Abstract

This article describes the tradition practiced by the followers of Qadiriyah wa Naqsabandiyah in Pekanbaru, Riau. By employing a qualitative approach, this article finds that that the tradition of the Tarekat Qadiriyah wa Naqsabandiyah in Pekanbaru, Riau emerged from the tradition (custom) performed at Pondok Pesantren Nurul Huda al-Islami. Through the pesantren, the tarekat tradition is spread gradually in the practice of education and socialization. From the tradition of pesantren education, this tarekat philosophy is then socialized to the surrounding community's environmental traditions. Philosophically, this study also concluded that tarekat is a doctrine that is close to Islamic education. Pesantren as the center of tarekat development becomes 'icon' development of Islamic education based on Sufi character. In the contemporary context, the values of Sufi education are increasingly crucial, especially in responding to the patterns and lifestyles of consumptive ones arising from modernization, capitalism, and globalization

Abstract

After the fall of the New Order, ICMI as an organization of Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals established in the New Order era, which was originally close to the government party (Golkar), scattered to look for a more appropriate political channel. Diverse ideologies and backgrounds resulted in ICMI members establishing and joining different political parties. Although, there are still a number of other ICMI members remaining loyal to the Golkar party. However, the results of the 1999 elections disappointed a number of ICMI members who had joined in a number of these parties. The disappointment implies the birth of the "Central Axis" which is driven by Amien Rais. Therefore, it is true to say that ICMI in the New Order was very important because being a political vehicle turned into an 'association' organization which incidentally after the 1999 election encouraged the birth of the Central Axis.

Abstract

This paper describes the phenomenon of hybrid identity among young urban Muslims in the popular da'wah movement in Yogyakarta. This research uses an ethnographic approach to take a case study of Teras Da'wah. This research argues that today's da'wah movement is oriented towards market Islam or market religion. The consequence of this market Islam is that it gives birth to an unusual da'wah movement, namely the identity of young Muslim hybrids who appreciate various Islamic ideologies. In addition, their hybrid identity also impacts how Teras Da'wah values symbols of popular culture, such as developing an office or da'wah center resembling a modern cafe, using social media, and slang dictions in preaching and using contemporary da'wah themes. It also uses music, films, futsal, and hanging out culture as an instrument of da'wah. This puts da'wah in a form that fits the identity of urban Muslim youths, who are pious and modern.
