in building the Indonesian economy. The quality of their ideas is also determined by the quality of their reading ability. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine reading interest, favorite types of reading, and barriers to reading interest for students majoring in Islamic Economics in first semester IAIN Tulungagung. This study uses a quantitative approach to the type of survey. Data collection techniques using a questionnaire. Descriptive analysis technique was used in this research data analysis. The subjects of this study were 113 students majoring in Islamic Economics FirstĀ  semester IAIN Tulungagung. The results of this study indicate that (1) students' reading interest in Islamic Economics first semester IAIN Tulungagung tends to be at a moderate level, it can be seen that 52.2% of students like to read and 7.9% of students say they really like reading; (2) novels are the most popular reading material for Islamic economic students in first semester IAIN Tulungagung; (3) Several factors inhibiting interest in reading students majoring in islamic economic first semester IAIN Tulungagung are laziness, lack of motivation, difficulty in obtaining reading materials, and environmental factors.

Abstract

Writing scientific papers is important for the development of the teaching profession. One of the most popular scientific papers by the teachers is the results of classroom research or commonly known as CAR (classroom action research). CAR is useful for improving teacher performance and fixing problems in the classroom. CAR that has been prepared by the teacher has not been maximally published in the form of a journal. In fact, the results of this scientific publication can be used for the benefit of school accreditation and benefit of the public usage, especially the cognate teachers. Therefore, it is important to carry out technical guidance on the preparation of CAR and scientific publications for MI Al Ishlah Tiudan teachers. The method used in this research is Participatory Action Research method. The implementation of technical guidance for the preparation of CAR and scientific publications shows that the majority of teachers at MI Al Islah Tiudan Gondang have received guidance on the preparation of CAR, but there are still many who do not understand the actual CAR because the guidance only provides material. In this technical guidance activity, all participants seemed enthusiastic and had been able to prepare a good CAR draft. All participants are also ready to continue the development of their draft and prepare to publish it in a journal.

Abstract

Teachers need to equip themselves with the ability to develop learning media, especially those which are based on computer technology. The purpose of this public service activity is to explain technical matters related to the making of digital books by Indonesian language teachers. Then, to explain the obstacles to the making of digital books by Indonesian language teachers during the technical workshop activities. This public service activity uses the PAR (participatory action research) method. This method is aimed that Indonesian language teachers add the insights and be able to practice the making of digital books using the Flip PDF Professional application. Participants of this technical workshop are Indonesian language teachers from the MI, SMP/MTs, SMA/MA/SMK levels of 20 people. Based on the needs analysis, information was obtained that Indonesian language teachers were not optimal in the making of learning media, especially digital books. This is caused by the digital books used so far are in PDF format. The results of the public service show that the participants can follow the activities well. However, there are several obstacles during the activity, especially connectivity limitations while installing the applications or using the applications because they require internet access.
