Abstract

One of the ways to understand the socio-cultural life of the people can be done through its folklore. In this study, it is aming at descrining how the women images in Wakatobi society through the characterization of Waindho-Indhodhiyu main character.This study used descriptive method by applying crtical feminisms approach. The results of this study indicates that the image of women in Waindho-Indhodhiyu folklore is viewed from the aspect of her self-image known to Waindho-Indhodhiyu as a character of adult women who is considered as aubordinate of man. They are marginalized as weaker than men because of patriarchal culture. While based on its social image, the character of Waindho-Indhodhiyu is a character who has concern and pay attention to her family. Waindho-Indhodhiyu is also a character who always teaches her children about the good values and morals of life. On the other hand, the image of women in Waindho-Indhodhiyu folklore is a character who represents women's resistance to male domination. Keywords: folklore, feminist literary criticism, women

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas peran budaya kalosara dalam perencanaan pembangunan daerah Kabupaten Konawe, Provinsi Sulawesi Tenggara. Penelitian ini dilakukan karena walaupun budaya kalosara masih dihormati, pemahaman tentang nilai dan praktiknya dalam kehidupan masyarakat masih sangat kurang. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan manfaat baik secara teoretis maupun praktis. Penyediaan data dilakukan dengan metode observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis secara deskriptif kualitatif, dengan menggunakantiga alur kegiatan yang terjadi secara bersamaan, yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Perencanaan pembangunan daerah Kabupaten Konawe sangat tepat untuk menerapkan pembangunan berbasis budaya kalosara karena budaya ini mengedepankan mekanisme musyawarah dalam penyelenggaraan kehidupan sosial dan politik. Selain itu, budaya kalosara memiliki banyak kearifan lokal yang sudah menyatu dengan sistem kepercayaan, norma, dan budaya masyarakat Konawe. Oleh karena itu, perencanaan pembangunan Kabupaten Konawedapat mengkaji berbagai aspek budaya kalosara, khususnya yang terkait dengan kepemimpinan, pembangunan daerah, dan hubungan masyarakat dan pemimpinnya. Hal ini sangat penting karena pembangunan akan tidak bernilai apabila pemerintah tidak mengenal masyarakat atau potensi yang tepat untuk pembangunan di daerah tersebut. Pembangunan daerah Kabupaten Konawe berbasis budaya kalosara tentunya memiliki banyak manfaat, diantaranya ciri kedaerahan akan bertahan dan berkembang, akan memperkuat kebijakan-kebijakan dari pemerintah, membangun dan menciptakan keselarasan hidup, dan sektor pendapatan daerah dan roda perekonomian akan berputar lancar dan baik.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the stereotypes and discrimination that occur in the Green Book movie script. The researcher found many utterances as well as actions that refer to stereotypes and discriminatory behavior committed by white people against black people in America. This study used the qualitative method because qualitative is a procedure that produces descriptive data including written and oral words. The results of this study showed that the Green Book movie script contains three types of discrimination and stereotypes. First, Individual Discrimination is presented in unfair treatment by whites against the main black character, Don Shirley. Second, Institutional Discrimination happened in the police institution where the police imprison Don Shirley who did not commit a crime at all, but only because he was black. Third, Structural Discrimination occurred in the form of policies carried out by majority races which have a negative impact on minority races. In the green Book movie script, structural discrimination is presented in a safe travel guide for black people in southern America, the book also contains such as restaurants, hotels, beauty salons, and then medical stores that are safe for black people to visit. This book was published from 1936 to 1976 during the era of segregation in the United States. As the final result of this research, the researcher found the dominant type of discrimination in the Green Book movie script is Individual Discrimination.

Abstract

This research investigated the Avatar movie by James Cameron to show the symbolicexpressions of white supremacy towards Native Americans. The opposition resulted in a crisis of hegemony and in the end, the class subordinate resisted, this is what Gramsci meant as the War of Position. This movie shows that supremacy in the way of hegemony is more successful to the way of domination, but the hegemony and dominance were not successful when the allies carried out the opposition.

