Abstract

Background: In neurological diseases, brain tumor is the second leading cause of death after stroke, of which the most common types of brain tumor is meningioma. There are many factors affect the prognosis of meningioma patient, including age, gender, location, and histopathological type of tumor. This study aimed to explore the distribution of meningioma based on age, gender, location of the tumor, and its histopathological type during the period of 2010–2013 in Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital Bandung. Methods: This study was a quantitative descriptive study and data were collected from medical records of Department of Pathology between January 2010-December 2013. Age, gender, location, and histopathological type of meningioma were acquired. Results: There were 277 eligible cases of meningioma with an average number of cases per year were 69 cases. The ratio of men to women was 1:6.4.  Meningioma was most commonly found in the age group 4150 years (38.9%), and mostly located in convexity (55.96%). The most common histopathological type of meningioma was meningotheliomatous meningioma (70%).Conclusions: The frequency of meningioma is 6 times higher in women, predominantly around the age of 50 years old. Meningioma is most commonly found in convexity, and meningotheliomatous meningioma is the most common histopathological type.

Abstract

Phyllodes tumor is a breast fibroepithelial lesion that rarely occurred. This type of tumor has tendency to recurre and metastasize. This study aimed to determine the features of phyllodes tumor in Hasan Sadikin General Hospital in period of 2012 to 2016, histopathologically and clinically. Descriptive study with cross sectional design was conducted in Department of Pathological Anatomy, Hasan Sadikin General Hospital, Bandung, from September 2016 to May 2017. Using total sampling, the secondary data are taken from medical records with the diagnosis of phyllodes tumor. From 88 samples taken, the mean age of the tumor occurrence is 45,56 years old and the mean size of tumor diameter is 10,98 cm. Tumor with benign type has the highest prevalence, with 54 cases reported. Mastectomy is the most common procedure performed on this tumor. There are 7 recurred patients and 1 patient with metastasis. As conclusions, phyllodes tumor is a rare tumor. In Hasan Sadikin general hospital, it mostly occurs in women aged 45 years old in the benign type. Mastectomy is often performed as a choice of surgical treatment.

Abstract

Background: Breast cancer is a cancer disease with the highest proportion of new cases and the proportion of deaths it causes is quite high at 6.9%. Cancer patients who use anthracycline-based chemotherapy experience loss of body weight, muscle, body cell mass, distribution of extracellular fluid expansion and reduced intracellular air. This study was to determine the change of the Body Mass index (BMI) and body composition of patients with locally advanced breast cancer (stage IIIA, IIIB and IIIC) who had undergone anthracycline-based chemotherapy. Methods: This anthracycline-based observational analytical study of pre and post chemotherapy was conducted with a cross-sectional approach. Subjects were measured height by microtoise; weight, body composition, daily calorie intake (DCI) and basal metabolic rate (BMR) as measured by Bioelectrical Impendance Analysis (BIA).Results: 47 locally advanced breast cancer patients underwent anthracycline-based chemotherapy. Based on the Wilcoxon statistical test, 6 variables with a 95% confidence level (p<0.05) showed a decrease in the value 5 variables, namely BMI, total body water (TBW), visceral fat, skeletal muscle mass and skeletal bone mass. Meanwhile, body fat showed a p value=0.224. The changes of variable confounding, DCI decrease (p=0.004), but BMR increase not significantly (p=0.795).Conclusion: There is an effect of chemotherapy on nutritional status of BMI, TBW, visceral fat, skeletal muscle mass and bone mass in patients with locally advanced breast cancer who underwent anthracycline-based chemotherapy, which may the result of the calorie intake decreased, but not on body fat