Abstract

This study focuses on the analysis of the Portrayal of Geisha in “Memoirs of Geisha” Movie Directed by Rob Marshall. It aimed to study how geisha is portrayed in this Movie as Japanese Culture. In this study, the writer uses the descriptive method, by applying the Multicultural Feminism respective in analyzing this Memoirs of Geisha Movie. Geisha was born from a movement of women who tried to live independently in the Meiji period. Geisha is a profession among Japanese women at that time as one of the best jobs for a woman at that time. This study illustrates how Geisha plays an important role in improving the quality of life for women in Japan. Even so, Geisha has a very bad controversy because of the cultural differences that occur between Japan and western culture. Japanese tradition that seems taboo to be done by common people, makes Geisha as one of the controversial cultures. Despite Geisha have a bad value in the western view, Geisha herself has a firm ideology of culture and themselves.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze “The Kissing Booth movie script” in terms of semantic study. The research question of this study is “How is Affective meaning used in The Kissing Booth Movie Script by Beth Reekles?”. The objective of this study is to describe affective meaning is used in ‘The Kissing Booth’ Movie Script by Beth Reekles. The source of data is taken from the movie script by Beth Reekles. This study uses the descriptive qualitative method. The data are collected by searching and downloading, watching the movie, reading the script, classifying, and coding the data. Based on the analysis the writer finds affective meaning such as positive and negative affective meaning. Positive affective meaning consists of three data was (happy data 1 and 2, flattered data 3) and negative affective meaning consists of 12 data that are (angry data 4, 6, 9, 11, 12, shocked data 8 and 13, disappointed data 7 and 14, unhappy data 10, sad data15). The most dominant implication in the movie script objects is the emotion of negative affective meaning. The use of affective meaning depends on the context of the situation that occurs when the utterances stated.

Abstract

This study is intended to analyze the form of Framing of Covid-19 vaccine new on CNN website based on Discourse Analysis perspective theory of Framing Analysis by Zhondang Pan & Gerald M. Kosicki. The objective of this research is “To describe how are the forms of framing of covid 19 vaccine news on CNN website”. This research used the descriptive qualitative method. The researcher used Zhondang Pan & Gerald M. Kosicki Framing Models to analyze the data. The source of the data in this research was taken from News on CNN Website. The data was collected through reading intensively, identifying and selecting, classifying, describing, and interpreting the data to get a complete conclusion of Framing Covid-19 Vaccine News on CNN Website by Zhondang Pan & Gerald M. Kosicki theory. The researcher analyzes six pieces of data or news from the CNN website. The result showed there are framing the researcher found based on four models of framing Pan & Kosicki namely: Syntactical Structure, Script Structure, Thematical Structure and Rhetorical Structure in six data or news from CNN website.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the ethnography of communication, ethnographic components, and how to explain it using the theory proposed by Dell Hymes. This study discussed the settings/scenes, participants, ends, action sequences, keys, elements, instrumentalities, norms, and genres of the communication summarized in the acronym SPEAKING model in Luca movie dialogue. To make it easy for readers to understand, all the categories mentioned were grouped according to the analysis under study. This ethnographic study focuses on communicative competence in society related to its culture. The researcher used qualitative descriptive research methods to describe and interpret objects according to the current situation. The descriptive method is applied in an integrated manner because in analyzing the data, it is presented in a clearer explanation. The researcher then analyzed the dialogue in the Luca movie by using a descriptive qualitative research method. The finding in this movie is a conversational genre is found which generally becomes the human daily conversation. This movie uses language that is easy for the readers to understand because it uses everyday language whose words can be easily understood. The data found in this study include 141 dialogues based on the variety of topics discussed by the participants. In conclusion, the part of the discussion is that the researcher found some data that included several category elements from the ethnography of communication and then made conclusions from the use of ethnography of communication elements in the research findings section.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the form of news framing of the Delta and Omicronvariants of Covid-19 on the CNN channel on youtube.com based on theperspective theory of Discourse Analysis of Framing Analysis by Zhondang Pan& Gerald M. Kosicki. The data were analyzed by describing and interpreting thedata to answer the research questions of this research. The writer analyzed twonews videos from the CNN channel. The writer found that the Delta andOmicron variants of news framing from Covid-19 on the CNN channel have atendency to similar schemes between the two video news, it is prioritizingcertain aspects developed by journalists. CNN also shows facts, information,statements and opinions of experts, governments, scientists and related parties tosupport the aspects of the news. Everything is explained by the writer in detail inSyntactical Structure, Script Structure, Thematic Structure, and RhetoricalStructure.

Abstract

This study analyzes the signs that exist within the scope of cultural representation in the sausage party movie using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theoretical approach. The purpose of this study is to analyze how culture is represented in the form of signs in the sausage party movie using Charles Sanders Peirce's Semiotic theory approach. The data source is taken from the film Sosis Party. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. Data collection is done by searching and downloading, watching movies, classifying and coding data. based on the analysis the researcher managed to find fifteen signs which were divided into several types of signs including, icon, index, symbol, qualisign, legsign, sinsign, rheme, dicent and argument. Every sign that appears on the characters in this film has a very precise placement and cannot be separated from the rules of the culture that is being represented.
